I love this project! It’s very interesting to see how you guys live when you aren’t racing. It certainly makes you seem more “normal”. As far as the truck goes, they are only original once. That truck has coming on 50 years of history to its credit in that configuration. Preserving some of that, even temporarily is awesome. Make it safe, and get out there and enjoy it. You can always hang some soulless tin on it later, let that thing live on for the time being.

Definitely like the idea of changing to a short box might be too many rust holes to keep the patina. I say a blown big block chevy for power! Great video Stevie keep em coming!
@cliffbeckwith40192 жыл бұрын
Welcome to my world, im a bodyman, I must say your taking on quite a project, PB Blaster will be your best friend, and since all the front end is rusty, put an 80s front end sheet metal it looks way better. One other thing, aftermarket sheet metal fits like shit prepare to make it fit!
@Blain57002 жыл бұрын
Big block burnout truck. At this stage replace all the inner fender wells, suspension, brakes, put a fuel cell in the bed, all the bones. Leave the body panels like they are and replace them as they fall off. Then if you want to change it up in the future depending on how the truck takes the abuse, you've already done half the work. ✌✌
@RonniePTexan2 жыл бұрын
Invest in a case of Liquid Wrench and use a few cans now just spraying the hell out of any and all bolts that may be coming loose for this build. Wheels need to be widened steel wheels. Then use rally hubcaps and beauty rings for a badass almost-stock look but they'll be 10-12" wide, at least in the back. Use 8" wide wheels for the front. You'll want it to be stock enough that Ronnie would recognize and approve, but wide enough to put some serious rubber on there. Only replace the body panels that will fall off. Otherwise keep the high speed/light weight/rusty body panels. The truck is literally losing weight as we speak! POR-15 (or POR 30?) can be put over most rusty stuff and it'll make it stop rusting. Primer black. Flat black. That's the only color you need. If you MUST add an accent color- primer grey flames in the front. Engine: Either a 427 LS or 540 Big Block Chevy and a nice fat Pro Charger. If you want to get seriously badass: Zoomies. Zoomies with an exaust cutout valve on all 8, so you can flip a switch and have a normal exaust one minute, and then have flame spitting zoomies the next. If you can think of anything cooler than that, I wanna hear it. Nitrous: Yes. I know I already said Pro Charger, but nitrous is a given. The zoomies need flames. The truck needs power. Nitrous is the answer to every question. Even if it's just a little tiny 150 HP shot, or you hit it with 500+ HP, nitrous is always the answer.

I definitely vote to do a short bed conversion, you can still keep the patina if you want. The right person can cut out the rust and replace with fresh metal then blend it back in keeping the patina. Just look at what was done to David Freiburger’s “Disgustang” . Hot Rod Ranch cut just the rust and put in new metal and I think they did a great job hiding it. That truck actually looks pretty solid from the video but that’s coming from someone in the rust belt where it would of probably been a pile of dust right now.
@billlevassiur58912 жыл бұрын
Get a new short bed, all of your rust there will be eliminated in that area. Replacement / aftermarket parts are readily available.

Lots of us have old trucks. Either our dads or other family members or like me my first vehicle was a truck that I still have. Regardless of brand or model getting these older trucks back on the road is a lot cooler than these powder puff trucks they all build today. Depending on what your doing to the suspension leave that truck long bed. Just put a driver TWO TONE paint job on it and get it back out there and enjoy it!!

Making a street/strip brawler is always fun esp with a 871 blower lol. There is a whole C10 scene out there that can help you source parts I.e. Dinos Chevy Only or C10 talk. No need to box the frame either. Your body guys can handle the rust repair, bring the existing paint to life and then color match to that. This thing would be a wicked even as a street cruiser with rust repair and original small block
@frankier30752 жыл бұрын
Also David freiburger and Mike Finnegan might be a good source of info on parts since they both have C10 trucks
@BillStraub3032 жыл бұрын
I was one of the ones voting for making it a driver but keeping the rusty old look. Now after seeing how all the panels look I'm changing my vote to replace the panels and paint it. Holley just started producing replacement body panels for those trucks and they should be stocking them so might as well do it. I feel like building it and coming back later is not a good approach. As busy as you guys always are, you won't likely get back to it. Just build it right once and be done and driving. Look forward to watching no matter the direction you take. Also, got an idea for a t-shirt from this video, a picture of you with a confused "What" look on your face and Phil next to you laughing like he was when you said there was probably refrigerant in there!
