I dont hate her, but I dont like her either. My biggest problem with her is that she never seems to think before she acts, or how her actions will affect the people around her. She never consider how the diamonds will react to her supossed demise, or that by giving birth to Steven, she was going to create not a human been, but something that the universe has never seen, lefting Greg to raising Steven on his own, and the Cristal Gems without a leader, lefting also behing all her secrets. I think that the Pink Diamond revelation should have happened earlier, in order to get the audience used at this fact, rather than living a lie for most of the series.

Pink got bored of her and lied to her so she could leave her behind.

I’ve always thought that the diamonds created spinel for Pink to say “you like being a child so we’re gonna give you a gem just like you”. Over time it looks sorta like Pink is maturing a bit because she wasn’t playing anymore, that’s when Blue and Yellow announced that Pink was getting her own colony. Pink may not have known but in a way she kinda saved Spinel’s life, Spinel could have either been killed in the war because Spinel lacks any fighting ability or she would most likely be turned, on the off chance of White finding her.

I know your comment was written 7 months ago, but I need to say this. You can’t say that.. It’s like you’re comparing their pain??? 1. Blue Diamond lost her sister, she did many bad stuff to Pink but still loved her. 2.Lapis was stuck in a mirror for thousands of years, she was asked questions about Crystal Gems - which she knew nothing about. She couldn’t get out. 3. Pearl.. Hmm. Pearl was in love with PD/ Rose. She would do anything and i mean ANYTHING to make her happy. She became a rebel only Because of Rose. She got poofed cuz of Rose multiple times. She’d even get shattered if it meant Rose would survive and be happy. Pearl was free, yet still decided to “sacrifice” herself for Rose. Again, she was FREE, yet she still kept risking her life. Then Rose just chose a singing guy over her. Over her Pearl. They’ve spent thousands of years together. Pearl was ALWAYS along side her. Then, Rose got pregnant with Greg and gave birth to Steven. Now Pearl had to take care of her love’s baby she had with a guy she chose over her and Pearl also had to learn to love the baby. Volleyball.. Yes, she got badly hurt by PD, poor thing. She seemed to like PD aswell... Now even Steven is dealing with his trauma which is understandable, he was dealing with too much in such a young age. He was basically a child psychologist to the gems. This was no one’s fault, though. They were traumatized by the loss of Rose and he was basically her but not really.. So yeah, I don’t think Spinel’s backstory was the worst. They’ve all been through a lot, by that I mean A LOT.

I just love how they made Rose's character, she was the exact opposite of Steven yet they're still the same. Rose do things because of her burst of emotions, and she never looks back on those people she left. Steven do things because of the sudden burst of emotion, but he never forgets the people who helped him and he always includes them. Out of every character I have ever seen, Spinel has the worst life. Even if Lapis was stuck in the mirror for longer than her (she wasn't, but if she was), Spinel still had it worse. Sarah gave such an amazing performance in this. I’m honestly such a simp for her. You can really hear the emotions conveyed and that she gave a lot of heart into it. I think she said in an interview that when she first heard this song, it made her cry. When Sarah is singing the last drift, you can hear the note being held longer but towards the end of the note, it becomes angrier and like a growl. Such a nice touch when spinel is regaining her memories and going to her form with the mascara streaks. The Crewniverse couldn’t have chosen a better voice actress for Spinel 💖

Something I just recently realized in this song is that she starts most of the lyrics with the word ‘happily’ and sometimes ‘happy’. My point is that she now recognizes that she was blinded from her optimism and joy, therefore doesn’t see Pink for all those years. This song and "other friends" really hits hard, and I kinda like the double sided representation. Anyone who has been left behind by those they considered friends or family can sympathize with the anger, the sadness, and the self-hatred it brings along - but in other friends, you can see that they truly had no idea that Spinel was all alone. I like that detail because it shows that a lot of the time, it was a mistake or an accident - Steven genuinely didn't know. I've seen many times, friends will leave you behind by pure accident. They forgot to invite you properly, or they genuinely had too much on their mind. They still hurt you - but it wasn't intentional. Steven and the crystals gems, minus pearl never knew about Spinel - they were Roses "other friends" and they too believed they were the only friends - they didn't mean to leave her behind. It's a complicated situation with stories on both sides.

Here’s why this cuts deep for me: Everyone always acts like you were made for someone and someone else was made for you, like soul mates or best friends. People also want you to be there for them through thick and thin no matter what. Spinel was made for Pink and she thought that she was doing the right thing, staying loyal to her even when Spinel doubted herself. But in the end she still got abandoned even though she did everything right. It scares me because how are you supposed to know when to be there for someone and when to give up? Also, how are you supposed to make sure that you never become like Pink? Never let anyone care about you more than you care about them?
