We had this same thing happen! Our accountant for our business, was also writing checks and using a signature stamp for my husband, and the accountant and his wife, were taking money from our business, and we figured this out in two months, because we were making deposits, but the accountant kept avoiding us when we questioned what was going on, and we had to have a police officer to go to their office ( which they will do, it's called to "keep the peace." When we showed up, it freaked them out somewhat, and we were able to get all of our files, checks, signature stamp, they had been writing themselves checks and cashing them, because they had my husbands signature stamp! The reason we went unannounced with a police officer, was because they wouldn't give us our files and all, which we had tried to do, and they were trying to hide what they had been doing, but we got everything back. They hadn't done our taxes for that one quarter that they had our fines, and we contacted the IRS, and after going there and meeting someone who was very helpful and sweet to help us! We did an "offer and compromise" and it took us a year to resolve things, to catch up on the taxes the account was suppose to be paying from our business account. We actually could have charged the accountant with forgery and embezzlement, but we were just trying to work as much as possible and contact all our business associations, several of whom, we also owed money to, because again, the accountant hadn't been paying people! It was horrible, decided to just put all of our energy into going forward and although we did get everything paid, it was really hard on our children and us, but live and learn, don't ever trust someone with a signature stamp, especially!

I was leaving on my honeymoon and no time to review my tax return. My accountant said" I will file and send in the money and you can send me the check". Three years later I find out that the taxes were filed but the money never sent...$11,000 plus interest and penalty fell in my lap. I guess the only good note was that my accountant spent 3 years in a Federal Prison in Montgomery Alabama. I wasn't the only one he scammed.

I loved this cause it gave me hope if I stay disciplined and focused and keep God first I can make it out of this financial mess. Thanks Steve for telling your story. I think you just changed my life. I just lost my fiance who was a Pastor here in Detroit and I've been depressed and just lost. However seeing this listening to God and being honest about by journey...I can turn it around. Thanks and blessings to you and your wife Marjorie.

Building wealth involves developing good habits like regularly putting money away in intervals for solid investments. Financial management is a crucial topic that most tend to shy away from, and ends up haunting them in the near future. Putting our time and effort in activities and investments that will yield a profitable return in the future is what we should be aiming for. Success depends on the actions or steps you take to achieve it. "You're not going to remember those expensive shoes you bought ten years ago, but you will remember every single morning when you look at your bank account that extra 0 in there. I promise, that's going to be way more fun to look at everyday", I pray that anyone who reads this will be successful in life

Steve Harvey attorney's were awful if they couldn't come to a better agreement with the IRS. You can escalate your tax situation to the Commissioner's office at any time. If he had records of his accountant's neglect that's all he had to turn in with an affidavit. The IRS is always about "intent." His actions or lack of action was civil not criminal. His attorney's were just trying to milk him for more money to make his situation sound worse than what it really was. I help clients every month with worse scenarios than Steve's with the IRS. Remember there's always a paper trail, the canceled checks he wrote would've cleared him from the IRS agents assuming that he was deliberately being a tax evader. Never run from the IRS, communicating with them works best.
@spaniardsrmoors68172 жыл бұрын
Yeah sounded fishy to me why the IRS would not investigate and find out who the real crooks were and give him a break. Miss 1 payment go to jail?? Looks like everyone took advantage of his naivete'...that's if he's telling the complete story, heard some bad things about him too.

I thought...he was paying the taxes but the accountant was pocketing the money...why didn't he sue the accountants office since the guy is dead..atleast they have all the records...I need some explanation....
@officeenglishwithjammy2 жыл бұрын
I guess since the guy is dead, there’s no way to prove that Steve wasn’t involved in the tax evasion for real, and it could destroy his reputation if the news broke (like how it’s kinda destroying Shakira’s reputation). Cuz how could anyone trust that he was completely innocent you know. And someone still has to pay the tax money at the end.
