@@TheMaster4999 hmmmm that's not a problem. What is really self-indulgent is stating that what fans want is superior than what an artist want to his project. If Steven is happy by doing whatever he wants, I'm happy. That guy puts love and effort in every step he does (musically speaking). Is up to us the fans either enjoy his work or skipping it from our taste.

I remem ber reading years ago how Steven Wilson refused to be boxed into the confines of being a "prog "musician and writer . Over the years I have begun to understand what he meant. It takes balls to go in new directions when you know there are going to be many who switch off and ask for a return to the öld stuff". Millions of kudos to you Steven for looking for and going in new musical directions . Perhaps we can all learn to take off the blinkers when it comes to new directions in music and go on this new journey with you. If anyone is going to take us on this new journey , I am grateful that we have you to lead the way!

What we call "prog" now has become a clearly defined genre with expectations from listeners. It's funny - as far as pure artistic expression and experimentation go, prog genre is now quite confined.
@nsbd90now

That is why Steven Wilson is one of my three favorite songwriters (the others being Ian Anderson and Chris Corner). Yeah, I like prog, but I also like lots of other genres, and SW does well writing in them. I'm trying to avoid listening to these new songs repeatedly until the entire record comes out, especially since I'm getting that newly-expanded limited edition. I can already tell I'm gonna like this one alot!

Not to mention that actually this is him going back to the old stuff, it just seems that the bunch of ppl that jumped on stevie bandwagon with the raven never bothered to listen to early porcupine tree or no man
@alanmilne1070
@alanmilne1070 4 жыл бұрын
@@platypus.divergent Certainly. Most of the"prog"that I initially loved was very much guitar based with keyboards being secondary but , as we all know, that is not the rule at all. I subsequently learnt to appreciate and enjoy the more electronic and keyboard oriented prog. It is almost the same journey we are on with Mr Wilson!

Steven Wilson is exactly doing what progressive music should be about: progression and change. Love this song.
@wickywoowoo
@wickywoowoo 4 жыл бұрын
Progression and change for the sake of it is redundant though. There is no point progressing and changing into something you aren't good at and while I don't hate these new songs.... I don't really think they are any good either. If he's happy then fair enough. I have his older stuff to listen to. So long as he likes what he is doing and others enjoy it, it's all good.
@huseynkbrov7136
@huseynkbrov7136 4 жыл бұрын
@@wickywoowoo Complexity for the sake of it is the same, I am guessing it's one of the reasons Steven WIlson "downgraded" his music. Whether it's truly downgraded though is still a question, because it's done on purpose, it's noticeable how he is "holding back" and it adds its own effect.
@MarkJones-mm3br
@MarkJones-mm3br 3 жыл бұрын
Progressive music as a genre is about progression within a track - which can embrace complexity and simplicity, hard and soft, fast and slow, changes in rhythm, key, etc. (It can incorporate other genres but still within that frame.) Progressive music is not about switching genres. If that was the case, it would be progressive music if SW put out a marching band song. Clearly not the case. To avoid conflating different concepts, I think it's better to hold on to two different concepts: 1) progressive music, as described above; 2) a progressive *artist* who doesn't like to stick to one genre or musical style. Steven Wilson would! therefore, be a progressive artist who, mostly creates progressive rock/pop (Porcupine Tree and most of his solo work) but has also occasionally released more standard-sounding rock/pop/electronica (To The Bone and The Future Bites). Prince and Madonna could be viewed as progressive artists but not creators of progressive music.

I am going to be super honest here. This song is creating small holes into my heart. I am feeling this weird emptiness since I listened to this song. It feels like I am the King Ghost now. This year has been a sad one, a terribly depressive one. I still haven't figured out whether it is a happy song or a sad one but I am tripping with sorrow after hearing it. It always demands a lot of listening to understand Wilson's music. It takes time for those songs to grow inside. Once it hits the spot, it dominates the soul. The music forever stays inside the brain cells. Steven Wilson, Sir, you are a real Genius.

I rarely see group of people in a comment section with such genuine fandom to this Artist. Indeed, Steven Wilson deserved respect. Been following SW since PT years with Gavin

I hear lots of influences on this track from Thom Yorke to Talk Talk .....with a sprinkling of No man ........Yes i love PT but i love Steven's solo work too .....i like the fact he's a musician and an artist who can walk his own path and still create impressive bodies of work .......This is so refreshing compared to the manufactured autotuned stuff that is in the mainstream.....long may it continue

Will i ever have the luck to meet Steven in person? I just want to see him make and record a song. With music he has explored beyond boundaries and it seems that he is sailing in the open space picking up the inevitable. The chills are the only thing which is still prevalent in every song. Rest is unpredictable but so beautiful.

I lost my darling husband Col on August 6th to Cancer, he was only 58.. We are Pagans and I like to think this video shows what his afterlife was like when he passed over to the Summerlands.. We are massive fans of Steven and it was the Fear of a Blank Planet and Deadwing albums that brought us together on Myspace in 2008.. So many tracks and albums of PT and Steven as he progressed that we shared together and as many gigs that we could get tickets for.. The Hand Cannot Erase tour in Brighton was the last gig that Col could manage before his health went so wrong.. He would have enjoyed this new work from Steven. I miss him so very much.. I just hope we can be together again and tracks like this are so right for how I feel right now.. :'(
