Steve Winwood started performing in great bands in the 60's. Then after several years, finally became a solo artist, which he couldn't get to sooner because he was stuck in traffic. :)

Loved you since I first heard you on AM radio in 1966 with "Gimme Some Lovin' '" (WLS Chicago - at night we could pick it up all the way down to Meridian, MS). In 1968 I heard "Dear Mr. Fantasy" in stereo on an underground FM station when the family moved to Atlanta, GA. After enlisting in the US Navy in late 1969 I started buying Traffic records at the Navy Exchange. My favorite Traffic was and still is "John Barleycorn Must Die" with "Low Spark of High Heel Boys" coming in at a close second. But that Blind Faith album! Wow!! I have followed you ever since and in my opinion, you have never peaked and then wanned. You have always been at your peak. Thanks for many years of wonderful music.

I listened to WLS at night in northern Virginia when I was in my teens. Also a Buffalo, NY AM station. I thought they were exotic, never have visited either city. In fact, I still haven't, lol.

I think SW is one of the most talented singer, songwriters, arrangers, band leaders, front men, musicians (multi instrument), performers, we've ever been fortunate to experience. Beginning with The Spencer Davis Group in 1963, I was 13. I wore the grooves in my "Gimme Some Lovin" and "I'm a Man" albums. It was the beginnings of 'counter culture' music. Great memories. Thank You Steve! He was 'Stevie' Winwood back then.

Saw Steve winwood open for the Doobie Brothers band the other night in Denver , a fantastic show, well worth seeing them all , I even bought that CD set of Steve winwood live at the show !

To receive those good wishes from the one and only Steve Winwood - what a thrill! A number of people here have commented on the great Strat sound Steve achieves. I remember how my bandmates and I were so knocked out by the guitar opening on "Take This Hurt off Me" on 'Autumn '66'. It's still one of my favourite guitar sounds!

Looks like he's plugged into an old tweed Fender here, it sounds like a Strat should. My favorite was "Mr. Fantasy", great Strat tone on that one, and I'm sure it's Steve, not Dave Mason. Saw photos of Traffic live in the early days, and Steves Strat was plugged into a Selmer amp, next to his organ.

Something like 8 /10 years ago we had purchased tickets to see Winwood and Tom Petty at Red Rocks. We had seen Petty before there with Jackson Browne. Really awesome. So we’re a little late arriving and it’s hammering down rain as we are exiting the highway that eventually leads to the road into the venue and it is apparent that we will definitely not see Winwood and ….. So we turned around and went home in Boulder. 😂

I will go as far as to venture out on a limb here to share a thought that has remained with me for over 40 years, that being I wondered if there may be a remote chance that there might be something positive that has survived from the time of Dave Mason's contributions with Traffic in regards to a future collaboration effort between Dave and Steve. I respect both Dave and Steve very deeply and would look forward to what ever a said collaboration between the two might produce musically speaking .The influence upon the music of Traffic that came from their associations with Jimi is still relevant today and it still exists within both Steve and Dave Mason. I understand that the material featured here was from Steve's Blind Faith period though.
