While I understand the Rose/Pink bash, you basically get Rose's story in reverse. From a loving future to be mother, to a sorta dismissive but understanding partner for Greg, to a leader and savior of a rebel group, to a war hero/criminal, to someone just interested in the wildlife on earth, to a secret keeper, to a colonizer, to a brat and tantrum thrower, to just an empty diamond that only threw parties for entertainment. No one really points out that by the birth of Steven she had all of her character development.

That's why I like to separate her character in two eras. Rose era and Pink Diamond era. Rose was the person she became and grew up to be from all she saw and learned. Pink was a bitch but she also had her good points as well, cause even as awful as she was, she could've just continued to be a diamond. But she left her position and planned everything to become Rose to try and mend her mistakes. Sure she didn't do an amazingly job but she at the very least tried her best. She even gave up her physical form to give birth to Steven, that shows just how much she grow from pink to Rose. At least that's how I see

I was about the say the same thing. Everybody loves a villain to hero story and that's what she did. Imagine if Vegeta's story was told this way to Trunks. Your father was a hero who protected the Earth and loved his family, your father was indifferent of the Earth and was absent from the family, your father hated the Earth and wanted to blow it up, your father conquered planets and ate their inhabitants. Both Rose and Vegeta started in a position to destroy the Earth and ended loving it. Difference is we got to watch Vegeta and didn't get to watch Rose. I'd argue Rose even started as a better person since she didn't understand what they were doing and as soon as she did she fought to stop it.

She was perfectly human, she made mistakes, learned and changed with time, and she was also made to complete the other diamonds, being childishly as the opposite of white diamond, while yellow and blue balanced both, thats why she was always playing, throwing tantrums and acting selfish before earth, she was just a child with unlimited powers, but once she got mature on earth, the whole empire started to crumble apart, the diamonds are just a metaphor to Sigmund Freud's psychoanalytic theory, pink is the ID, blue and yellow are the ego, and white is the superego

Rose is probably one of the best representations of an abused child making bad decisions that reflect on said abuse. It also shows how she wants to completely ignore and remove the problem fast instead of confronting it because it didn’t work when she tried to reason with the other diamonds.

She wasn't really "abused" as much as "neglected" (she was in fact very treasured by the other diamonds, so much that she was treated as a child and was over-sheltered wich ultimatly lead to her being very immature).I think all of her actions were more in line to that of a child trying (and failling) to prove herself as an adult : she left Spinel like a child leave their blankie because they want people to think they're mature, she trew tantrums like a child(and even damaging their "toys" (a.k.a her first pearl) in her anger),didn't think about the consequences of their actions (like how she didn't think about how her sublings would react to her fake death) and hide all the problem she couldn't fix (like bubbleling bismuth because she couldn't explain why she didn't want any gem (more precisly any diamond) shaterred while she had "shattered" a diamond herself). To sum up, she was basicaly a big child with way too much power and freedom.

It's difficult for me to accept the contention that Pink Diamond "grew up" either spoiled or abused. According to canon, Gems don't "grow up" or mature like organic life; they're supposed to be able to know and be able to accomplish the tasks they were made for from the moment of their creation/emergence. Now, perhaps this is different for Diamonds rather than lesser Gems, but this isn't stated in canon to contradict the earlier stipulation. Amethyst gained considerable wisdom from experience, but she will never become as intellectually formidable as either Pearl or Garnet. Perhaps the Crewniverse went too far in the first look at Pink Diamond in Stevonnie's dream. That Pink Diamond wasn't just impetuous and emotional, she was frankly an idiot, whose only stated desire for developing a colony was because it was due her according to her Diamond status. There wasn't a hint of conscience, of a wish to do good for others; she looked more like she'd eventually become a Caligula, a Joffrey Baratheon, or the nasty piece of work imagined by Garnet. Oddly, while Yellow and Blue Diamonds wanted Pink to "shape up", White Diamond despised Pink and only wanted literally what they could squeeze out of her; that Pink should be locked away forever. According to Rebecca Sugar's timeline chart, White gave Earth to Pink because she was certain that Pink would screw up, and that would presumably put an end to Yellow's and Blue's efforts.

Something that the other diamonds literally stop Pink from doing. So her insistently wanting a colony and her own court makes sense.

I think one thing you guys forgot to touch on is the fact that Jasper belonged to Pink Diamond. From the second she "broke free of the Earth's crust", she was tasked in fighting a war to destroy and stop Rose Quartz. But then, she finds out the person she was fighting all of this time was the Diamond who made her. You could even see that she was conflicted and confused in the finale when Yellow Diamond had her eye on her. And now here, you can see that she's defying Steven, despite him having Pink Diamond's gem like she says. It must be really hard for her to accept. For all that time, she saw the Diamond Authority and their ideals as paramount and now that's all been taken down, and by someone who has her own Diamond's gem. (At least her first diamond) It would make sense that she would react like this.

I feel like the Rose Quartz’s were meant to serve as emotional support for the captive humans before they were all bubbled away. They were very complimenting towards Greg and the crystal gems at the table and even asked if they were alright when noticing how uncomfortable they were. Meanwhile in the episode “The Zoo” the amethysts try to catch the crying humans and struggle to help them calm down, since their duty is to simply guard over the facility, not emotionally comfort. But since the Rose Quartz’s were gone, they had to take on both roles. Also, when they mentioned black diamond, all the memes instantly came back to me

I love how it took you until now to figure out pink pearl was pink diamonds pearl. There were a lot of nods and heavy implications of that in the original show after she showed up. Like how she was in Steven's dream with the balls when he was in home world, and the dream where blue said white would take pink's pearl away. And then that she was pink after the mind control wore off (and in the dream) But I'm lovimg the realization now that it's here

That and for the other diamonds, their pearls not only match their colors but also their gem placement. They ARE custom made after all. I’ve always had this theory that out pearl was meant for white diamond (her pale coloring and the fact that her gem is on her forehead) but something went wrong in her creation. Jasper takes one look at her and calls her defective, and she is the only one with an oval pearl instead of a circular one. I think White was gonna have her tossed out and Pink asked for her instead.

​@@camiart_casual my personal theory about our pearl is that 1 of 2 things occured. either 1) Because pink damaged her own pearl, and they may have considered her own pearl an "enabler" or something of the like for pink's bad behavior because she was so like her, when they created her new pearl, she was designed with White's specifications being the most forefront in her settings. (maybe wtih some of blue and yellows influence because she wears more colors then the other pearls, but primirily white made the settings so it ended up more in her image). or 2) she was intended for white diamond, but white diamond is PERFECT she doesn't need HELP. so when she was made White just never "activated" her until she had to take away pink's pearl, and give her a new one. (and the reason she didn't just have a brand new pearl made could have been because of parts of idea 1) I personally only think Jasper called Pearl defective upon seeing her wasn't because of anything physically wrong with her, as much as she was a pearl who CHOSE to be part of the rebellion and fought (when pearl's don't fight). If there was clearly a high status gem in their group when Jasper met them, her comment might have been slightly different if she presumed the pearl was her's and was just doing as she was told. But of course, these are all just theories.

Someone already mentioned Rose's character development, but I wanna mention the "scream". When we meet Rose she has a SOFT, GENTLE voice, you NEVER hear her raise her voice ever again - I don't even remember her voice being raised in the entire series. It's clear that Pink Diamond was as traumatised by what she did to Pink Pearl just because of that one act. It was still her fault, but it was also an accident she tried very hard to avoid in the future.

Also the fact that when Pearl said that she didn't remember Pink having destructive powers, Pink probably started suppressing her powers because White probably warned her that if she broke another Pearl she won't be allowed to colonize a planet. Also I'm pretty sure she wasn't traumatized by what she did to Volleyball because she only started changing after she got to Earth.

Pink didn’t hurt pink pearl on purpose. Pink/Rose never meant to hurt anyone but her lack of control and understanding or her impact on others caused her to leave damage along with her successes. Like Steven in a way. He wants to help but his lack of control over his powers causes him to leave damage in places he helps along with his success. The yell in the pearl repair center is most likely an exact parallel to how pink hurt pink pearl. It wasn’t intentional as pink loves those close to her but her anger led to her leaving damage despite her good intentions. The show doesn’t generally have a set villain or bad person, possibly besides White who was the one who set the societal expectations from the very start. Pink was the first to truly break from that life so she didn’t do things with the intention to hurt anyone she cared for like pearl or Steven but she left without ever truly understanding the impact she had on everyone and everything

What happened with Pink more than likely is what happened with Steven in the episode. He got angry and stomped his foot on the ground causing damage around him and almost hurting Pearl and volleyball. And since Steven has the same powers as his mother it would make sense that Pink had lost control for a moment as well. Volleyball even said that she was standing close to her which put her in close enough range to cause damage. Does this excuse the fact that she was both physically and psychologically hurt? No, and there are no excuses for the damage Pink/Rose left despite her good intentions. But labeling Pink/Rose as a definite bad person and saying she hurt Volleyball on purpose would be inaccurate to her story and character

The best part of Rose/Pink's character is that you can see her in many perspectives. You can either see her for the selfish and spoiled Diamond that would make temper tantrums here and there whenever she didn't have her way, even hurting others in the proccess (like Pink Pearl and Spinel)... or you can see the kind and compassive leader that did everything in her power to change and create a world where everyone can be free. The show did a great job to show how people's perspective about Rose changed over the seasons, with them deconstructing the idea that she was perfect and showing her flaws and mistakes. If you have noticed, Steven and the others still love Rose, however they also acknowledge all the bad things she did and can no longer see her in the same light. Even if they know she tried to change, the fact is that doesn't erase all the bad things she did. I mean, she hurt her Pearl (even if unintentionally), she abandoned Spinel, she faked her own death without even caring about the impact that would have... Not to mention how she always took everything and everyone for granted... like with our Pearl.

Also, very cool that y'all picked up on Steven basically mirroring Pink's early destructive behaviour even as he wants to separate himself from her. Just like with a kid/adolescent growing up, a lot of that behaviour sucks, but it's also natural for them to feel such strong feelings as they grow - they just need the means to regulate emotions. Steven *almost* has the means because he's emotionally intelligent, but he spends so much time focusing on others that he isn't able to take care of himself until things get too bad. It also shows that while blaming Pink/Rose is easy, it's not as simple as that; Rose clearly got better over time, and Steven needs to be allowed to feel bad before he feels better.

I don't think people understand that we saw Pink Diamond development and growth in reverse. Rose is essentially a different person, she became rose, not to run from responsibility, but essentially to created a blank canvas, she built herself and tried to become a different person for the good of not only herself, but of others.

Fusions are the personification of relationships, and so when you really think about it, it makes sense that a scar from a previous one would remain. White said she could not have a Colony and pink screamed but Volleyball was just standing right next to her and felt the full shockwave of the blast damaging her. It does not justify what she did she should have been more careful with her incredible powers but it was an accident just like how Stevens tantrum this episode was an accident.

@@alejotassile6441 not really an accident is not abuse. If you kick a ball and it accidentally hits a bystander in the face and breaks their nose would you consider that abuse? Yes you are still responsible and you should have been more careful and should help the bystander to make amends but you did not abuse them. Pink got angry at white and screamed in anger and accidentally released her powers just like what Steven did and Volleyball who was standing right next to her was hit by the shockwave. It was an accident yes Pink is still responsible if she controlled her anger this would not have happened she is not free from blame but it was not abuse. For it to be abuse it must be intentional and repeated.

I think the deciding factor over whether or not it was abuse is how often Pink had her tantrums and how scared Volleyball was of them. If you’re in a relationship with someone who is constantly going into fits of rage, even if they’re not directed at you, and you’re scared when they do so it’s still abuse even if the one time they actually hit you it was a total accident. Personally based on how traumatised Volleyball was I’m inclined to believe that while Pink only hurt her the one time there were a few close calls.

You are correct if a partner gets angry constantly and that anger makes you uncomfortable and scared even if the anger is never directed towards you it would still qualify as abuse. Although that would be more so emotional abuse rather than physical abuse.

I'd just like to point this out again but we're learning about Rose here in reverse, at the beginning we knew of her kindness and compassion for life but as time went on we learned she wasn't always that way. When she was "younger", she was much like a lot of people that were growing up, spoiled, throws tantrums, and just wanted to be acknowledge, but as she "grew up" and taken on responsibility, she learned the wrongs she's done. Not everything was fixed, she did her best to preserve and take care of what she could

Pink didn't abuse her Pearl. She was careless and had an accident, a terrible accident that badly damaged someone she cared about, it was a one time thing that horrified her into changing how she behaved from then on. Pinks whole story is accidently hurting someone, changing so it won't happen again only to hurt someone else because she doesn't understand the effects her actions have on those around her.

People can be abusive even if they don’t mean to. It doesn’t always mean they’re irredeemable or unable to grow and change but it is important to acknowledge abuse. I have a person in my life who has not intended to hurt me but has been extremely toxic and at some points to other people in our life abusive. I don’t believe that they can’t change and start a new, better path. But they have still hurt me and other people. Something they must take accountability for one day to grow. ❤❤

Ehh I think it’s safe to say that there’s a relatively strong history of abuse throughout Pink’s life. Volleyball is the first and most obvious one and while Pink never resorted to physical abuse again she, intentionally or not, was consistently emotionally abusive. She gaslit and abandoned Spinel, she took advantage of Pearl’s loyalty to get her to do something horrible and force her to never mention it again all while keeping several important secrets from her, while her and Greg were ultimately pretty chill there was at least a decent chunk of their relationship were she treated him like a lesser being and even with Steven she managed to leave behind an utter clusterfuck that he was forced to deal with.

She’s always facing a certain direction or there is always an item conveniently obscuring it… it’s an intentional detail to let the viewers interpret whether or not her trauma has physically healed or not for themselves.

They were the two gem monsters Steven, Connieband Pearl fought but Jasper came in and drafted them. - Its funny you guys never noticed or predicted the temple gem being Obsidian! - I remember it being confirmed that Jasper's gem placement being a reference to Franky of One Piece but their personalities couldnt be anynore different! But also how gem placement does determine part of their personality traits. Jasper being a 'nose gem' just makes her a very forward personality type. She is already 'perfect' but combine that with her looking down on every other gem makes her narcisistic. But we all want character growth from her but it makes complete sense why she is the way she is. - Larimar liking screams could be attributed to the fact she was found in the ice cave that protected the 'Shooting Star'. Ice caves and crevaces when wind and air zipping through creates what sounds disturbingly like human screams. - Although the Rose Quartz storyline was necessary, I aas a little sad we never found out more about Skinny Jasper and Carnelian. Particularly Carnelian and why shes the only one of her kind. - Also funny you never caught on to the 'original Pearl' swap. Now in fairness they did actually confirm 'White's Pearl' to be Pink's in the original run but it was more towards the finale and part of the dream sequence where you see 'Volleyball' as a Pink Pearl playing with Steven but also the part where Blue shows up and is saying 'Whites going to take away your Pearl'. But the biggest giveaway was the gem placement matching their owner's gem placement. Pink Pearl is on her belly like Pink Diamond. Now the theory that Our Pearl was White's was false (plus Pink Pearl said shes OLDER than our Pearl) but there were theories she probably belonged to someone in White Diamond's Court or Elites. But it begs the other question: who or where is White Diamond's original Pearl?! Or was White so elite and self-reliant that she didn't need a Pearl?

Rebecca Sugar made me see the revolutionary girl Utena, from so many references that Rebecca uses from this anime in the shows.I was extremely happy when I saw the fusion of the two pearls as it is a "fusion" mix of Anthy and Utena from the anime 🥰 Another curiosity is that Pearl's design is based a little on the utena "clothes" and the fact that she fights with a sword in the episode where she teaches Steven how to fight with swords. We also need to remember how she grew up pretty abused, though also spoiled. The pebbles on homeworld were created by the amount of tears she shed. Blue would make her cry and lock her in a room, yellow would get physical with her and white would never listen. She threw tantrums just to be heard and went to extremes for everything. Don't get me wrong, she's not an innocent victim, but you definitely see the immaturity in her handling of things.

One thing people overlook with Pink is that we saw her story in reverse chronological order. She had a redemption arc, but seeing it backwards makes it feel like she was getting worse and worse rather than better and better. She was raised by the same society as all the rest of the gems and she was the first to recognize something was wrong with it and tried to do something about it. She struggled and failed and made mistakes, but a lot of the problems were caused by others putting her on a pedestal and assuming she knew what she was doing and could do no wrong. Look at her dialogue in the first few episodes that we see her. She was all regret and guilt. Greg mentioned that she always wanted to confess everything to him and seemed really troubled about her past. It doesn't excuse how she was, but you can't blame her for the bad without giving her credit for the good.

From my understanding, I figured Pink Diamond created the Rose Quartzes after she first shifted into a Rose Quartz to visit Earth. That there is an actual Rose Quartz who could pass as a twin understably freaked out Pearl and Garnet and GREG. Rose once told Greg that she envied the Human ability to change (during the backstory where Greg babysat Sour Cream). Volleyball and Pearl had to form Mega Pearl to realize the whole picture and the fact that Pink Diamond has been changing herself for eons. Pink Pearl (I despise the name "Volleyball") was evidently damaged and consequently irreparably scarred by her mistress Pink Diamond, entirely inadvertently. However, that wasn't the reason she was "swapped" for Our Pearl. As revealed in Steven's dream on Homeworld back in s5, Pink Pearl had been colluding with Pink Diamond to conceal PD's un-Diamondlike activities from Yellow Diamond, and for this she was zombified by White Diamond and replaced. In the original version, as included in the second art book, Pink Pearl actually told off the other Diamonds in defense of Pink, and that was treasonous behavior that could not be overlooked.

The main takeaway from Pink’s character isn’t just that you see her “growing backwards”, at least that’s not something the Crewniverse has ever felt important to discuss, the same way you’ll never hear anyone form the crew saying that she’s a good person, or defending her. It is absolutely valid to think of her as a bad person, because she really isn’t a good one. It seems like the only thing that Rebecca really wanted viewers to do was to interrogate themselves about this person, about why she does the things she does. OK K.O. is honestly one of my top 5 favorite shows of all times. It just oozes SO much love for animation and its very clear that the writers and animators really just had a ton of fun working on this show. The Show was meant to be Cartoon networks new flagship title and K.O. (the name of the main charecter) meant to be thier unofficial new mascot for the digital age, but due to a fascinating Dominoeffect of events originating completely outside of the show and even Cartoon Networks control, it ended up never happening and CN ended up not giving the show much airtime, so it remained relatively undiscovered. It is not at all a serious show but few other shows have made me both laugh and smile to the extent it has. If you do decide to watch it, I think you'll enjoy it a lot.

one thing to note is that pearl made up the rose quartz persona (remember she's the one that came up with it) when the amethysts were first popping out, the first gems on earth. meaning pink didn't copy this rose quartz, pink made the rose quartzes as a cover for her own persona and designed them after herself, not the other way around. she made an entire class of gems just to be cover and then they were all bubbled after she rebelled officially. as said, most of these roses didn't see the earth since they were born. that's also why there were so many rumors about rose quartz the leader, nobody had any point of reference. if they knew other rose quartzes didn't have healing spit or whatever, her cover would be blown. she made them just to be bubbled so she'd have a basis for her identity.

What I think is important to remember about Pink/Rose is that we saw her character development in reverse. And while yes, it’s horrible that she hurt Volleyball, we have to remember that she was a literal child when it happened. Children throw tantrums, Pink just happened to be a very powerful child (does not excuse it, but it does give insight into why). Everything that we’ve seen, Pink sneaking down and falling in love with the earth, learning to value all life, fighting against their oppressors, that WAS her character development. Of course it doesn’t change the outcome and she’s still responsible for nearly all the unfinished conflicts Steven faced but she had Steven with the impression that the diamonds had stopped coming for them and that Steven would have a peaceful life. There had been no activity for over 5 thousand years so she thought none of the past would come back for her family with her absent.

Ok ko let's be heroes is a great show! It got cancelled too sadly, however the creators wrapped up the plot really nicely. Would definitely recommend checking it out

There is a theory that has kind of been confirmed in this episode about why the pink diamond's pearl (Our Pearl) is the only one that is not completely the color of its diamond and people went deep into it. Our Pearl originally had an outfit with the colors of the 4 diamonds. Therefore, it is a reference that our Pearl was made by the 4 diamonds after something happened to the main/original Pink Diamond Pearl.The theory was that pink ended up breaking her original Pearl and the diamonds gave her our Pearl. There was also a small reference that the pearl was from Pink Diamond's court in her robot fight with Peridot, in which her clothes had a pink diamond representing being from Pink's court. If I'm not mistaken, that's what led to the theory that our pearl belong to pink diamond. Well, these whole theories weren't wrong as was shown and I think that's super cool. Many theories becoming true.

I highly recommend O.K. K.O.! It has all the charm of a Cartoon Cartoon, there's funny characters and quips, and it's just a love letter to animation as a medium. It's also from Ian Jones-Quartey, Rebecca Sugar's husband, who had a big part in SU, including as a producer, storyboard artist, and voice actor. Again, O.K. K.O. is definitely a must watch; it's an absolute shame CN shafted it.
