He has complicated issues with his mother, with a very toxic helper mindset, and a whole ocean of self loathing. I had a mother who was abusive and taught me every thing is my fault, so I have a toxic mindset where I need to help all my friends feel better even at the cost of my happiness, and I honestly do hate myself. There isn't any one reason, but I feel like a fraud, a monster, a screwup, that everything is wrong with me and I should be dead so I can stop stressing my family. But I'm not strong enough to take my own life, or put a knife to my skin. So the loathing festers and creates evil thoughts within my head that beat my self-esteem and worth into the ground. One of the things I’d like to point out is how just like his mother Steven avoids his problems and runs away from them. They both have had incredible outbursts of anger and hurt other unintentionally hurt other gems. They sweep it under the rug and avoid letting others know to prevent worry and further problems, which in both cases doesn’t work. And the more Steven tries to avoid being his mother the more he becomes her, physically and mentally. What I loved about this season.

Alternatively, we could have a slice-of-life spinoff set on Homeworld in Era 3, either focused around Spinel and the diamonds or entirely new gems we haven't seen before. Alternatively we could see a spinoff focused around the gems running Little Homeschool - and Greg, who I can imagine taking up a job in teaching components of normal human life to gems in attendance - teaching gems and adjusting to life without Steven being around.

It should be obvious why there wasn’t a major battle against Steven here, primarily cuz it doesn’t make sense to hurt someone who’s already going through serious mental anguish and pain. Also because, even from what we’ve learned in this show, Gem fusions like Sugilite and Malachite had to be poofed to be defeated, but due to Steven being half human, they don’t know the risks that would happen of trying to “poof” him. I think that Steven reached that overpowering level of strength due to his emotional tied power levels (which is why he was stronger then the cluster and white diamond when his mother wasn't). My theory is that any gem can achieve max potential based on where they get their energy. For Steven he is a diamond which already makes him strong and his powers are emotional based. So the stronger the emotions he has the better his powers. Ex he is at a moderate happiness level he has moderate power capibilities. He is extremely sad he has extreme powers. Also when Steven feels older he appears older same goes with Steven feeling like a god, a child, a strong warrior, or a monster
