If the pyramid housing is a hard plastic, you could just make your silicone mold strait in it (without the liner obviously) Spray it with mold release the same way you did. Getting it out is as simple as breaking the seal on the sides with a lolly stick and working it out. If you do end up having to get a whole new mold, try that with the old one. That way you don't have anything to worry about if "life happens" and something goes sideways.

Hey Steve, this is exactly what I have planned for my pyramid. I wondered why I didn't see others use this technic before. I've seen others use a plastic bottle to form the hollow part for the lights. But I think making the insert would be a lot easier and more effective. Thank you for this video. Now I know just exactly how I'm going to do this. Great minds think alike!🌺

You can also pour each side at a time by putting up a small dam and make it hollow. It does make leaves and flowers easier, but takes FOREVER. This would make it much much quicker. Thanks and great work as always!💞

I have a few jewelry box molds which use a lot of resin in the top, resulting in solid, heavy covers. I am trying to work out a way to create a half sphere hollow in them so that there is more storage space and less weight and loss of resin. I might try a rubber ball or ping pong ball on a skewer after I have sprayed it with mold release.

Here in Canada 🇨🇦 we say "popsicle stick". I have adopted "lolly stick" from watching British crafters cuz I love the term! My granddaughter was helping me clean up my workshop, and asked where the popsicle sticks go, I told her the "lolly sticks" so in this drawer. She laughed so hard at this term!

Hiya Steve. Great idea but u could have saved urself a lot of time and just make the silicone pyramid directly in the bottom of the mold stand as the silicone wouldn't stick to it as it's not silicone. U have the demolding spray already, so u could just spray that into the pyramid stand and use that. Then u are guaranteed to get a perfect mold. All the best, Diane, UK x

Thanks so much for showing how to make the inserts so that they match the shape of the molds!!!! I've made several, but never made them to shape. Mine are just randomly shaped as what ever I had on hand at the time. Some of them are squares from leftover when I make various molds. It also seams that you could make a mold cast from the same thing by pouring silicone over the outside...... A little more work but worth it if it's something you will be making more of. Stay safe and stay creative👍👍🔔🔔🦋🦋

This is lovely! At first I was a little disappointed when I saw the bubbles on the inside, but the next moment I thought it is very pretty the way it is. Especially with the light, it's really a beautiful piece of art. But Steve, you could simply use the plastic as a mold for the silicone and safe a lot of time, too. Another way to save a lot of resin I use is to put lots of glass nuggets in the middle. 😉

I know you can get lights you can sit them on but they tend to be more expensive. Hi Steve, very nice video. And a brilliant idea. Saves a lot of money. And, what is also cool to do, is later fill the open space with a different color of resin. So you get a pyramid in a pyramid. Or it's maybe nice to put mirrors on the inside. So many ideas... haha And, for the insert. I bet there's a market for that. Because a lot of people are using the same large molds 😊 Anyway, nice video and a very good tip!

Hi Steve was wondering if you looked at the measuring cup for liquids used to make the silicon wouldn't the amount it shows be the same as what you got by doing all the different measurements? Just curious if it would or would not be as accurate. It seems after you filled the form with silicon if any silicone is left just subtract that from the amount you started with.

I wasn't able to find out what exactly watercolor ink is. I found water based products, these can't be used with resin unfortunately. Two questions; 1. Could you use a UV curing resin in a thin layer to cover the walls of the interior pyramid? 2. If you make a layered pyramid or anything layered in a mould, can you remove each layer and fix anything to make sure it is a smooth surface for the next layer?
@sengasengana
@sengasengana Жыл бұрын
You shouldn't take out the layers since you break the vacuum and the next layer of resin will inevitably spill on the sides of the first layers. Guess how I know. ;) As for yout first question, I'm not sure if I got it right. You surely can, but why would you do that?
