And here we see the negative side of Pearls hyper focus personality. We saw it briefly in the form of Opal. As she forgot the objective of the mission in favour of saving Steven.

Probably because she fused with amethyst, she probably had her most negative personality traits amplified to fit amethyst's needs, but all of her negative traits aren't that bad.

I just really love Steven Universe I've re-watched it so many times, the episodes are so short so every scene is meaningful, every second of the show they are developing characters or planting plot seeds for later. I'm glad you're enjoying this ride.

Both episodes showed how passion can overwhelm sense even in the most grounded personalities. Greg of course would normally never try to deceive his son, but years of being sidelined from about the only thing he cares about in this world drove him to it when the opportunity arose. Pearl would never think of harming Steven, but the chance to return to space and re-live some of the happy days was too much of a temptation. I consider Space Race to be one of SU's best combinations of story and musical scoring. The warning alarm on Pearl's spacecraft appears to have been lifted from the second season of the 1970s Anglo-American scifi series Space: 1999.

I utterly hate how they played of Greg in that episode because it’s just enjoyable and makes Greg just seem like an annoying character and it will be like that for the rest of the show.
