As a guitar player, i was always stunned at how well Ralph learned how to imitate the part. And of course it is comedy gold to watch Vai acting as if suddenly he was struggling. LOVE IT, and love your reaction to it!

Hey! Just now seeing this video for the first time. There’s some subtext behind the classical section of the duel. It is an excerpt from a violin concerto by Italian composer Nicolo Paganini. The story was that Paganini had also signed the rights to his soul over to the devil for musical talent, fame and fortune. It was as though Ralph Macchio’s character was summoning Paganini’s spirit to get an edge in the duel. Steve Vai’s character apparently knew the piece at one time as a fellow virtuoso to Paganini and similarly spiritually fated but fell short when challenged with one of his pieces.

Saw Steve Via on the David Lee Roth 'Eat Em and Smile' tour. He played this faster and clean AF. It was incredible. Machio was a good actor but Steve is a great guitar player.

1 of my favorite movies. A loose twist on Mr. Robert Johnson the so called Blue's man that sold his soul at the crossroads in Mississippi. But with out that story we wouldn't have Jazz , Country or Rock n Roll . Rap music would have no beats to steal from. I love blue's music especially Mississippi Delta blue's.

Damn! That last, classically influenced tour de force by Ry Cooder is a real jaw-dropper.

Cooder only played the slide parts. Vai played the neo classical stuff.

I don't know if you know anything about Dicky Betts. But he was a lead guitartist alongside Duane Allman of "The Allman Brothers Band." Both Duane and Dicky were Guitar Wizards! But I don't think Dicky gets enough credit... I'd like to see you give him a listen and see what you think. "Guitar Greats - Jessica - Dicky Betts - 11/12/1984 - Capitol Theatre" and just a Fun Fact: Both Duane's son and Dicky's have a band called "Allman Betts Band" and here's a live performance of them playing and Billy Strings is playing with them "Allman Betts Band (w/ Billy Strings) 8/14/21 - Midnight Rider - Hoxeyville-wellston, MI" I look forward to hearing what you think.. Thanks and have a good night.

For the people wondering Jack Butler sold his soul to be the greatest metal guitar player. But at the end he struggled with the classical guitar playing. thus why he lost.

In other words, Steve beats himself. And actually, they had to reshoot the scene several months later. During the editing process, the director came to the conclusion that Jack Butler’s loss wasn’t big enough. So, Steve had to work on losing harder….
@markallan54842 жыл бұрын
I expected some wicked guitar. Ry Cooder and Steve Vai delivered in spades. What surprised me was how impactful Vai was -- in a brief, non-speaking role. However, I still think Joe Satriani has a slight edge on Steve in their playing.

I love the fact that Eugene had to catch up to Steve the entire battle. Steve lead all the way and Eugene brilliantly held his own. Then the 1 time that Eugene got the lead. Steve couldn't hack it. Nothing beats true talent.
