Spinel was the best written character in the SU franchise. I don't get how they got such amazing writing for a character and concept like that in the movie, but botched it so dam much in the follow up series after it. I'd also say peridot is the other best written character, though hers was based on long term development while spinel was based on a single movie. It isn't like they lacked the ability to have well written characters, so I dunno what happened with SU future..

Another thing that I love about Spinel: As you may know each character has an instrument to represent them whenever they're on screen (like, for example, you can hear chiptune sounds for most of Steven's scenes.) And Rose/Pink's instrument is violin. And guess what Spinel's instrument is? Violin. Except, listening to her scenes you can hear that it's reversed. Spinel's background music is literally mocking Pink by reversing her violin sounds.

While Steven was kinda dumb during Spinel's spiral scene, I think it's important to take into account he lost his powers and was miserable. His gem gives him energy and fusing with Greg took a lot out of him. Spinel was a second priority for him after she shut off the injector, and he was probably not thinking as clearly as he normally would. But still you'd think he'd try to be a little careful around her, lol.

I mean, It *is* a *really* good movie, besides the gems acting like they suck at fighting just to make a plot and tell some backstory, I loved it. I absolutely agree with you on the Let Us Adore you opinion, especially since the way they sing match their personality. Spinel is a character plenty of people relate to, and the crew, especially Sarah Stiles, did a fantastic job. For Steven Universe Future, you make plenty of valid points, and I think the main idea was to have a type of moral, that you can let out your feelings(i'm bad at explaining things so don't judge me pls ;-;). This movie came out the day I started my first day in high school, and it was stellar. As you said, sure it's flawed and not perfect, but there's something truly beautiful and masterful about this film. The characters, the voices, the animation. Just remove the Steg scene and it would be a 10/10 for me. It's funny to me how before the release, everyone wanted Spinel to be killed off because the diamonds were redeemed, but there's something special about how real she is. Her trauma, her pain, it's all *real*. It's a shame they wasted Sarah Stiles's talent on Future... (can we just pretend Future is a fanfic AU and that the movie is the true finale please? I really hope Future is the one that's forgotten instead of this beautiful movie, because it literally took a sh*t on mental health and Spinel as a character, and that is honestly the worst-) Anyway, great video. You explained your points and the plot of the movie really well, and why it is superior to future in every way lol.

I like SUF for a lot of reasons but i feel like _this_ is the season where filler/introducing new characters is not the way to go at all. That should be where you work hard on your already existing characters and make every episode more character arc driven. I know that filler does have its way of contributing to character development, but I don't think that's what future needed at all. It needed more Spinel, more Connie, more Steven/Crystal Gem intervention, etc. More of Sadie and Lars. Also I wish we had more of the BismithxPearl action, it's a good ship that deserved more screentime/development. However I do feel for the crewniverse, since they were cut on the amount of time they needed to make things longer and better drawn out. And I do commend them on how Steven's mental state was handled in a lot of ways (I feel quite a personal connection to Future!Steven myself). tldr: SUF was good in a lot of ways, but also flawed. if the crewniverse was able to make it more of a full length season it could have tied loose ends a lot better.

I still cannot BELIEVE the Steven Universe movie is a year old already. Is it me...? Or does it feel like 7 months since I watched it on vacation....? Anyway, it is definitely my favorite American movie of 2019, with Klaus and Missing Link as a close second and third. While it does have it's flaws, which is mostly writing and Steg, it still has amazing songs, some great animation, vibrant colors, and one of the most interesting villains I have seen in awhile. Spinel is awesome, one of the best characters in the show, and there are very few things I actually don't like about her, like how she decided to destroy the earth for no reason and that her backstory is the start of the demonization of Pink Diamond. But other than that, I love a lot about her, like her songs, her symbolism, her design, how cartoony she is, and mainly, her voice acting. Sarah Stiles is the perfect VA for Spinel, not only does she act a lot like her, but she gives her a lot of life, and actually makes her sound quite depressed. Not to mention, Other Friends is a great song and pretty much the best villain song I have heard since Friends on the Other Side :D My biggest problem with the movie was that it only added one thing to the whole SU story, and that was Pink's first mistake, only to be added and demonetized even more in Future. Now, I can see why she could abandon Spinel as lots of kids these days abandon their dolls a lot, but why have her stuck in a game of hide and seek for thousands of years when she could have probably take her over to Earth? That's my major issue with the movie, the events of it could have been all avoided if Pink never forgot about Spinel. Still better than the other three Diamonds though when it comes to being genocidal, though still quite an awful person. My favorite song in the movie was Who We Are, it was beautiful and quite relatable to me. I'd probably sing it this year, as 2020 is a very disastrous year and I am quite depressed during it. Like how my house almost got crushed by a tree during a tornado, and how I didn't know how to feel during the first Smash reveal of this year... but those are stories for another day. Anyway, I still think Who We Are is an awesome song, and really underrated. Seeing it get more love makes me really happy. Also to mention two other underrated favorites of mine, Finale and Isn't It Love. Isn't It Love is a very beautiful song, and the visuals look like something out of the Yellow Submarine, which is a gorgeous movie itself. Finale may sound exactly like Happily Ever After with some different lyrics, but it is a very nostalgic song that makes me cry. I break up in tears whenever I hear the final lyrics of it. It is my favorite finale song of any musical ever, and I love it. The SU movie was a very enjoyable experience for me, other than Steg (though his song was awesome as always). I will always prefer the movie's version of Teen Steven over the one in Future. He was quite likable other than dismissing Spinel for picking up the injector, he should have been more careful there after seeing her break up. Honestly, I think I will pretend that this movie was the finale to the entire series itself. Other than some good songs and the opening, I don't like Future, it's a HORRIBLE representation of PTSD, and it mistreats and breaks a lot of the characters. Especially Spinel, they make her so annoying and dislikable... while it may be emotional to a lot of people who have been with the series for a long time to finally come to a close, I didn't get why so many people were crying over the end of Future, at least the second last episode, I absolutely HATED that. Still, I love the SU movie a lot, and until I watch Weathering With Your or the Star Twinkle Precure movie, it and Klaus will be my favorite 2019 movies, at least in America :)))

Fun fact: at the start of the movie when Steven is doing the announcement to the galaxy, it shows people watching it all over space. If you watch closely, you can see spinels feet that have been in that position for so long that the grass has grown around her feet. Later on you see her singing her second song about pink diamond in her garden and it shows her standing there watching the announcement with her feet in the grass with vines around her feet. This is just a little something I noticed after watching the movie for the 5th time 🤩🤣

Honestly their are a lot of info from previous sessions and scenes to back up the reasons the writer decided to make Greg and Steven fuse, and more. When they fuse and sing independent song thing, it’s to tell pearl that she is independent but they are together. When they fuse they are together but they are also independent. The story and animation is amazing and stuff but we shouldn't forget one thing: The voice actor of Spinel totally nailed it I mean omg she is a talent, who did every letter like more than imaginabily possible perfect in every aspect of her existence in this movie. Also the role of spinel is soo hard, being on one side a cute and lovely playmate and on the other side a traumatized victim who tries to reconnect after rejection and lonelyness but can't because of trust issues, i mean did this voice actor experienced the same thing or why and how could she perform these deep feelings sooo realistic? You really could cry every time she cries, she hits so hard and it's doesn't feel like a cartoon kids show anymore. I love it

I totally agree with everything you said in this video, it's like...this film brings so many emotions, the music... I don't even know how to describe it but it's just ✨✨✨ It's funny how it doesn't seem like a good movie at first, but it still works sooo well... So yeah, it's totally understandable that this movie made you love Steven Universe :) (if I had one thing to say, I don't agree with 7:38 , I think Pearl also had an incredible character developement, and it's honestly one of my favorite things in Steven Universe)

10:14 I think what they were trying to get at that Pearl becomes more independent throughout the series. Pearl used to obsess over Rose and she used to rely on her for a lot. She was always by her side and very loyal. It wasn’t until later in the show that understands that Rose is gone and Pearl realizes that she’s her own person. You can see that when Pearl is going through all of her phases in the middle of the song (the guitar solo) You can see that half of the time she was serving Rose and was right by her side, but when she lost her, she became her own person by soaring free. That’s what I think but I could be wronf
