Intersting with the glowing headers from lack of timing. I know nothing about tuning big engines like these. My forte is smaller engines in quads and dirtbikes. Ive seen a few quads where the titanium header would glow purple after idling for a bit and that was due to running lean, usually people adding a full exhuast but not realizing they needed to jet it up a bit to compensate. Now im wanting to figure out timing on these smaller engines. They have advanced timing plates where the mounting screw holes are slotted where you can advance it up to 10 degrees or so.

Dont be afraid to take full advantage of them coldgates. You can use the cold gates for boost control early in the run to help bleed some power off instead of pulling so much timing to keep it hooked up. Then you can close them to bring the power in as fast as possible when you need it.
@georgethoman8215 күн бұрын
Should call the Camaro Valkyries after the Norse Goddess!
@jdoggsgarage449414 күн бұрын
Bleeding boost off the cold side is not a good way to do it. Exhaust back pressure is higher for the same boost level when doing that. What should really be done is to use a small drive by wire throttle body, those are much better suited to cold side surge control than those e-gates. Those gates are super slow by comparison. None of this is new, people have been doing this sort of thing forever in racing classes where turbo sizes are limited to something too small.
@Shademax427314 күн бұрын
I agree Cold gate boost control is not a good strategy for max power. However it does work well on these 5000hp cars to bleed off power early in the run to keep the car from spinning. Then you can close them to bring power in faster compared to a waste gate setup. May even be able to use it to lower boost for traction control if necessary. The pneumatic cold gates seem to be have better response than the the e gates too.
@jdoggsgarage449413 күн бұрын
@@Shademax4273 I can see that... however a DBW throttle body is still a far better (read faster) choice.
