Great video again, yes, definitely a shame about the light fastness, like you said, most products in resin will eventually bleach, same as many resins may also yellow with sun. However, each piece is handmade art and needs to be cared for with good aftercare advice the same as a painting, for example, you wouldn't hang a painting in direct sunlight. I say, treat them like a Gizmo, don't get wet, don't feed after midnight and no direct sunlight!😂 You don't want your Gizmo to become a Gremlin! 😂. Great advice again. A friendly tip, Piñata skins more than other alcohol inks as it's a thicker pigment, less is best with that range, and also, thin the white down 50/50 with some Isopropanol for a much lighter effect. Again, great advice Steve 😊😊🙌

The first few minutes I saw this I thought, "Holy cow, that's too much ink and too much swirling for the ink dropping effects, Steve! But I'm interested to see what it gives you." And then I listened and waited. I absolutely love how you are so good at teaching 'this is why I do this and this is how you can change this for different things.' And again and again, resin is about playing and experimenting to find what you like and what you want! That's why it's so addicting and fun! You're awesome!

Such fun ideas. I appreciate your honesty. As a test during May I used alcohol inks in a few resin pcs. I placed pcs on a window shelf that receives 2-3hrs of sunshine on cloudless days, a few others that receive indirect sunlight. Each and every piece faded, some more than others. Of course jewelry that is worn will fade much less. Since I am creating affordable costume jewelry, platters and coasters I do not expect them to maintain their depth of color forever. For me the easy access to the unique designs is totally worth it. (I tend to avoid pastels. More intense ink colors seem to retain their appeal, in my opinion.)

For those curious: the term for the color fading is called light fastness rating! If it is lightfast, no fade. Not lightfast, yes fade.

If I might suggest...keep half of these new pieces in a box in the dark and the other half on a window sill or near a window for 4-6 months. I did a painting with the inks and left it in a darkish room for months. Since I only did it on card-stock, I was not too w0rried about ruining it, I set in face on in a window so the sun could beat on it. It faded by more than half in less than a month. Had it been hanging on a wall, not near a window, I expect it would have lasted somewhat longer. Oh and I had sprayed it with Kamar Varnish and then a clear acrylic...did not help.

@galady86323 жыл бұрын
Radiating Resins by Ali ... I am not a resin pro. I am only a hobbyist that manages to sell some of my pcs to a few shops and individuals. This is my trial-&-error method. I add a bit of white powdered pigment to a few drops of white alcohol ink or just alcohol that I want to sink. (I mix it in a plastic or silicone spoon, less waste.) During my trial-&-error process I placed my molds on clear glass (I used Dollar Tree picture frames glass inserts), so I could carefully lift them and examine the bottom of the molds. I made notes re successes and failures. There's probably much simpler methods. I look forward to reading about how others address similar white ink issues.
@AGDinCA3 жыл бұрын
It could have something to do with the resin you are using. If it is too thick, the white won't sink. So, make sure you drop in your white before the resin gets too hot or before it starts to thicken or cure.
