The homeowner better call and have that coil plate addressed if he wants the boiler to last more than a few years. The bolts must have been loose. If I saw the condition of that I would think it was 25 years old.

The NFPA says you can have an oil supply line coming off of the top of a basement oil tank. If you pull oil from the top of the tank there might be a chance the pump pulls less slime and sludge through the filter.
@kennylavay8492
@kennylavay8492 Жыл бұрын
Better to have the oil supply down at the bottom to empty the sludge from the tank, that is what the filter is for . change every year or two.
@Skarmy762
@Skarmy762 Жыл бұрын
All of the sludge and slime that doesn't pass the filter will be pulled into the supply line and the pump, then eventually the draw assembly. I've seen it way too many times with underground/basement tanks this year alone. What's worse is that the condensation/water goes straight down to the bottom.@@kennylavay8492

Guy probably bought the cheapest oil he could find letting his fingers do the walking in the yellow pages, the crappy oil they delivered wa probably 5 cents a gallon cheaper than the other places he called, same story with the boiler- he went with the cheapest everything, so he got the pipe installed in front of the swing-out door so the installer saved $2 not having to install 2 elbows LOL

In NY they can't call it #2 heating oil if it is biodiesel. They have to call it B and a number. B2 or B5. So NY and NJ are good for the time being, we get the good stuff.

Biodiesel does not have the crud in it. The ultra low sulfur diesel will dissolve the hard sludge that has accumulated in the bottom of storage and vehicle tanks over the years. Often a small amount of biodiesel is added to the ultra low sulfur to replace the lubricity that the sulfur provided. With enough filter changes, the problem will eventually go away.

From my experience, people should never get a tankless coil. They should get an indirect water tank and have it as a separate zone. It's a lot more money but easy to maintain and easy to replace. Taking apart a tankless coil after it rusts is a major job. Steve would never take on fixing that 3 year old boiler's coil. But I bet he would replace an indirect water heater.

@DAS-Videos

No, it is from water leaking. It must have been leaking from the day it was installed. Since the boiler is hot there is no accumulated water to see, it steams off the metal. Probably $2,000 job to fix it. Or he can put the 2k towards a new boiler.

Howdy Prof steve & super fluffy Miss molly........ I have say this : go cheap pay twice 😉 Yet many people still fall for the same time worn trap of looking only at the money not the length of service of the item at hand + annal services costs. Just like people that get Combi boilers & think that they can save money to off set the cost & not think about the extra servicing cost year on year to only go bite the dust in less in 10yrs still debt from the first install yet pay out even more for second that going to last less time sinking deeper in trouble. If they stayed with a tried & tested system not eco friendly it be bigger up front cost but longer by many years lasting! Can you tell the fools? Nope!

Clients have no idea why cost is what it is. Ive never changed an estimate if they didnt accept it. These are the worst people to work for because once they smell blood in the water it's a constant nickel and dime game to them. Ive lost a few clients from this but Ive never lost money on the jobs Ive done. I usually tell them to read my Google reviews and check my certifications, that doesnt cost anything.

The installer saved $2 by omitting two elbows to clear the door, looks just like a landlord I had in the 80s in NYC who replaced a defective fire sprinkler valve with a piece of pipe because the valve cost more, all was fine until the day a 3" riser froze, cracked and thawed and the 100 psi water camr out like a full open fire hydrant in MY loft on the top floor, the water flooded all 5 floors and filled the basement, it was running for at least 12-14 hours before another very old valve was found under the sidewalk belo a grate in the floor on the ground floor and it took 3 firemen to turn the valve handle off.
