Steven Curtis Chapman - (Peace on Earth) A Desperate Benediction

Words can’t describe the sadness that I feel as I watch the events currently unfolding in our country. I’m so heavy hearted at the brokenness and division that we are witnessing and experiencing in our world today, and I am processing in the way most natural to me as a singer-songwriter: with a song. I actually started writing this song about a year ago with my brilliant songwriter friend Tom Douglas, but have been waiting for the right time to share it, and I feel like now is that time. Now more than ever before, it seems like the soul of our world (& our nation) is aching, longing and desperate for PEACE. Whoever & wherever we are, I’m convinced that at our core we are all brothers and sisters crying out for the same thing, what the bible calls “shalom”... a Hebrew word meaning peace, harmony, wholeness, completeness. And ultimately, I believe that true peace...the peace that transcends all understanding and guards our hearts and minds...comes from the Prince of peace, Jesus Christ. So it is with a heavy yet hopeful heart that I share this new song with you...as a prayer...a cry...a Desperate Benediction for all of us....praying for peace, and praying that it starts with me, with you, with each of us.

Sir.. your songs had played a very big part of my faith journey. 2 things that had always struck me about your music are how genuine, and at times raw it was, and how appropriate to the times and circumstances they were written. I watch the news on our side of the Pacific, my heart breaks for your country. Because in many ways to me as an Asian, your nation, as a "nation under God" had symbolised what a Christian nation could be. Or so I had thought. Then the very real fractures start to show and from this end of the Pacific, it looks like America is coming apart at it's seams. And I start to realise that great nations rise and fall, but God in His sovereignty reigns over all, and that His Gospel had survived every major empire. None of us can claim to know what the future holds. But God is on the Throne. Praying that our Father's Shalom will rest on and lead His people. Godbless you and your family.

I also believe God did not call his people to sit and do nothing until they are slaves or persecuted. I seem to recall several times he called his people to war in order to stop immorality and evil from prevailing. So to keep it short I’ll say that yes regardless of how poorly we fail I believe God still wins. I DO NOT, however, believe he wants us to stand idly by and let this mass perversion and blatant attack on morality continue under the guise of, ‘God’s got this’. That attitude is in and of itself a lie from hell that is largely the reason we face our current situation. I hope this answers your question.

@@noahsmith3654 That may appear true to us, but it is not true of God - He is both one and three at the same time. For one thing, God is outside the mathematical ways of this universe and therefore is not subject to it, for He created it. Secondly, if you read Scripture closely, there is a clear depiction of God being both one and three (at the same time), especially in the New Testament. If you throw that out, you are throwing out true Christianity. Christian doctrine states that the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are all of "the very same substance." It is like having a lump of clay and making three things out the the same lump (each one made with ALL the clay, no splitting of the lump allowed). All three are made from the exact same clay as the others. To be clear, all three are not the exact same being as the other two, there are clear distinctions between the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Furthermore, God was not made, much less from a lump of clay! As for how this is possible, CS Lewis offers a nice, mathematical idea. We live in 3D space, where we have a cube that is 6 distinct squares, yet a single solid. He then suggests that it may be possible for a higher dimension where a single thing could be three distinct things at the same time, as with the Trinity. Because God is in infinite-D space, as He is infinite, He would certainly exist in that higher dimension. Even if this idea isn't true (it does certainly seem plausible), we must not discredit the Trinity because we are using something He created (mathematics) to analyze Him when He must be outside it, for He created it.
