On Stevonnie's height: you guys have seen the previous fusions. Mass is increased--and sometimes eyes and limbs. And Steven being half-human and close with Connie allows him to fuse with her effortlessly into Stevonnie.

Something to note in The Test is the first signs of Steven's Atlas Syndrome coming through. Atlas Syndrome is the excessive sensitivity and concern for the emotional well-being of others, to the extent that the sufferer gets Anxiety and Depression when they're NOT helping people. It typically manifests when children have to take far too many responsibilities at a young age and for Steven, it's set up through the ENTIRE show before becoming truly problematic in the Epilogue season. It starts with Steven putting the gems' feelings above his own in episode 38... but see how many YOU guys can spot throughout the show :P

OH YES!!! Stevonnie!!!! I feel that everyone was as surprised as Garnet! As for the test, I understand why Garnet, Amethyst, and Pearl rigged it to build up Steven’s confidence; good intentions so Steven obviously wouldn’t kill himself, and I respect how he pretended to thank them to make them feel better too, but I still understand why some were pissed to find out the entire obstacle course wasn’t truly pushing him.

Stevonnie is an amazing addition to the story, but I actually was really moved by The Test as well. Seeing Steven growing in maturity himself, and understanding that the other gems might not be perfect, but they all love him unconditionally and want what's best for him was so touching. Made me tear up a bit on my first watch tbh.

the test episode is such a turning point for stevens character, which i know is easy to miss when you're first watching it. its the first time he shows his maturity, and while its seen as a kind, mature thing for him to do, we see how it affects him later. realizing that the all powerful beings that take care of him, the ADULTS in his life actually dont know what they're doing- its something every kid goes through once we realize our parents didnt actually know what they were doing. its bittersweet to see, especially when you've seen the whole show. love the SU reactions, cant wait for the next one!!

I love SU so much and part of what's amazing about it is how much it changes and grows on the rewatch. The first time through The Test is just kind of a sweet character growth episode for Steven and you think ah look how he's grown. But once you've seen the whole series and rewatch it feels more like the last time that Steven is really a kid and it's kind of heartbreaking.

@@Argonaute355 To be fair, that info wasn't revealed in the show itself. They teamed up with Dove, to do a series of body positivity PSAs. One of them shows Stevonnie's social media profile, which states both. The PSAs are obviously non-cannon, but it gave them the opportunity to reveal that info, since they couldn't really address it in the show. Also, another small bit of info about Stevonnie. One of the things that gets combined in the fusion is their ages. They're both over 10, making Stevonnie in their 20s.

One of the things about the Test is that there's moments in all three puzzle rooms where Steven would have been seriously hurt if it was real but he didn't notice. You guys picked up on the pendulum going through him, but he would've also been hit by the boulder and there was a moment when one of the fires flared up as he jumped over it.

The Test episode is great, it shows us how unprepared the gems are to take care of and train Steven, but that at least they are trying their best, but always worried that Steven will feel and being good, so this time he ends up doing it for them, it's so cute and beautiful, who needed the test the most in the end was themselves.

Probably my favorite part of this is how as soon as they fuse first thing they do is ask themselves (as in both Steven and Connie to each other) if they're alright. Obviously Steven is excited, he would absolutely go show the gens, but we as an audience don't know Connie enough to tell what her take would be. Same when they start feeling lonely. Also the question is extra important when we figure out later how fusions are an allegory for relationships as a whole. Can't go into details for spoiler reasons, but there's a few damn good examples.

@@valentinkambushev4968 Yeah it's a little strange. But I attribute that to a mixture of two factors. The main one is that, unlike genocidal dictators, I'd say most people know, or at least know of, a smug annoying creep like Kevin, which just makes it more relatable for people watching. The second reason is that it's just a cartoon. And also people like cool character designs, which villains (except Kevin) tend to have. Kevin just dresses like a posh dork who thinks he's better than everyone because his dad is successful, despite the fact that he himself has no talent or skills to speak of. But maybe I'm just overthinking things about a very minor character in the series.

Most of the time I find his annoying/weird qualities endearing, at least when he's a jerk it feels more like a kid who has no idea he's being annoying. *Most of the time* at least. There's his... Bloodstone episode.. But I try to ignore about that one. He's at least better than Lars in the early seasons, when Lars is a dick it isn't as endearing or unaware feeling as when Ronaldo does it.

@@scrunglee I think you are right on the money here! A lot of people know someone like him and someone like Ronaldo. Everyone hates the creep like that, especially those who have had to deal with them before. I have known a few people similar to Ronaldo, like many other people have. I feel like how people think of him overall depends on what they think of the person they know and equate him to in real life, at least some what. Now people may still dislike certain actions he does or similar things, but real life has a bigger effect. Not many people know someone who comes even close to the diamonds. This also works with Bluebird, as many people know and hate the annoying boss and feel bad for Topaz.

Btw, fusion (as you probably have already found out in later videos) fusion is a way that gems share intimacy…depending on the gem it can be platonic or for some gems it can be a form of “making love”. It’s a very special and intimate thing they share. That’s why the episode with lapis and jasper rubbed me the wrong way cause jasper pretty much forced lapis to fuse (kinda touching on the topic of SA/grape.) just a fyi. Steven universe is a very deep show and touches on alot of topics concerning love, gender, and intimacy, and political things as well. This show is an all time favorite of mine.

The episode where he gets tested I think shows how much steven has grown up to this point in the series. Episode one steven WOULD have yelled and been upset. Very childlike. Not that it wasnt justified. But I think at this point hes matured and seen how much the gems try to make steven feel included and supported. While hes hurt he knows they did it with good intentions. He recognizes that and doesnt want to get THEM to get depressed about their situation either. So he takes the L and is the most mature in the room. Not because he has to or that the gems are incompetent...I feel hes just such an empathetic person and can see their trying and cares more about their happiness right now than his complaints.

I love the test because it shows the dicotomy between Steven's interpretation and reality. Steven thinks the gems made it easy because they didn't believe in him. But the gems made it SAFE thinking he was so good he wouldn't find out. AND they modeled it after the temple from "Serious Steven" where he did very well.

This show is still really good at setting up ideas and later expanding on them/their possibilities. Things that other shows might've shrugged off and just explained as pure "magic" with no reason behind it. Warp Tour letting us see a bit more on how warping works with the in-between space, The temple being some non euclidean space controlled by the gems during this test. Then the potential of fusion getting revealed more and more. Some great worldbuilding, even if they take their time explaining the details! Happy that you guys are getting more into it as it goes. I just patiently wait for the S1 finale...

I wouldn't say they were patronizing him. These are beings that don't do human things, they don't have children, but they're trying to raise a HUMAN child. They have no idea what to do. Because he's half-human, half-gem, it's so hard for non-humans that don't have children to properly raise a kid. Neither Steven's dad not the gems have a clue on how to go about raising him because he's the only human-gem to ever exist. I think it often gets forgotten these gems just....poof into existence. They have no childhood, no parents, nothing at all like humans. In Steven's point of view, he's trying to please the gems as best as he can, most kids his age do focus on getting the approval of their guardians. Yet he sees them as coddling or overprotective to the point he can't grow. He's scared of disappointing them, and that's been repeated up to this point how much he wants to hear their approval. In the gem's views, they just want what's best for him. They don't want to see his confidence fall, his self-esteem shatter, they want him to thrive! They want him to be happy and know he'll be okay. Yes, they miss his mother, she meant a lot to them, and it becomes so hard to separate Rose from Steven because of the nature of gems and fusion. It's gotta be mind-fucky for them to raise this kid with their leader's gem in his body. But both have no form of navigation on such territory. Which, in my opinion, makes the familial relationship so much more interesting and gives one something to think about.

Stevonnie is stronger than Steven. Fusions are the combined strength of their parts. Although they aren't as strong as a two gem fusion, they will get stronger as Connie and Steven train. And cross gem fusions choose their names. I think you guys asked that question on the patron video. It looks like you guys watch this on KZbin ? HBO max has the whole series plus the movie and Steven Universe future on it. It might be easier to watch the episodes their in order if you guys aren't already.

A thing a about fusions in Steven Universe, each fusion have a meaning to each gem that are fusing, not all fusions happens for a good relationship, or even represent a relationship to some gems, some fusions happens just for times of need or danger, so don't mind when some people come and say that fusions are all s#x between gems, because that may' can be applied to some gems, but not ALL.
