Back in around 1965 when I was about 10, my grandfather rescued a fox pup we named Sneaky. She was a part of the family for a few years, but was still rather wild and only trusted my grampa and me. God I wish I had some photos. I clearly remember sitting on a reclining chair and Sneaky standing on my head with perfect balance. This video brought back flood of memories. Thank you!

How did your grandfather rescue that Fox? Was it's mother dead, was it attacked by a bigger predator? What exactly did your grandfather do that made what he did a rescue? I am curious as to what the circumstances were.

Friend of mine in Florida has a pet fox, they had him neutered last year and now it's like one of the family. They live on a 150 acre ranch and the fox can come and go as he pleases but he is a home body. He was rescued from a pack of dogs running wild in that area as a kit, had a broken back leg and my friend and his family nursed him back to health, no wild animal rahab center would take him at that time so they kept him. When he was able to be released, he refused to leave so their Vet said the best thing to do for him is keep him. His name is "Redd"

I just read two wonderful stories about foxes. I have this feeling that in 3-4-5 decades foxes will be domesticated enough and considered to be a pet just like a dog and cat. I know there are plenty of people have them as pet already but i think it'll take a lot of years and careful breeding to get them lose their wild/untamed side. At this point they're not making the best pets yet unless you can provide them with their own territory instead of letting them tear your house apart lol 😃

I live near a highway overpass, we found a homeless man one winter trying to set fire to some stolen lawn chairs to keep warm. We felt bad for him so we purchased some Food and Blankets for him, gave him a prepaid cell phone and access to wifi once a day for several hours and some cash. He would come by randomly thanking us; the first time was in a sleeping bag, the next time he was in a Uber and looking very healthy. The last time he came by he drove up in a nice pickup truck. I asked him, what caused him to get his life together? He said it was our kindness, and the $200 we gave him that night. He was able to buy some quality heroine, cutting agents and began his Narco Empire he said it was entirely due to us. Bless his soul.

When I was a kid, we had a wild fox come to our backyard and we started to leave him out food. Over time, He became somewhat like a dog and was able to recognise us, allowing for pats after x amount of months. He was free to come and go as he pleased. It was a beautiful experience to have wild creature come to trust a human and I carried the energy of the encounters with me into adulthood. I don’t understand fox hunting. It is a disgustingly cruel “sport.”

@Waldo Rojas gotta say I have doubts, fox attacks while not unheard of are extremely rare and I cant find any record of anyone being killed by a fox. When I looked up fox attacks I found a report of a four month old baby being attacked but not taken or killed. And even if this is true it is ridiculous to hold a grudge against a species because of it. They are predatory animals and as horrible as it is for us they have no reason to think killing a human is any worse than a rabbit, you cant hold a grudge against another species that is absurd and childish, and your personal circumstances, while sad dont make it any less of a disgusting and cruel act.

@@readmelancholystrumpetmaster Everyone is well aware of that. That doesn’t take away from the fact that Foxes have similar features and behavioural characteristics to cats. Like the cat, the fox has sensitive whiskers and spines on its tongue. It walks on its toes, which accounts for its elegant, cat-like tread. And foxes are the only member of the dog family that can climb trees-gray foxes have claws that allow them to climb and descend vertical trees quickly. Foxes have an optical structure similar to cats-foxes have vertical pupils which narrow to slits and a reflective membrane at the back of their eye. Both adaptation enable superior day and night vision. Foxes have partially retractable claws-these claws can be extended to help them climb trees (grey foxes, at least) or retracted to pad quietly and stealthily. A fox’s whiskers are long and as sensitive as a cats. Foxes hunt like cats-instead of hunting like their endurance hunter cousins, foxes are stealth hunters (foxes stalk and pounce like cats and sometimes play with their prey). Foxes hunt the same prey as cats. Foxes hunt in a solitary manner like cats (as opposed to the group hunting methods of other canids). Foxes kill their prey in a cat-like manner-most canids grab and shake their prey, but foxes use their long, slender (again, cat-like) canines to bite to kill. A fox’s method of posturing (fur raised, back arched, stiff-legged prance, and batting pounce) is similar to a cat’s method. In it, there’s actually mention of whether foxes as pets are more like felines or canines: Foxes, Bowler says, are more like cats than dogs: they can be affectionate but only on their own terms. “When Rosie wants to be fussed, she’ll run up, ears down, tail wagging. You can’t ignore her, you’ve got to go over there and give her a fuss. Other times I go in and think ‘I’ll give her a fuss’ and she doesn’t want to know.”

So glad this just popped up on my feed. Gorgeous 🦊. When I lived in London, I remember once going to get a glass of water in the middle of the night. Kitchen window looked out over a communal lawn. There was a young fox playing with a cat. And I mean playing. They were sneaking up on each other, biting, chasing each other, pouncing on each other, it was a complete joy to watch. This video made me remember that moment, thank you! And the money shot at the end where the fox just effortlessly pegs it over the fence, fantastic!

Yes. I have experienced that. I lived next to a railway line. I knew foxes were living over the embankment near the tracks. I was mesmerized for a few minutes. Its all I spoke about that day.

I was sitting in my backyard with a box of Kentucky fried chicken. As I took a piece out of the box a fox showed up and stood about a 100 feet away staring at me. As I was eating I gently talked to him and told him that I had all that chicken and wasn't planing on trapping and eating him and that, if he wanted some he had to come close and get it. So, after a few minutes he did dare come close and I gave him a thigh. He took it about 5, 6 feet away ans started munching on it. After he was done I asked him if he wanted another piece. He came close for another piece and took the piece out of my hand and this time he took off with it. I reckon it was a she and had a youngin to feed. So she took the piece to her cub or cubs. It was a very pleasing experience.

Think about this Fred. She has imprinted on this human, and she knows he will feed her, why shouldn't trust other humans instead of being wary? Of course not all wild animals will approach humans, but this human has enticed this fox to approach him, and to connect with him as a food source. Now if this were a domesticated fox I might understand this humans connection, but this is a WILD FOX! Why are so many people on this post so enamored with a human feeding and acclimating itself to humans? This isn't what nature has set up for wild animals. Nature provides for a natural balance where the strong survive, and the weak are gleaned form the gene pool, that is just the way it is. I love watching wild animals, I have been an avid bird watcher for over 50 years, but I don't entice birds to fly into my hands and try to make pets out of them, that isn't what nature wants for these wild animals. Fred you have a clear thought in your head more then what I can say about the others who watch a video like this and feel all warm and fuzzy inside. This man does more harm to this fox then any good he thinks he is doing. What if this fox approaches another human who doesn't see fox's as cute, and adorable? What if this fox goes to where other humans are that have chickens, or rabbits, do the people on this post who think this is cute and adorable willing to accept the fact that this fox could get shot by anther human because they think it's coming after it's chickens, or rabbits? No Fred this is not what Nature dictates, IT IS WRONG!

@Olivia 757 Really you can't figure that one out? Unless we humans are the cause of wildlife distress such as habitat destruction, destroying their natural food source, etc etc etc humans don't need to interfere with the natural order of what nature dictates for wildlife. Nature can be cruel but that is it's way of keeping a balance. Have you not ever read about the problem with wild hares in Australia? How about the Cane toads introduced to eat a particular invasive beetle. What happens when people ignorantly over feed pigeons in every major city through out the world, a pigeon population explosion, have you never seen that with your own eyes? There is no reason what so ever to feed wild animals, unless it is determined by the DNR that certain animals need protection, but then that is the responsibility of the DNR, not private citizens. We need to leave WILD LIFE........WILD, we don't need to feed them, or care for them. Some animals die in the wild, and that is usually the weak. Humans have a nasty habit of projecting human emotions upon wild life........WRONG!! Now if you cannot wrap your head around that, then you more then likely just don't get it. Nothing personal, but it really gets old having to try and logically explain this to so many people who just don't get it! Please refer to this link, it is very informative. They're fucking vicious. I've lost countless animals to their bloodthirst. They'll just kill anything smaller than them for sport. They don't even eat half the stuff they kill. But yer, i'm glad you saw something fluffy and cute on youtube so have made a sweeping judgement.

I had Jack for less than a year before I lost him. I would call him and he would come running over to me. I have pictures of him sitting in the front yard waiting for me to come home from work. If one of us was cutting the lawn he would sit on the patio and watch us like a little kid. One day he was scared by the dog across the street and was running out to the woods I called him and he ran up behind me and sat down by my side as if I was going to protect him from the big bad dog and he was right to think that because I would have.. To make a friend with a wild animal like this is true trust from them and it's an amazing feeling one I hope to feel again soon.

@@PA-Tammy Did I say you fed the fox? You misinterpreted my total point. It's not just about feeding wild animals, it's also about interacting with them. If I am somewhere and a wild animal approaches me, and keeps getting closer, I don't think to myself, "Oh how cute the wild animal enjoys my presence". No I scare them off because they should be afraid of humans as much as possible because some humans do nasty things to wild animals. I would think you would understand that? Wild animals should be watched from afar unless you are in a car like in Yellowstone National Park and Elk, Bison etc etc etc walk past your vehicle, but when we are out in the open and they approach you, you need to retreat, and keep your distance. It's more then feeding wild animals that many of you just don't want to be told because it offends you, or triggers you. My points aren't on here to make friends with you and others, it's to raise your consciousness level. Now you can do that or choose to have your feelings hurt by someone speaking the truth. It's all up to you!!

One kind, reliable human being making a huge difference in a wild animal's life. Helping it to stay healthy, strong and adaptable. Better that then raiding garbage cans, killing people's pets and dodging traffic to stay alive. Please don't forget clean water. Urban areas can be short on clean water for wild creatures...

A fox is definitely beautiful. Cool? Not sure what you mean by that. But I'm not sure where this "cat in a dog's body" cliché comes from, because fox behaviour and personality is nothing like a cat - definitely more like a dog; the bottom line is it behaves like a fox.

Right. Get everyone to stop eating animals period(unless they require a feeding tube and special food to survive). Marley It is certainly more healthy for us, the animals, and our environment! Thank you for sharing and I hope you achieve your goals. I am 100% plant based (vegan) for almost four years now and I have never been healthier. I healed my body and got rid of my hypothyroidism, hormone imbalance, IBS, and tendonitis. I’ve always had a strong connection to animals ever since I was a child-despite growing up in a family of hunters. This lifestyle is one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. My partner and I both went plant based together and now his parents have decided to go 100% plant based too. They have been vegan for a year now. His dad recently got blood work done and the doctor was amazed by the results and said the results were like he was a young guy in his early 20s (his dad is 65 and hasn’t always been healthy). So happy to know that we can possibly keep our parents around a bit longer! ☺️ Not sure why I shared, it's just nice to see others who are passionate about it. Much love!

@@kevinwelsh7490 1. "it's a wild animal." It matters not if the animal is wild, habituated, or domestic for the principle or scientific theory, if you prefer, to apply. Animals not only have different dispositions, characteristics and personality traits, they like all of us, are capable of having good days and bad days. 2 "it seems you impulsively" Actually, nothing impulsive at all on my part, as the truth is exactly the opposite of your erroneous, and dare I say impulsive, conjecture and supposition. My statement is beyond a hypothesis, it is substantiated by principle, repeatable, empirical data, fact sets that affirm my proffer 3. "project human traits upon it." The word that eluded you is anthropomorphism, and although common, I am sure the phycology of which is far beyond your grasp. 4. There was nothing affirmational or declarative about my original statement whatsoever as I simply alluded to the general proposition that it "seems to" have a sweet disposition. As I previously stated, a simple proffer, although capable of being affirmed by supporting data. Therefor, your mockery notwithstanding, due to your lack of reading comprehension and cognizant understanding, a complete and utter failure to stay in a group, intellectually, your assertion really isn't relative, much less cogent. By my estimation, your mind is not unlike your KZbin page...vacuous and entirely unencumbered, completely devoid and uninhabited by pesky data and or content. This is the point, at which, I would normally insert a facetious yet pithy little parting idiom, but nah, sorry, you wouldn't get it anyway. You don't see what I just did there, do you? I am afraid that what would be painfully obvious to any reader of average intelligence would be sure to cruise blindly right over your head like a ballistic missile armed with an obtusity warhead in the middle of a moonless fog laden October night. Don't try to make yourself out to be more knowledgeable than you actually are...it's unbecoming. Obviously, a First World sagacious thinker, you are not. My synopsis...you are 0 for 4. I win.
