Coming back here to let anyone know this absolute Australian legend just the other day saved 4 lives, kids/early teens that were swept out to the sea from the beach. Awarded a commendation for brave conduct by Australian Government. 21 years later and this guy is still as humble as it comes and again that just solidifies that no matter what, he's a bloody winner

Deserved victory. Had a game plan and saw it through. When he won (unexpectedly) people were apparently screaming at him, "you don't deserve it". Despite all the skaters falling before their goal, Bradley... the man himself... had been a consistent performer for years, even being a part of Australia's first bronze medal winners, and even was a world champion at one stage... As Steve Bradbury had said, this was his validation.
@SSkurai

Funny people even say that when in the replay, the so called "favourite to win" was the one causing everyone's collapse. Skates right to block then sticks arm out to the left again blocking, not surprised everyone fell over.

My understanding was that the Korean guy formally protested, and the judges are bound by the rules to at least hear the protest out even if it's blatantly obvious that Bradbury had won fair and square. I also seem to recall that they had to wait for the disqualification decisions to be finalised before they could declare the silver and bronze winners.

True and that's all part of the competition. i.e. staying within the rules and avoiding disasters. The more you push the limits, break rules and take risks, the higher the probability of a catastrophic outcome or success, compared to staying out of trouble. It can go either way. Bradbury was lucky and his strategy defied the odds of success, when cruising in the back row, which would normally not result in victory. However as mentioned, that doesn't discount the years of hard work and sacrifice to get to an international final of an elite sport and being positioned to take advantage of unexpected situations which can arise, particularly in ice skating.

Why should he throw it out? He won fair and square according to the rules of the race. Let's not forget that this was his FOURTH Olympics when most skaters never even make the Olympic team once, plus he'd already won an Olympic bronze at the previous Games, and he'd also won the Worlds' previously as well. He was NOT some kid off the local high school team, he was a world class athlete. To top it off, he'd already fought his way back from serious injury not once but twice; once where an opponent's blade slashed his femoral artery and he almost bled to death on the ice, and then again when he smashed into a rink wall, literally broke his neck, and spent seven months in a halo. As he said after the medal ceremony "I'm not accepting this medal for the race, I'm accepting it for everything I went through that led up to this moment." Dude is an absolute fucking legend and no one deserved that medal more.
