There was a friend, a close friend, who I think was a singer as well. She got lost in drugs. Steve … was a true friend. He wrote this for her, to reach out. Remind her he was there for her. Remind her who she was. That is what I recall of when I had read up about it. I don’t know what happened to her, if she ended up ok or not. But this song is rich with nostalgia and it always brings me to a happy, carefree time in the 80’s. Steve Winwood is one in a million. He has a genuine warmth and I often feel the air alive with hope and encouragement in his songs. It seems rare and precious in times like these. Thank you, Steve Winwood. You’ll never know how many lives you have encouraged and boosted by your music and lyrics. God bless.
