He was 29 here & only played in one more CL campaign. Talk about a player sacrificing his career for the club he loves.

Gerrard was playing with pain injections in his groin injury through this CL campaign. This was the start of his injury ridden years of 2010-2012 and loss of his athletic prime. His running style and gait changed and he would take a lot less power shots from outside not to hurt his groin. Really sad we couldn't take care of him properly in this time to extend his career. Completely shattered his body because the team was so poor when he didn't play.

That's true. He must've been destroyed. His gait and powerful running style was 100 % different from 2012 onwards. The documentary on amazon explains it in detail. His all action powerhouse style cost him and all those battles with viera Keane essien etc. Lampard and Scholes were a lot smarter in their style. Lampard, for example used makelele essential and obi mikel to do the dirty work and hard yards and played predominantly as an attacker. Gerrard was one of a kind though. An absolute tank
