Whether you agree with all the perspectives or not , this was a great interview! When Black people wear European brands, it becomes cool, sexy and interesting! "Luxury" brands are none of those things except overpriced items before black people wear them. Because they're called luxury and most black folks can't afford those brands, they aspire to wear them because they're expensive.

FYI - The reason Steve Stoute is sort of giving a water down comment on the Kanye question is because he was the person persuading Kanye to tweet "You don't have to be a democrat." He was the one arguing with Charlemagne via kanye through their text messages, and he was supporting Ye's opinions. Read the text thread that Kanye posted, the contact name was "SS" aka steve stoute. Plus, Charlamagne confirmed this.

I totally disagree with the way Spotify treats R. Kelly's MUSIC. Keyword : MUSIC. Which is totally different from his personal's life to which they have no business even talking about.
@WillieYams6 жыл бұрын
I hear Steve's points, but these are all private companies who can do as they please at the end of the day; they don't necessarily need to have some policy. Radio stations ban/blackball artists based on personal encounters they didn't like. If you as the consumer have a problem with it, unsubscribe. That's how the marketplace works. I'm personally okay with them picking on Robert "When we say teenager, how young are we talking?" Kelly.
@pjballa916 жыл бұрын
Spotify is a private company with their own policies. I personally don't want platforms making decisions for me and I think they're being inconsistent in who they choose, both those things can be true.

I think using R. Kelly is a bad example because , even though he was never convicted, people SAW what he did! It wasn't one of these "He said/She said" situations. With some of these dudes, it's fairly easy to take a stand against them because there is clear evidence that incriminates them - everyone saw Rihanna's battered face, for example. Things like that don't need a court to make the decision for us.

Stout and Ebro have amazing points. I for one completely agree with what they're saying. Specifically on the case of the Pied Piper: no one is 'rushing to conivct' R Kelly. This is his blowback; a part of what might possibly be his a consequence after DECADES of getting away with what evidence has shown us is a person who preys on woman to some degree.
@davebraves69986 жыл бұрын
People nowadays don't realize how much of a historical moment for hip-hop that was when Mike Tyson beat up Mitch Green in front of Dapper Dan's.. That was one of the most referenced metaphors and punchlines in rap songs for quite a few years after that. It recalled the golden era of hip hop when music mimicked the street culture not the other way around like it is now. Smh! It really was the start of the golden era in hip hop.

Steve sorry there is no " Tanning of America." America BEEN tanned CULTURAL from times immemorial. Blacks have not only built America , but CULTURAL black are America's flavor and leading cultural experiences and expression, again, for centuries. However, this only ( and I don't say only as a marginalization, read my opening to this statement) I say only as a way to say our cultural heritage and influence haven't translated equally in the board rooms of the companies that OWN ( Smdh) our CULTURE. THATS WHERE THE " TANNING," should take place. America BEEN TAN, AMERICAN CORPORATIONS THAT EXPLOIT OUR CULTURE NEEDS " Tanning."

I love.this convo One thing stands out though, anybody's number can be called at anytime it doesnt take a Spotify to make it happen. Spotify is the messenger, the message is people relying on sole platforms for distribution. Facts. You diversify wealth, and distribution and when one leg falls you stand on the others. Businessmen know.this and now artists are becoming business like. But is it too late?
