Say what you want about Frank. He is clearly a terrible person, and no one will ever deny that, but William H Macy plays the part masterfully. Pretty much the whole cast is great, but Macy has to be pointed out.

I think it says something when an actor plays a character who is arguably one of the most despicable characters in any show, and a lead character at that, but still doesn't turn people away from the show. I appreciate well performed villians or in this case unlikable character, antagonist I guess? Like it or not, people love to hate him, and that is thanks to William H Macy.

@@Nate9-9 William H Macy was superb as Frank. And to me its even more impressive, considering the big shoes he had to initially fill. Frank Gallagher is an iconic character that was brought to life with chaotic drunken grace and disgrace by David Threlfall in the UK original version. I never thought that role could be hotwired and effortlessly recreated for a remake, but Macy smashed it and owned it. Plus, when this US version enters its own direction and timeline from its second season onwards, Macy gets a whole new world of life and adventures to give his Frank. And its chaotic and classic.

When I started watching this US version of Shameless, I was fascinated and impressed with how it translated the original UK versions timeline and episodes to Chicago from Manchester. This episode is a brilliant scene by scene update on the UK season 1 episode 2, inwhich Steve (played by James McAvoy) brings an inebriated Frank to France, via the channel tunnel! All the actors in this Shamless are superb and make the characters their own. The US first season brilliantly borrows and bigs up many of the UK season 1s plots, with its own new fleshed out arcs in there. Then from its second season, its a whole new show of its own, going its own timeline and ways. I love love love both versions, but the US one surpassed the Uk one in certain ways.

I don't mind people reacting to old shows that are long over, because it's fun to see people discover certain shows, and fun to discover shows yourself, that you might come to really like/love no matter how old they are, and fun to experience the time they were made in, and many shows have their flaws, and things that maybe wouldn't have been done today or handled differently. Even if you might be late for the party so to speak, and some people might be over it long ago. It's gonna be interesting to see you get to know the characters better.

haha. i'm glad you said what you said at the end. I was so confused when you said you wanted to know more about the mom. I'm like... it's episode 2! of 11 seasons!! reacting is probably not the best way to enjoy a show. i know reactors with weeks between episodes because of their massive rotations and they forget so much episode to episode because they do it all as work. it dissipates tension and often interest. but first season has some good episodes I'll be happy to see when you get to them

Spoiler: At least we end up with Some sympathy for the guy. Hes a horrible, disgusting piece of shit and there are no excuses for his behavior. But when we see how horribly abused he was, couple that with never ending substance abuse and a brain washing relationship(both ways), we get an explanation. He deserved better as a kid. He was doing incredibly well before Monica, especially for a man who had been abused his entire life. He was on the right track and life just fucked him. And he just laid over and let it. Maybe he was tired of fighting. Maybe he just chose to give up. Either way, Frank isnt one dimensional and the writing for him is so good.

I find it intresting that you brought up love languages in regards to Steve. That was never the read I got on him. Money means something different to him than to them and I believe he knows it and uses that. The money isnt a big deal to him so he doesnt think much of getting the bigger gifts to make an impact. Spoilers spoilers spoilers but later behavior confirms he isnt actually thinking of them or accomidating the family/Foina. He goes for obvious presents and generally doesnt stepup in the ways people actually looking to help would. He's a big shallow jestures kind of guy who does things that cost him little but can get him alot. Maybe its just becuase Ive known to many have too much money jerks and done too much research into certain things but from first watch Steve set off red flag after red flag for me.

It's difficult to explain my feelings towards Fiona but I can see that she's a good sister and doing the best that she can with what she was given but some of her behaviors I don't excuse when there's kids in the house and because of her actions this kind of comes back to bite her on the a** and with Debbie and all the other younger kids in the house you can tell that they were truly influenced by their involvement. And honestly I think this way no one has to agree with me but. I see Fiona as a Nymphomaniac she can't stop fucking. You'll see it down the road. I did enjoy this reaction and video truly I do like your opinion as well. Please keep adding onto the series.

The first couple of episodes have the same plot as the Australian version thats why some of the content seems a bit forced but there still fun imo the later seasons differ from the Australian version tho
