battlefront cj Taylor is certainly in the HoF conversation. He had many clutch catches for the Niners including the clinching TD from Montana in the SB against the Bengals in Bill Walsh's last game as Head Coach but the biggest omission into the Hall from those glory years has to be Roger Craig.

The 49ers made it look so easy. 10 Pro-Bowlers, Steve Young as league MVP, Dion Sanders as Defensive Player of the Year, Bryant Young Rookie of the Year and of course, Jerry Rice, aka The GOAT. Not only great players, but Mike Shanahan as offensive coordinator, Gary Kubiak as QB coach, Ray Rhodes as defensive coordinator - all future head coaches, plus George Seifert and the legendary Bobb McKittrick.

@@gregoryadkins2213 The 1994 team was an All-Star team. The 92 and 93 teams had bad defenses and no power running game. The 1995 team had no running game at all, and Steve Young was injured four games. The 1996 team barely had a running game, and Steve Young missed several games twice (including the playoffs). The 1997 team featured Jerry Rice being injured all but three quarters or so, and Steve Young being concussed in the first week. The 1998 team had a bad defense and a key injury to running back Garisson Hearst. The 1999 team included Steve Young having a career ending injury in the third game. So THAT is really why he "underachieved."

@@rapid13 You must have missed the part where the 1992 and 1993 49ers defense were ranked 15 out of 28 teams (meaning below the midpoint), and where four Super Bowl teams Joe led were ranked 2, 10 (but 1st in points allowed), 3rd and 4th. After 1994, Steve Young missed multiple games each year with injury, except 1998, where he only missed one... but that team's defense was ranked 23rd. In other words, Young only had one season with comparable talent to what Montana had whilst actually being healthy the entire year: 1994.

@@EliteTeamKiller2.0 I think it's cute when people who weren't there try to use their supposed 20/20 hindsight and lack of understanding of numbers to make a point. SY's Niners went 14-2, 10-6, 13-3, 11-5, 12-4, 13-3, 12-4 from 92 to 98 for 1 SB win. Joe Cool's SB wins came after 13-3, 15-1, 10-6, 14-2 seasons. All you have to do is go through the rosters to see just how false your statement is. How many FA's did Debartolo bring in to surround Young? Stop making excuses for a disappointing Niner QB.

@@rapid13 By the time Steve Young became starter the 49ers lost the core that won the 88 and 89 titles. Montana, Lott, and Craig were gone. The team got old and there wasn't a reliable running back until Ricky Watters came aboard. The Cowboys were younger, faster, and tougher on both sides of the line in 92 and 93. The 49ers did well to draft Bryant Young, Ricky Watters and Dana Stubblefield. I didn't keep track of the free agents the 49ers got in 94 other than Norton and Sanders.

By the time Kane Williamson is finished with playing cricket, it is probable that he will be New Zealand's greatest batsman. Even Martin Crowe endorsed that view. But he may also finish as one of the game's most loved global figures. Williamson is ambidextrous, bats right-handed in the top order across formats, and has become a pillar of the New Zealand side since he made his debut in 2010. Williamson was born into a sporting family in Tauranga, the largest city in New Zealand's Bay of Plenty region. His father had played Under-17 cricket for Northern Districts, his mother was a representative basketball player, and his sisters played volleyball at age-group level. Williamson took to cricket and it grew beyond a hobby quite quickly. He was modest about his skills, too, - "Everyone is gifted, I guess, but you get some that seem exceptionally so. I'm not one of them," - yet Williamson was billed to make it since he was 14. He scored a century on Test debut at the age of 20, and at 24 years and 151 days he was the youngest New Zealand batsman to 3000 Test runs- younger than Don Bradman too.

I’m not a Niners fan or anything, but man it really surprises me how Steve is never really mentioned in the all time greatest quarterbacks discussion. I remember growing up in the 90s as a Packer fan and watching this guy running and throwing all over the place putting up sick numbers with record qb ratings. Watching him here reminds me of how smooth a passer he was. That lefty delivery off the play action was a thing of beauty. I know he had a shortened career but there was a solid stretch where Steve was killing it.

Absolutely right. His footwork was perfect and the way hed gently flick that ball and put perfect touch on it. He wasn't a flame thrower and I remember when Favre would tease him because Steve could barely throw the ball 50 yards during QB skills competition. But clearly he didnt need to, Steve could drop dimes wherever he wanted. Steve was coached really well in the USFL by Sid Gilman, who created the west coast offense will Walsh. Hes the one who perfected Steves footwork and timing, the west coast offense is all about footwork and timing, to the exact second.

Couple of things to note: 1) This 49ers secondary was STACKED with Eric Davis, Deion Sanders, Merton Hanks, and Tim McDonald! Tootsie Rolls and the Chicken Dance were abundant! 2) Living through the 49ers dynasty in the Bay Area feels similar to the GS Warriors championship runs with a ton of general, casual fans around the country. 3) Why is George Sefiert wearing a heavy-ass Starter jacket in 76 degree Miami weather? 4) You can see the heavy influence of slants and boot-action plays in the Shanahan family with Mike Shanahan as the 49ers OC in 94 all the way to his son's, Kyle, offense here in SF in 2018. Roger Craig and Ricky Watters were the precursors to Devonta Freeman, Tevin Coleman, Dion Lewis, Todd Gurley, and Melvin Gordon just to name a few.

He's in the HOF and considered an All-Time great. So I don't think his career is underrated. Was he as good as Montana, probably not, but just by a hair. If he's underrated at all it's because he was only a starter on this one Super Bowl team. Had the 1990 Niners held on against the Giants, Young would have started that game.

Did you notice how every QB the 49ers plugged in did well? Bono, Grbac. How did Young look in TB? He was great but he was also playing on one of the greatest teams ever and it was a team that was already rolling when he took over as starter. He didn’t have to take a 4-12 or 2-14 team and win. I’m not trying to trash Young, he was great but he’s in the damn HOF lol. He’s not “underrated” at all.

Ricky Watters was a great RB. He doesn't get the credit he deserves. Seven seasons with over 1,000 yards rushing in only 9 + seasons. 78 rushing TD's and 10,643 career rushing yards in only 144 games. He also has 4,248 yards receiving and 13 receiving TD's. There are guys in the HOF that don't have numbers even close to that. 5 time pro bowl selection and Super Bowl Champion. Ricky deserves way more credit than he gets!

Thurman Thomas doesn't fumble on the 3rd play of the 2nd half(he had over 80 total yards up to point, you know he would've continued to get the ball),the Bills continue to wear down the Dallas defense and score more points and they win that Super Bowl.

Great moment for Young. Now here's a bit of counterfactual history to think about: If the Chargers had faced the Cowboys I think it might've been a slightly different game though as we saw here I think the bright lights got in the Chargers' collective eyes. The thing is, the Chargers were better fitted to take on the Cowboys as their defense was better suited to key in on Emmitt Smith and their offense could move the ball against Dallas. At least it might've been more competitive.
