Feels like they've been proliferating the youtube content, which is absolutely fantastic. But I really do like the big budget, epic adventure stuff the flagship show brings.

The few trappers I know have the deepest understanding and appreciation of animals, and are deeply compassionate people. I trapped all through high school 1978-1982. Muskrats were $8 and Raccoons were $25. Big money back then. The local buyers would buy them whole because so many trappers were ruining the hides. As I type this out my old wicker trappers basket still full of what s left of my traps is about 4 feet away from where I sit. Great memories. Thanks.

Steve's observation on wearing fur vs. wearing a Cowboy hat made from fur was spot on, and it educated me that I fell into the "Trap" (pun intended) of not paying attention to the fact that they're the same natural material.

Thanks Steve. You bring back memories of my childhood trapping experiences. The early morning dark hikes through the woods and fields before catching the bus to school. I remember the “ night noises “ you heard that along the way that were scary but you gradually got used to. The windy morning with the trees swaying and creaking. And most of all the smells of the fall trapping season. All of these experiences just “maned you up”. They were the stepping stones of courage. After childhood I became a USAF fighter pilot and the night noises came back in a single seat fighter. I’ve since retired and having traveled the world, I still think about my trapping days. I recently purchased 145 acres in Eastern Tennessee that borders 200,000 acres of TWRA land. I wanted my grandkids to have a woods to grow up in and a place I can teach them outdoor skills and “man them Up”

I've been water trapping for like 4 years. Just started dry ground trapping for k9s. And my goodness are they smart friggin critters holy moly. This is why I love trapping with my kids. Teaching them to be comfortable being uncomfortable. Teaching them to read sign. Teaching them to use a knife and an axe and all the rest. It's been awesome.

Finally, a show about a real outdoorsman sport. I love deer hunting too, but trapping is like Christmas everyday , it is a blast. It’s worth all the effort of skinning , fleshing, and tanning, and it keeps you outdoors all winter. There’s nothing better than putting steel in the ground. Hello from West Virginia.

Always loved the story telling of Steve rinella about his childhood and how it built the person he is today. I always look at life that way when im in outdoors hunting or fishing. People always ask me why do I wake up so early, why do I go out when it’s freezing! Because it builds toughness and i learn something everytime I’m out in nature.

I started trapping before I ever learned anything about trapping. That is by sending squirrel tails in to Mepps to be made in to lures. The first actual trapping I did was in 1978 at 15 years [legal age in southern WV at the time] trapping muskrats. By the third season, I had made enough to by traps and started trapping, racoon, grey and red fox, and bobcats. Back then fur was still fairly good money and I trapped until 1984 when I went in the Army. By the time I got out of the service, the prices had dropped and no-one trapped. I tried a couple of time to start trapping again but areas that I could where few and far between so I never did but I still think of those cold snowy days checking the line and long evenings skinning, cleaning and stretching the hides. Great video Steve. Thanks for the memories.

There should be a Meateater Experiences with Steve and Seth trapping. Maybe not as luxurious and comfortable as fishing in the gulf but I would be in 100%. Love the cold and snow and really want to learn to trap from people with experience. I also live in the northeast so they could get some of those more desirable beaver furs here. Just a thought 😂

If Steve and Seth started offering one of those master classes where they showed and taught the nuances of trapping in detail - I'm talking about this is how you set the common traps, this is how you choose where to place your set, etc etc - I'd spend good money on that. Obviously there's no substitute for time in the field but not everybody has family or friends that hunt, much less trap, to show them the ropes.
