Diksmuide Level Crossing

Wednesday June 26 2024 at 8.50. The 6.52 Antwerpen-Centraal to De Panne (9.08) train. (All times on this channel are UK times - 9.50 Belgium time). Diksmuide is a busy small town with its station and level crossing near its centre and close to a crossroads. Traffic queues build up and there is concern that vehicles will stop on the crossing. Hence the flashing brown traffic light rather than the worn yellow boxes we have here. This is the 17th crossing on the line from De Panne. Note there is never a rush to move as soon as the barriers rise and college lads seem to go home mid-morning. Everything you see was reduced to rubble in WW1 and 25,000 German soldiers who died failing to capture the town are buried here. If it's of interest, to get here at that time I left home at 3.45 am.
