It’s like an instant negative reaction - this isn’t what we wanted! And I get a lot of that, particularly because I’m constantly confronting the expectations of my audience. I don’t do the same record twice. So this record particularly - because it’s more electronic, it’s got less of the classic rock tropes about it - some of the early songs that were released drew an incredible wave of negativity. And I see that beligerence now at work a lot on social media. The fact that people take black and white positions - there’s no element of compromise or perspective, any more. I have to admit, as a long time fan, I was really nervous about steven changing direction, or should I say, expanding direction. For me, how could it get better than his time with PT and Hand cannot erase? I'm happy to say that the 5 singles from this upcoming album did not disappoint. I'm so happy that the true essence of his gift has not dimmed, it has just been channeled differently but I LOVE it. I'm open to it. Instead of forcing the new music to compete against the backdrop of the past, challenge yourself to just listen in the here and now, as if you're learning something new and different. And fans are.. We have a unique opportunity to get to know the musical prism that is Steven's music. Some will fall away, but others are just buckling up for the journey.

Sadly, I think that we've mythtified the classics so much that if The Future Bites was to be the closest thing to a modern Dark Side of The Moon or Wish You Were Here (and seems like that will be the case) critics would probably not admit it.

It's hard to let our favorite artists grow from the works they made when we first found them.
