It's really cool how at first glance and for a non watcher of the show this comes out as a cute romantic song, but it gets honestly kinda twisted once you take the lyrics in context of Steven's psychic and emotional state at the time, and why he wanted to propose Connie in the episode, it's just amazing how the song basically flips its meaning on its head.

I was rewatching Steven Universe and in the wedding episode of Season 5 (Episode 23), Ruby says in her wedding vow to Sapphire that she "wants be me with you" (in reference to Sapphire). Steven was officiating Ruby and Sapphire's wedding and he had a noticeable look of awe and inspiration when Ruby said that. At least to me it seems like Steven was inspired by that vow when he sings this song to set up his proposal to Connie.

It's really not very romantic, it's more obsessive and the destruction of one's own individuality, and even more so taking into account the context, the song is great, but it's not made to be romantic.She is made to look romantic at first and then you realize how obsessive she is.

@specialsauce That's part of it, although I'd say he's more interested in just being Stevonnie (and the sense of security it gives him) than actually being taller or smarter. But it's also a neat reference to Greg's old song, "Let Me Drive My Van Into Your Heart". That song starts with the lyrics, "I know I'm not that tall / I know I'm not that smart. / But let me drive my van into your heart, / Let me drive my van into your heart". It's cute that Steven is referencing his dad's old love song in his own love song to Connie. And it's just another example of how thought-through this show is.
