6 THE FUTURE BITES (6.5) (This is a good album but i don't lean much to electronic Wilson as i lean to prog Wilson, but it still has good songs like: 12 Things i forgot, personal shopper, count of unsease, man of the people, follower. Also has the worst song by him witch is eminent sleaze) 5 Grace For Drowning (7.0) (This album is good but gets me asleep every time, it's just so bad paced compared to to the bone and the raven. The interludes are great though) 4 Hand. Cannot. Erase. (9.0) (This album is so great, i always listen to this with my dad and brother in the car and every time we bang are heads off with the title track) 3 The Raven That Refused To Sing (9.0) (great album, Luminol, Holy Drinker, title track, drive home, are the best songs, everything else is ok) 2 To The Bone (9.5) (It's so hard for me to decide witch album i prefer from now on, but in my opinion this album doesn't achieve the prog epics we have on the raven) 1 Insurgentes (10) (Nothing to say except... Significant Other is my fav song ever)

To the bone....if you hear the album out in it's entirety and forget those "pop tracks" like the one you showed on here it's actually a killer album with some really good prog stuff. Summing up that album with one of the tracks that none of us prog people will like doesn't really represent the whole album by any means. However there is a really good message in that song that outweighs a lot that's out there these days. There's at least 4 tracks that have an absolutely killer rocking prog vibe.
@DKMediaMusic3 жыл бұрын
Believe me I've heard the whole thing. But besides the few tracks I mentioned it really does nothing for me at all. Despite that I think its cool theres some people out there that actually dig it.

@@DKMediaMusictrack 2, 3,4 and 10 are mad prog tunes especially that huge breakdown on track 10, great guitar solo!. I honestly thought Hand cannot erase was a total flop. I guess everyone has different tastes.

I've been hoarding all things Steven for far too long. I didn't get the box TFB because it wasn't a book like the rest of the deluxe editions, and who the hell really wants a tape? I would have purchased it if it was a book deluxe edition. Damn u Steven. Damn you.

Can't entirely disagree young man, the Raven for sure is up there but Grace, nah & TFB well forget it. Id have the Incident on my list in place of TFB. Blank Planet, Deadwing & Raven are all necessities with lots of others knocking on the door espesh Lightbulb & Absentia.

If I were to combine both solo and PT I would go insane trying to pick between them. Especially the top 2
@thomaslioutas44173 жыл бұрын
I think that you underestimate some of his albums... or we have vastly different opinions. For starters, I really prefer his solo work much more than PT, as I didn't like much their last (post In Absentia) albums with the exception of The Incident. As for his solo work, Insurgentes is my absolute favorite, with Grace for Drowning, To the Bone and The Future Bites following in a sort of tie, liking each for different reasons. Hand Cannot Erase has both great moments and some that are a bit more uninteresting for me, and yeah, the Raven is a no-no for me. It is the one album from his solo catalogue that I can't really enjoy. I guess though, that everyone can find his/hers favorites from such an extensive catalogue and its up to taste!

Wow we have an exact complete opposite outlook on Steven. Thats some beautiful Ying yang work right there
@thomaslioutas44173 жыл бұрын
@@DKMediaMusic Yeah I guess it happens! I'm mostly into atmospheric/psychedelic and ambient, drone & electronic influences, rather than the more metal and rock ones. What's most interesting is that he clearly has stellar examples of both ends in the spectrum of "progressive" (never liked the term, as its more of a way of thinking for me, rather than a definitive style). If you haven't, check also some of his early No-Man records, like Loveblows & Lovecries - A Confession. Albums like these help a lot in understing his roots and the way that he is returning there with TFB, in my opinion.

Your enthusiasm is nice to see, you are young though, I doubt very much that anyone will be playing The Future Bites and To the Bone in a few years times, they are already dated with poor songs and awful high pitched vocals. First four solo albums are great, not because of Steven Wilson but because of the quality of performances from the guest musicians. He gives them a good base and they take it to another level. 1 The Raven 2 Grace for Drowning 3 Hand. Cannot. Erase. 4 Insurgents 5 To the Bone 6 The Future Bites I agree that there is a large gap in quality between the last two and the rest which doesn't give a lot of confidence for the future. Personally, I don't want Porcupine Tree to get back together. That catalog is good, not great, good. I wouldn't want it spoilt though by a future release that's pants, which nearly all come backs are. Nothing he as ever done though I personally would class as amazing or a classic. Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, Animals, The Wall, Pawn Hearts, Godbluff, Still Life, Hunky Dory, Low, Scary Monsters, Selling England by the Pound, Relayer, Thick as a Brick, Led Zeppelin IV, Bitches Brew, Inner Mountain Flame, Elegant Gypsy, Rubycon and many many others are brilliant and classics. Some of Porcupine Tree were very good, yes but not in the same league at all. As I say, you are young, time and experience will change your mind.
@DKMediaMusic3 жыл бұрын
Yep, its all about that Guthrie and Marco. Everyone else does a great job at all. But about the classics thing I mean eventually stuff thats coming out now is gonna be considered "classic" in the future. I think albums like the Raven and Fear of a Blank Planet will stand the test of time. At least for prog nerds. It definitely won't reach a wide audience as Pink Floyd or Zeppelin
@juanluisgalvezghiggo66183 жыл бұрын
Dude that's just your opinion IMO To the Bone is a very fine record that contains some of the best songs he's ever made. But the mention of those prog albums after maybe is enough to know where you come from
@stuartraybould64333 жыл бұрын
@@juanluisgalvezghiggo6618 Those prog albums are classics, yes but don't presume too much. Here is some other artist I like, all progressive but not prog rock. I am progressive minded that is true: Between the Burried and Me Afro Celt Sound System Tori Amos Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds Everything Everything Brian Eno Peter Hammill Foals Deftones Autechre Future Sound of London Haken Elbow Marconi Union Mahler Oceansize Ozric Tentacles Arvo Part Pain of Salvation Pearl Jam Radiohead Snarky Puppy Gogo Penguin Max Richter Talvin Singh DJ Shadow Transglobal Underground Tool Tom Waits Jah Wobble That'll do. My point is that you can't judge where I'm coming from with just a list of classic albums. I'm in my 60s and have a very large collection of music of all types. It has to be interesting, beautiful, exciting in some way and yes, in my own opinion (that's the only one I have after all) just like you, good music. To the Bone had it's moments true but they were just moments, The Future Bites is worse, truly terrible. Wilson has never released a album that can be called a classic. Don't get me wrong, I like most of what he has done, some are very good but they don't hold up against a truly classic album. There are a number of artist over the last ten/twenty years that have released classics but Wilson is not one of them. Yes, that just my opinion but it's one that, so far, has held up well when discussing this with others in the real world.

I’ve never read anything more condescending and conceited in my life. Get off your high horse. You express your opinions as facts and even worse you can’t articulate why you feel the way you do. I prefer porcupine tree to Steven Wilson’s solo stuff so your proclamation that porcupine tree as “good but not great” doesn’t ring true to me given the full scope of their discography. Fear of a blank planet has a cohesive and beautiful sonic tapestry which to me is more engaging than any of the other albums you listed. Given Wilson’s influence in the modern prog rock scene it seems kinda arrogant and short cited to declare that he hasn’t “created a classic” yet. When he has released works which have garnered the attention of legends like Robert fripp and Alex lifeson. Hell in you the vast majority prog threads will find some mention and praise of porcupine tree and Steven Wilson’s stuff. Not to mention his heavy handed production and influence on Opeth’s blackwater park and damnation which are considered modern prog classics too. And if you’re talking about opinions that hold up “in the real world” (whatever that means) I showed a friend who’s not even into rock or prog fear of a blank planet and they gave it a 10/10 Basically stop pretending that being older and having different tastes makes you or your opinions any smarter
