This story really hits home for me. I think that as a women you are pressured to get the ring so much, that you don’t think about what happens afterward. If you notice in the video, she said she had to grow as an individual too. It was not just him that had grow in this situation. So, for them not to get married, they are now able to grow as individuals and work towards their future together. I have been dating my boyfriend for 12 years now. He is my best friend and the love of my life. Don’t get me wrong, I do want to be engaged down the road, but I rather be financially set first then rushing into it, just to get the ring.

What I would have liked to hear from the guy is the steps that he will take to get himself ready and how much time he needs. It could take a lifetime for him to be comfortable with his finances enough to commit. It's ok for her to want what she wants and not be willing to wait. I think she should walk away. malyikaj i think it’s about the standards of a man. He has to have values. There are men that don’t really know and just want to keep you and that makes for a hard journey. However, a man who is intentionally going after becoming, education of some sort and is in love with you by his intentions is worth a try. My hubby didn’t have all of his ducks in a row. However, he was in love with me, he went to College to take care of me and my future babies, and he knew what he wanted to do. I’ve met guys before that just wanted to marry me bc they wanted a good woman but their lives sucked. It’s discretion and standards on your part bc trust me you will know when he is the one and he will also confirm that belief through his intentions.

I think in this situation it wasn’t that he didn’t want to ever get married to her. He just wanted more time before they got married. She wasn’t happy about that and Steve told her to be patient before throwing him out. He already proposed and everything. That’s different than a guy that doesn’t want marriage at all or doesn’t specifically see himself marrying you. And to be honest, Steve’s advice was similar to what they would tell you during premarital counseling. Marriage isn’t just about a title and ring and a wedding. What’s going to happen beyond “I do” is really important but often ignored by those who are just eager to get down the aisle. The young man wants to get himself together to the point of being the kind of provider and husband he feels he needs to be and he wasn’t there yet. It sounds really selfish but it’s honestly the most mature thing he could do for the woman he loves and sees a future with. Most people don’t realize until it’s too late that love alone isn’t enough to sustain a marriage.

If you got cold feet, stay out of the relationship, assess yourself (goals and dreams), assess the partner objectively (write down pros and cons) and assess the relationship (want children or not, how many, discipline styles, religious beliefs, are they as tidy/messy as you, role expectations, work/life balance, time management, and independence requirements). You can only do this objectively while not being physical with each other (or someone else). If you need someone else do the other person a favour and stay away. He's 27, when will he be ready. I'd suggest leave, if he wants you, he'll remain single and chase you.

Honestly, I don't know their situation, but me and my husband when we met we knew we wanted to be together and get married, but a huge part of that was me telling him and actually holding to my standards of celibacy before marriage. I did not plan on sleeping with him until we got married, and that definitely I believe was a HUGE factor in why it happened under 2 years of dating. A lot of people are saying "oh she doesn't care about money." But HE will feel insecure and not fulfilled as a Man not being able to provide for her. And her next step is to have kids and he isn't at the right place financially for that either so even if they got married then SHE wouldn't feel fulfilled because she wants kids. And this can cause strain on thier relationship and eventually cause them to have resentment for one another because one person is not doing what thier suppose to now I can't get what I need.

It's nice that someone recognizes this. On another video, there was a woman who was going through the same thing, and the man gave the same financial excuse. Steve told her to leave because they were not on the same page. Here, we have a woman that's strong enough to leave, but Steve gave her the exact opposite advice and actually made up the same excuse himself for the boyfriend. Steve is cool, but his advice is inconsistent and sometimes just completely wrong.
