I would always add the mica or glitter to part A and blend it first, then add in part B. It seemed to make it faster to get it ready to pour.
@the.resintist
@the.resintist Жыл бұрын
I'd add mica to part B first as it's the lowest viscosity so mixes better plus after adding part A it makes mixing more efficient 😉👌🫶👌😉 but poly resin is great for quick forms but In general it's harder to work with and has nasty fumes plus once fully set is still toxic stuff
@elenavaccaro339

Always wondered if that was feasible. And I would have thought that would make being sure the parts were mixed completely.
@craftydemon529
@craftydemon529 Жыл бұрын
@@the.resintist I also measure part B first for that reason because I'm more likely to over pour 😅

That’s what I do is to pre mix the additive. I don’t care what I add it to A or B. I haven’t noticed a difference either way

Thanks for another awesome video. I love that you show legitimate issues and interactions working with all the various products that people can benefit from. Your experiments and lessons and product feedback is tops! With so many highly edited un-moldings and such out there I am very grateful for you!

I want to thank you for everything I have learned from you in the past nine months I had stage 3 triple negative breast cancer and decided I needed to occupy my brain and I did this by learning. I am now 2 days cancer FREE!! With learning about resins and so many things I am glad to hear you when you have your respirator on. My oncologist DID approve me to work with resin but only with the PPE and respirator. I would like to become a member of your channel but cancer hits your pocket as well. I thank you for your videoes and will be doing more little projects and then graduate to bigger projects. Happy New Year from Hanover township, Pennsylvania, USA

Are you concerned about the ethical concerns surrounding mica? Most mica is acquired through child labor and a lot of the children get really sick and injured from the mines so I always make sure that my mica is ethically sourced but you linked to the Let's Resin mica and I can't find anything on their website about their mica being ethically sourced. I get my mica from TKB Trading if anyone was wondering, they are very adamant about their mica being ethically sourced

👍Hey Steve! Great video! I've been wanting to make some divets/coasters for hot pots and serving dishes to sit on but I know the epoxy will go soft from the heat. Would the PU hold up to that kind of heat?

I have never use polyurethane resin before. You said it doesn't deform like epoxy resin. Do you know if it is stronger than epoxy resin (less brittle)? Love your videos 😊.
@fairyspunfibers9098
@fairyspunfibers9098 Жыл бұрын
@shaelynhurst5298 I haven't used it (yet!) but heard on more than one channel that it is stronger than most epoxies, BUT can shatter if bashed enough on a hard surface, whereas epoxy resin doesn't usually do that. But then...so does wood. 😊

Steve can you put UV resin over the top? Thinking of adding tattoos. Thanks for another great video!💜
@craftydemon529
@craftydemon529 Жыл бұрын
If you'll accept an answer from a non-Steve, you can, I'd personally recommend lightly sanding the area you want to coat first, to help it stick better (preferably before the tattoos but I'm not sure if that would affect how the tattoos adheres) maybe also wipe with alcohol first because PU resin can feel slightly oily after curing, or at least the one I use does

Someone needs to invent gummy resin, that cures to the consistency of gummy candy. Or maybe it’s just in your ratio? Regardless, I want to see a bunch of molds used with gummy resin. I mean big and little, fishes, Swedish fishes, teddy bears, real bears, dragons, and everything in between.

Hi from state side.... I have a chess set mold from TEMU and it's great. It comes with the board n only one set of the pieces. You make an entire set then the other. Easy to get out of the molds, n as you say ... "lil suiggy wiggy" gets the resin in all the nooks n crannies. Have fun with the poly resin!!😊😎 luv your channels🤩
@the.resintist
@the.resintist Жыл бұрын
I wouldn't recommend this poly resin to anyone unless they are making replica parts for models etc. And its highly toxic and hard to work with it plus you'll need more dyes,powders etc . Avoid at all costs. Not to mention the food safe and lack of even after 30 days of curing. Also the skin reactions from fumes ley alone skin contact 😉👌 poly resin 👎👎👎👎👎👎🙆🙅🙅🙅🙅🙅🤦🙋

I think my favorites are the heart and the strawberry and cherry phone stand If I'm doing just a single color, I usually mix it into either in part A or part B before mixing the two parts together to give me a little more working time. Though I don't always remember to do that, haha. But adding the pigment into the cups before mixing when doing multiple colors at once is a great idea Also dirty pours with PU resin are fun too since the colors don't mix as much

Can you mix pigment in one part before you add the 2nd part and increase working time a bit that way? Seems like mixing color in after you've mixed both parts is anxiety-producing.
@craftydemon529

Yes you can, that's how I prefer to do it. Just be careful because it might cause measurements to be slightly off when you're done so just keep that in mind. But that's my preferred method when mixing a single color

Definitely need to snag some of this resin. Just made a phone stand and it’s crazy hot here. Was fine unmolding but it started bending. Had to use a heat gun to straighten it out. Learned my lesson and shut the blinds. ❤ the strawberry look. Would look awesome with bright red strawberries in the phone case. Really ❤ the mica powder one. Gorgeous. Hahaha. I see you did the fruit. Great minds think alike.

You can use micro powders you just have to brush them on the instead of in with the polyurethane and it's much easier to mix your pregnant paste just put it in park B and mix it before you put in part A you should try the you'll be amazed at the color turns out like it's supposed to pretty much

I do that too, though I find that it's sometimes harder to avoid spilling on the sides And I also sometimes have issues with it separating from the rest of the piece. Maybe it's because it's a different resin from the rest but I also had a piece where the whole thing was PU and the two layers separated 😅
