I really liked the symbolism of Connie’s Mom being yellow diamond. It really set in the fact that pink was more of a child than anything else. Sure, her size relates her to a child, but using Connie’s Mom as yellow diamond was a really good way of showing yellow and pink diamond’s relationship

This makes me think of Beach City Horror Club. You know how the gem in the lighthouse showed events that happened in Lars' and Ronaldo's childhood? (While they were there of course) I think this gives a lot of weight to your theory 'cause it shows that gems can store information of events that happened within the structure they're a part of.

Oh THAT ACTUALLY MAKES A LOT MORE SENSE! Pearl and the rest of the gems weren't TRYING to keep Lapis hostage, they didn't know she was sentient or who she was (still when Lapis returns I do hope she does confront them about this). It makes sense that Homeworld would use non-sentient gems to power things (like the one found in the upside down pyramid in S1; maybe that's also what the pillow gem is?).

Pooja that raises a really interesting question though; can non-sentient gems be corrupted? Presumably not as the mural/training temple in episode 8(?) wasnt corrupted nor was the moon tower gem, but It also makes me think of the beetles of heaven and earth? And there status and sentience and whether they are corrupted and if not how?

Yeah that does open up a can of worms that we may never get answers to. As for the Heaven and Earth beetle however, the Steven Universe Art and Origins book does show the designs of the uncorrupted Heaven Beetle. So they are supposedly a pair of important sentient gems. Not sure if the show will re-introduce them back or not though.

I do beleive that the sphere is a computer with the records of Homeworld ande the civil war. Garnet rushed Steven by which makes me think it contains a lot of information that the Crystal Gems did not want Steven to know.

Here's an idea. Steven can see the dreams etc of people he is close to- but also those that Rose was close to (after all he has her gem). An idea I've been tossing around is that Rose's function was to fuse with Pink Diamond in order to make her larger and more powerful- either because the other Diamonds don't want the Gems to see how "flawed" Pink is, or Pink herself wanting to prove to the other Diamonds that she is just like them. This is also why Rose had to stop Pink in the way she did- so Pink would stop fusing with her. This also might explain why the Diamonds are so anti-fusion... they don't want the regular Gems to make the connection and ruin the illusion of Pink that they have. It also would explain why Rose held so many secrets from the Crystal Gems. Perhaps fusion with a diamond is a bit different than regular fusion- with the diamond superseding the personality and form, and the Gem more like a battery. Or maybe a similar tussle like we saw with Malachite is there under the surface. Just a fun idea I had. :)

I only disagreed with you when you said that there was no reason they wouldn't just question Lazuli unless the mirror compeled her to display information. It is entirely possible that the Homeworld Gems have imprisoned her in the mirror so that she couldn't fight back when they were questioning her. I know that Lazulis aren't soldiers and they probably don't usually fight, but they are also exeptionaly strong on Earth due to the abundance of water. I think the mirror was most likely just to incapacitate her powers. But of course that doesn't disproves your theory in any way. I still believe that it is the gem who contains the data.

I agree. I don't think the mirror compels a gem to show things, because it was shown in the show that Lapis, while in the mirror, didn't always show what she was told to show. She was defiant. So yeah, I agree. I think it was just to trap her and make her unable to use any powers or form her body or anything, but still communicate.

I was thinking similar! My thinking was that either Pink Diamond was capable of leaving some impression on the area emphatically that Stevonnie picked up on or that Steven/Stevonnie was capable of picking up impressions regardless of the person involved. After all, Blue Diamond was able to project her sadness and Steven picked up on it. But I think your interpretation is much more interesting, and I like the idea of gems being used more like hard data/computers.

It just occurred to me: To access the Information, pearl is unable to tell, could they not try to put her into Lapis' old mirror? The way it operates it would do the job. Of cause, maybe these restrictions put on pearl might reach over to the mirror and prevent even that. (just a random thought I had)

The thing I find most interesting about PD's design is her gem shape. It looks less like a sideways parallelogram and more like a real life 'diamond' gem shape. I can't help but be reminded of the gem bubbled in the temple we've seen multiple times (although it seems too big and it's always in different coloured bubbles)

This was also my theory which I came up with as soon as folks asked how the Dream happened, that the Orb was the source, that the orb somehow recorded thouse events and Connie tapped into it (perhaps in a way that only Stevens mental powers allow). Though I did not recon it to be a power source as well, though that should have been obvious given how gem power sources work.

Impressive as always AJ HereI was with the half baked Idea that some of PD's gem shards were scattered on this random ass moon, and that's how they had the empathetic connection. One flaw I see in this is that for the most part, the diamonds don't really care about their underlings enough to have dedicated technology that records their emotions and memories. But certainly the feelings of a diamond are worthy of recording? The question is, why this little temper tantrum was worth saving? Perhaps this early moment of characterization is meant to be a groundwork, and the next will come with a character shift; inspired by YD's words, PD gets serious, and impresses the other diamonds in some way, earning her right to a colony. An unpleasant shock for them, that the colony they thought she was ready for turned out to be more trouble than any of them had ever dealt with before. In over her head, she regresses, and their counsel falls on deaf ears. In the end, they let her fall just to save face... Or maybe, they set up her fall, to salvage what remains of this bad venture and cut their losses. I don't know for sure, but I think you're on the right track.

I definitely go along with the idea that the sequence Stevonnie witnessed and took part in is directly connected to the Sphere in the Jungle Moonbase. I think it's entirely possible this connection happened because of the overgrown nature of the place, meaning the Control Sphere somehow relayed the information to Stevonnie through the plant life/vines.

Maybe the dream power is not unique to Steven, but to Rose had it as well. So it might be possible that Rose (if she was already around at that time ... we don't know when Rosequartz were made ... maybe Pink had already a few Gems(honour guard, ...) serving her at that time) witnessed the events represented in the dream, by looking through Pink's eyes (in the same way as Steven did through Blue's in an earlier episode). Which would mean that Steven (or Stevonnie) can access Rose's memories or at least a part of them. The dream was distorted because Steven was fused with Connie and it was definitely triggered by sleeping/being at the same location the events happened. Based on this theory, Steven can go back to Pink Diamond palanquin on Earth and go to sleep there (maybe as Stevonnie) and witness what truly happened there.

It's a very good theory, I actually wondered if the sphere was the corruption weapon when I first saw it. The idea of it being a power source/CPU/black box is much better, perhaps since the one on the jungle moon was old and damaged, it was dormant with only a little power remaining. And since Stevonnie (or part of her) resonated so strongly with Pink Diamonds emotional imprint at the time she was there, the Sphere though she was Pink Diamond and so played the recording. So it's kind of like the gem version of googling yourself, you might not come up with searches relating to you specifically but you'll likely come up with people with a similar name to you

Also note that Jungle moon is a parallel with earth moon. Maybe, the planet that you can see in the junglemoon base, is equal to how you can see earth by the moonbase. So, the memory stevonie saw is about Yellow having a discussion with other gem about the life on that planet, that she dosen't care about that. It's an invasion, hinting that the crystal gems aren't the first gems to question the Gem's autority. That destroyed planet, is what the earth would look like if the cluster isn't bubbled. Yellow destroyed that planet because of the betray of that gem she's speaking with. It's interesting, because if Pink was looking carefully into the situation, she would have learned more and maybe she would be alive today. Because it's a parallel situation to earth. It's sooo cool when you look at those details and can compare them with the reallity now.

The windows of the base kind of acted like a mirror too. So maybe the sphere projects these memories on the windows of the base. And the mirror projected memories in the mirror so the gems could see the truth rather than hear someone talking and potentially lying.

I seem to remember an old theory about the Geode being connected to the warp pad system, so maybe it's the pads' power source just like this sphere powers the moon base? That'd explain the size difference, as there are a ton of warp pads on Earth.

I always thought the sphere was an encased gem. Garnet might know what it is, as she was so quick to brush it off. If PD is alive she has to be what's in that chest, but it would need the "everybody saw what they thought was PD shattering, but actually it was a case of a mistake made in the confusion/Rose staged the shattering, because she couldn't go through with it". Since it is very implied PD was shattered by Rose's sword, if they reveal she's alive then they have to get creative with why everybody believed the shattering. I wanna say that no Diamonds were there, actually if one of them were it would be all over the witness reports and such which we know isn't the case, unless... Also PD looking like Rose, if only we had another PD gem besides Jasper to see if this is common for her.

I believe that, according to Sardonyx ("Every fusion gets a new ability. A new power, a new ability. A new weapon."), Stevonnie gets the ability to see important things that happened in the place they are. But your theory is really really interesting.

That's not exactly what Sardonyx said, and based on what we already know about fusions their new abilities come from existing abilities. So for Stevonnie to be able to see important things tied to places that ability would have to have a foundation in either Steven's or Connie's abilities. Since only Steven has Gem powers to draw upon, that ability would have to come from him, and he can't do that. He has to have something to connect to to see a vision.

Hey man first off just want to say love the theory video and the amazing effort you put in to them it really shows. You should know that recently a leak came out and. !!!!!!!SPOILER ALERT!!!!! It shows Lapis singing with the images of the Crystal Gems in the background and also Steven there with what appears to be the moon base and not only that but shows the sphere projecting that image of the Crystal gems at least it seemed like it. Grant it the video is in poor quality and I'm not too sure if it's legit or not so in all honesty take everything that I've said with a gran of salt but if that video turns out to be legit well it pretty cement your theory or at the very least that it stores memories of some sort. But like I said that's only IF that video I mention turns out to be real. Either way still love the theory!!

The only thing that bothers me is that Garnet was so eager to avoid the sphere on Earth's moon base when Steven asked what it was. The tone of her voice in that scene really made it seem like she was hiding something she knows about that object. Surely there would be nothing to hide about a simple battery/computer.

I thought the dream was just brought on by a form of psychometry. In Star Wars canon, Leia goes to Naboo and can sense the presence of Darth Maul, decades after he was actually there. It's kind of like a haunting of intense emotion rather than a ghost. An Empath like Steven, if he can use psychometry, would be able to connect to the memory in a certain place as well as objects. But the power source ball thingy simply adds a technical element to that idea which seems to fit really well

Oh! Haven't heard this theory yet. My stupid theory that I'm only mentioning because we don't have much to go on anyway is that when Stevonnie woke up, Lars was on the moon searching for them. Since Padparadscha's ability is to see into the past and Stevonnie's a fusion, maybe that enhanced Steven's dream powers so that he can see such an emotional memory from Pink Diamond from another gem. That's all I got.

Now that we have another structure of the same typology to compare it to, I agree that the centrality of the orb makes it a notable key feature. You don't just put a giant object in the center of a room all by itself for no reason. Even putting something there for aesthetics is reason enough. I am curious as to why the structure is so different from other gem-gineering we've seen before. If the orb is power source and/or computer for the Moonbases it lacks the branching tendrils of other gem architecture such as the Temple with it's heart or the Hand-Ship's core. Perhaps the Towers are only meant to be temporary bases of operation and therefore lack the more widespread, permanent structure of the branching cores. I would also like to ask why there would be a emotional component to stored surveillance of the Tower. It doesn't seem like something that Homeworld society would care about... unless the function is a vestige from older gem culture.

i don't think its the power source because it didn't have a physical connection to the moon base; its not on a pedestal or have conduits extending from it like the temple heart, and the heart of the finger ship, or aquamarine's ship. and not that scale has to be linear, but the temple heart is much larger than the ships heart, which i think correlates nicely with their power requirements, considering the temple's multiple dimensional rooms. I do agree with the computer part though. (I was looking back at episodes and the injectors also have conduits that come from the top gem, down to the middle that looks like a mini temple heart, and connecting to the bottom.... is it just coincidence about the heart shape?)

in wild speculation territory, what if the vine that took over the jungle moon base was a gem experiment? like an early version of the gem moss. I say that because i find it weird that it seems to be only at the moon base, and the flowers that are on it don't appear anywhere else (from what we see). Also its weird to me that it grew around the orb. like burst through the floor and around it. why? also am I crazy of does emerald's uniform look like it has both yellow and blue diamonds on it?

First off, what if the sphere is a mini-cluster and the original inspiration for the cluster? After all if such a small cluster could power an entire moon base, what could it do for/to an entire planet? (maybe they are made from off colors/sentient gems? though thats just an after thought.) Secondly what about the weird audio loop that was playing during almost the whole episode? It was in the background, it was like something oscillating or a weird frequency, I doubt it was just randomly put there for ambiance.
