Hi Steve. Yet again you have read my mind... Here in my shed, I have an old multi-meter bought back in the 70's and it has a temp reading facility that I have never used because I had no probe! I have never known where to get one or what it needs. After watching your video I can see that you refer to it as a 'K' type and low and behold on my meter it mentions a 'K' type on the input socket for the probe! I followed your links and can see that the probe plugs do match the type on my meter... Ta--Da... you have given my 50 year old meter a new life and a reason for me to build a firebox. Thanks Steve, yet again.

Hi Steve. Firstly just to say I've been following you videos on the Ml7 upgrades, been very helpful. My ML7 is now set up for basic work, new 1/2hp motor, cross slide & put new lead screws & resettable dials & mounting blocks. I just need to make shines to get my cutters up to centre. I have 2 questions for you. 1. Oil drip feeder fibre washers. I have had trouble getting the large washers for the reservoirs. I did find general 31mm one on ebay but they still leak. Any advice that would help welcome. There not bad but would like better. 2. Your K type 1311. I bought this some time ago for my gas forge. I agree with you on how accurate this is, fantastic on all my tests. However, my ceramic probe when exposed to flame shouts off. So I'm doing something wrong. I'm thinking put a 40mm length of box section steel in the bottom to work like an oven. It will take up space. Was it a gas forge you fitted to?? If so how you fit it? Do you think the box section would work. Again any advice welcome. Stay safe from this COVID19. Regards Hugo.

Steve, for melting aluminum, can you put these probes into the melted metal to get a direct reading? Or will that spoil the probe? Thank you for the videos.

Hi Glenn, It says on the probe specification that they have a range of -50C to + 1200C so they should be fine. I hope to test these out at some point. Regards Steve

Great video Steve i have just built a 2 burner gas forge and this will be just the job i was thinking the same as you for using the forge for tempering 01. If it doesn't work ill probably build an oven and use a PID Controller with a ceramic kiln probe

Hi Peter Thanks, That's a good idea I think I will make a small oven as well if I cannot control the temperature easily in the forge. Regards Steve

I've just realised I did ask you 1 of these questions B4. But an update would be great.

Steve have you fitted this yet to your forge? I bought this same metre with the same ceramic probe. My test like yours was excellent. However, my limited knowledge of how to use it on my gas home made forge wasn't good. I just tired it at the mouth of the forge and once it got to about 220'C it shut off. I think that was because to much probe including the electrical connection were exposed to close to heat & I need to bore a hole to insert the probe tip only. Haven't got around to it yet. I live in N. Ireland (UK) so would love to hear from you to see what results you get. My forge is 100x75 mm solid fire brick, tough as nails to cut.

Hi Hugo. I haven't got around to it yet as I have several projects on the go. I hope to get back to it soon though as I want to make some more Ray Mears type knives. It sounds like you have a nice set up. I was going to drill a hole in the side of mine about half way up maybe pointing down at an angle. Regards Steve

@@SteveJordan thank Steve. Yes I have a wood work shop from when I was professional in the trade. I retired over a year back from community & youth work as health challenged me so now it's all fun & I run some workshops for folks. I make knives & have been training in blacksmithing so I can add a new flair to my wood work. Take a wee look at my website to see my varied interests or KZbin channel which is fun for me. www.beavertooth.co.uk. Keep in touch I would loved to see your finished projects. I subscribed to your channel so should get notification.

I don’t like how it shuts down in several minutes and has to be ( rebooted ) by pushing buttons,I’d gladly pay $300 for a good type K that had an analog needle like a grill thermometer
