@@jarihalonen9642 I know only a few, but Lightbulb Sun is fantastic and certainly defining for them. Signify introduced their sound and talents to me back in the 90s. I was blown away by it and practically convinced they were aliens warning humanity what was to come. I was young and high. Anyway, I've always felt that album was the most cohesive lyrically and in the way one song flowed/evolved into the next. Brilliant.

Discovered and subsequently got addicted to PT during their hiatus years, and I gotta say I really never thought this day would come again. I love SW's solo work but PT is just a combination that simply is unrivaled in the landscape of music and I'm SO EXCITED TO HEAR THIS ALBUM! I am crushed that Colin isn't a part of this new generation but thankful that Richard, Gavin, and Steven remain a solid trio. This new direction sounds like perfect parts of old PT mixed with a modern-prog edge, parts of this remind me of tool but a big part of this sounds like Karnivool, which has me so excited. This is going to be the slowest half year of my life waiting for this damn album but I am just almost brought to tears by its existence. What a good day!

its good you mention that. i think steven wilson should have a blend of porcupine tree with steven wilson band. my openion would be to merge some members from both bandd into a single band,,without placing aside all the great quality from the other past key players. my openion this band should have: Richard Barbieri, gavin harrison, steven wilson, Guthrie Govan and Nick Beggs . that would be the best fusion band possible. a band that would play porcupine tree and steven wilson songs and make news albums with both concepts. i know the bands are different but why not? that way steven wilson would have a rest instead of trying to make everyone happy from one band into another band.hope steven wilson would listen to me and try to do that.imagine listening the best tracks from both bands?

The way gavin described PT he referenced as more than a band but a movement. Sounds pretty bold to me. I'm guessing if he doesnt fully get involved in the writing process he enjoys the opportunity to add his own distinct flavour. Barbieri is great as well im guessing he can sort of go ad-lib ontop of steven and gavin (i could be wrong i have no idea how the process works for song writing ahaha!)

Went to every show from 2005 to 2010 when they came to Los Angeles. Seeing them live was ALWAYS a fantastic and money worthy experience. And this track sounds great! I'm certain without a doubt that Closure/Continuation will be a unbelievable album by the sound of Harridan. Only two downers are, 1, the long wait, and 2, no Colin Edwin. I wonder what happened? But the bass on Harridan is bomb! I'm not sure that SW can play bass that well. Soiunds like Nick Beggs to me, who knows?

1:57 is one of the moments of pure brilliance by Gavin Harrison. For a large part, this song is written is 5/4, which gives the song a really nice sense of hesitation. In this section, Stevens sings "Like the Harridan your are" as an anacrusis for the new theme starts at the 1. That new theme has a spacious groove to it. So instead of drumming to the 1, Gavin extends his 16ths until the 2. This adds perfectly to the goove of the next theme and the song overall, and at the same time it's so distinctive and creative. Amazing stuff!

Yeah, like others have said, buckle up. PT is a deep and blissful hole. Their newer albums have Gavin Harrison as their drummer. Arriving Somewhere but not Here, Anesthetize are two of their greatest hits imho. Welcome to the Tree!!!

This was certainly worth waiting 12 years for. In hindsight, i'm happy they didn't continue after The Incident. It would probably have resulted in an album which didn't live up to their standards. More of the same so to say, no progression. This sounds like something fresh and new while still being totally Porcupine Tree. Can't wait to hear the rest of the album!

Funny thing is that this and couple of other the upcoming songs were written around The Incident era to be follow up for a new PT album. I guess he then explored these type of ideas for Raven and HCE and they held these song ideas on a hard drive waiting for a better moment.
@santibanks
@santibanks 3 жыл бұрын
@@northtimo666 well it sounds to me that there were demos written after The Incident (like the last social media post also mentions) which was probably a rough demo or sketch. But you can clearly hear a lot of elements in here which Steven developed pretty late in his solo works. There is more advanced harmony in here which is indeed from his Raven/HCE period. But aspects of his vocal delivery are very similar to stuff from To the bone and TFB. Some of these arpeggiating synths are also very much his style from his last two albums.

I actually felt like The Incident didn't live up to their usual standards.

@@ShatteredArm1 i tend to agree, there are a lot of great moments on there but also some "fillers" on disk 1. And I guess they felt that a direct follow up would be "even less" than The Incident. In my opinion, FOABP fulfilled the ambition of what The Incident is supposed to be better as it is more cohesive and concise.

As a drummer who is learning this song I can say that this fill is actually not extremely difficult as it’s mostly rolls and/or 16th/32nd notes. But furthermore it is difficult because of its timing. On starts on beat 5 and extends to 1 of the measure after. Furthermore it is hard physically because it is fast and goes immediately into the chorus groove which is relatively hard anyway.

These kind of fills when he’s performing live, at first, turn on: surprise me because most of the time he plays it live a tad different than on the album. Tune in: At second it makes me tighten up because it sometimes feels like he’s not going to make it to the bridge in time and makes me think: how in the héll are you going to fix this, Gavin!!! Drop out: And right at the moment where he weaves his patterns and lifts the song to the point where they all get together again, I get the chills because I feel relieved and exited at the same time. Really, this working man makes my senses go nuts during a live show! Brilliant and I 💖 it. Can’t wait to hear this song, but most of all PT, live again.

I almost can't believe that this is happening. First Liquid Tension Experiment comes back with another album and now PT is back!? I became obsessed with Porcupine Tree a little over a year ago and they've quickly become one of my favorite, if not my absolute favorite band ever. To me, they stand head and shoulders above all over progressive bands. I was so sad that, once again, I would only discover something after it was already over. This is genuinely one of the first times I've ever been so excited about something happening in the music world. So happy to see them return!!

100% in the same camp. I was introduced to them by a friend a couple of years ago, but never really “dug in”. Damn. Badass! Full fledged fan! And as a drummer, I should have known Gavin was in the band. Just never made the connection. Maybe a tour? Guys? Do you hear us?
