God, what a great persons Greg and Pearl are.. 4:31 Greg feels that Pearl has all the right for hating him, just because he stayed with the person he loved. Yes he knew Pearl loved her, but no matter how hard the situation is, that's not reason for you to give up.. but Greg still felt pretty bad of having stayed and hurt Pearl. And Pearl told him she didn't hate him for staying (which is the easiest thing to say) she admitted that she felt sad cause Rose chose him and not her, and finally started to accept Greg. Even when all this is such a hard thing fro her Pearl and Greg are awesome.. :')

"It's over Isn't it" is probably my favorite song in this whole series. It's just so filled with emotion and in a way it is relatable because just like he said, everyone remembers there first crush and heartbreak. I remember mine and it only lasted two days!! *Sigh* Dylan from second grade, we both confessed our feelings at lunch and dated till well the next day when I found out he liked Water type pokemon and I liked Fire Type....it was a pointless fight but it was the right that made us break up. I mean I was a secound grader but I still was sad because I thought I had found love. So I can kind of relate to that song because I remember that heart break and sadness I felt when we broke up even though I was the one to tell him that it was over. (Now that I think of it, my memory isn't very good so maybe my memory made it more comical than it originally was to help the pain....that has happened more than once with my memories so it wouldn't be a suprise.) Either way it was an amazing song and a great episode.

OK, I know this was a heavy episode...but GOOD LORD man I started watching this and I wasn't ready for your "so I've got my coffee...and the morning sun, beaming over my shoulder" bit... and I was unfortunately drinking something and had to choke a bit to recover. :D Seriously though... I'm SO HAPPY this bit of work has been done with Greg and Pearl... If you can say there are some "dangling plot threads" from arcs 1 and 2....this would be the one I thought was ignored. But then, their relationship had to grow a bit to comfort levels to deal with it, so...sad....but yay! Some relief. And songs! "This is what did it...? BURGERS?" I need to use that sometime soon.

You notice during that whole last song, Greg and Pearl are opposite colours (yellow and blue) but the background is pink right at the first "you both love me and I love both of you" lines, and I've just been hearing people say that this last song was more of Rose speaking out through Steven. And that Steven's voice actor wasn't singing in his normal Steven tone, but in one that was a lot closer to how we've heard Rose sing -> most Steven songs use a sting instrument, and we know Rose is characterized with piano sounds throughout the series, andddddd whooooo was playing a piano this episode

Nah, I also thought I heard it, but according to Joe Johnston (joethejohnston.tumblr.com/post/147705024808/in-the-song-both-of-you-or-whatever-it-is), writer and storyboarder for this episode with Jeff Liu and supervising director for SU, it was all Zach Callison, he's just a great voice actor (and also Susan Egan isn't in the credits for this episode): _"Haha, its funny because every time I hear that part I think its Rebecca singing! But it is really Zach Callison’s voice, it just happens to sound like it does. One thing you may not know is that very often the songs are cobbled together from multiple takes. The voice actors will sing the songs all the way through several times, and also individual parts and we’ll edit together the best runs to get the final version."_

As you said most cartoons would go back to the status quo after one episode, but this is Steven Universe, which by now has established a tradition of breaking this kind of cartoon tropes... (and, in any case, this being Greg "Mr. Frugal" Universe and all, it's not like the money will probably make much of a difference anyway...)

This was an interesting episode not only in terms of Greg and Pearls relationship but mostly in terms of Steven's emotional awareness and how well adjusted he is as a character. I would argue that he is becoming a little too well adjusted, almost out of character in the way the writers are presenting his ability to solve conflict among others. Now even though this was a sweet episode, honestly i think that the drama between Pearl and Greg was tidied up a little too quickly and perhaps even coming off as a bit of a facade. Would this outcome precipitate between two people knowing their history together? It's not impossible though highly unlikely, but mostly it's just a little easy and not very enlightening or poetic in my opinion. Not that this is the direction the writer's intended but it does feel like a bit of a lost opportunity to develop them with better connections to past actions. Steven's impact on the other characters was always very large but presented as if from a child's perspective. This quality allowed him and us to skim over much of the 'mundane' or 'melodrama' occurring off-screen (or at least very subtly in-screen) between the more mature characters. However now that the curtain of innocence has been removed, so to speak, we would expect him to approach those very same topics more directly now that he has a better context for them. The catch is that even though he is now aware of these elements that affect interpersonal relationships, he himself is not an expert in navigating this field or even having much experience directing such conversations. However he appears to almost always have the right thing to say in every situation, including things he has very little context/experience concerning. It's fine at the beginning as they slowly open up this larger world to him, but overtime it stretches the realm of possibility when writers continue to invoke the 'magical Steven knows best button' every time even a minor but complex issue is presented. This makes him look more mature but also makes everyone else look less mature, which is fine if the writer's are trying to showcase his growth but bad for all the other characters, ending up with a much smaller feeling world. I may be reading these 'non-Steven centered' episodes the wrong way though, it is very likely that as they are generally presented from the POV of that episodes 'topic' character, the way in which Steven appears is related to their relationship with him, i.e. they all see him as being very mature for his age. But again that should only work theoretically if we are shown their perspective of him as being less mature prior to this, making their reaction to such growth as apparent as ours. I'd argue you could only make the case of this occurring for 'some' of these characters not all, but we still have some episodes to go. These are my thoughts on the matter, what did you guys think?
