Well when I was growing up I ALWAYS hovered the repair guys my parents called out and kept notes on what they did. Some would ask me what I was doing and some tried to shoo me away but that never worked lol. That is what led to me actually taking classes and getting certified to do A/C type work, electrical, plumbing, etc, My primary career is IT and Communications. It's nice to have fall back career options when hard times fall on you especially these days.

Emerson makes the rescue motors in condenser and indoor motors. they will replace at lease 5 different fractional hp motors and others. stock several and you will seldom need to make a trip to the parts house but to restock on them. get the customer cool again and save money and time. make another service call or two that day. $$$$$ I carry 10 on my van and don't usually have to make a trip to the parts store.
@cpronikkor26038 жыл бұрын
Had a condenser fan motor go out in my 15 year old 2 1/2 ton trane package unit a couple weeks ago. It failed in the evening thankfully so I called a company that will remain nameless to deal with it, since I didn't want to drag my butt onto the roof and all the supply houses were closed. They came and wanted $950 for the motor and $450 for the labor(!) Are they making condenser fan motors out of gold now? Called up a few more places locally after sending him away and they were within the same price range. Thankfully I was home when the motor started to seize so I caught it quickly.. the motor windings didn't burn up! After I sent the man away I dragged my butt up the roof, pulled the disconnect and the motor, pulled the motor apart, cleaned off the goop, zoom spout oiled the heck out of it, managed to get it back together and with a few love taps get the motor happy enough to get me to the next day. Granted I live in Phoenix, AZ and it's been rather hot out, The markup was still too rich for my blood, I ended up getting up the next day thankfully cool from my exploits the night before, got a motor from a local supply house for $165, dragged it up the ladder and did it myself. I was all ready to shell out $550-$600 or so to have someone else do it, but geez, you gotta be a certified HVAC guy out here to not get ripped off out here!
@cpronikkor26038 жыл бұрын
Yeah it's all good. The tech was going to use a universal motor. I got a Mohave 70C rated motor (hecho en' mexico) and a new cap (made in usa), replaced it and followed the instructions on the motor, got the rotation correct and it is working great. OEM fan motor is not made any more (GE branded) but the replacement part online was $130, or I could have had a rescue universal motor for $69 (free shipping!). I opted to snag it locally, get a slightly better part and fix it fast though.
@cpronikkor26038 жыл бұрын
Understood. I called our local trane supply house, and they didn't have any of the superseded part in stock, nor could they get one within 2 days. I believe the replacement part is a Nidec motor just like the mohave universal I installed.

Steve, I try to listen to as much of your commentary as possible. I’ve noticed you don’t like the pleated filters. Which do you prefer the most and why? Also, what are your thoughts on the different styles of reusable filters? The mesh screen style, K&N brand, foam style, etc. I’m also assuming the decision on which filter is used is depending on the blower and ducting setup. thanks in advance!

"Who wired this thermostat???" - "Idunno" XD I don't mind people watching me work or the occasional question, but the 20 questions and comments is what gets on my nerves. Especially on new IT or comms installs "Why are you drilling this hole? Why do you need in this room? Why this, why that, on and on" - Just unlock the freaking door and let me work and tyr to stay clear of things that may fall.. I would record more of my work but I get not asked but told not to on most jobs.. Kinda a bummer because I tend to work in some pretty unique areas like inside locomotive cabs installing radios and other comms gear or cell tower sites replacing transceivers.

The kind of people that get the basic filter disappoint me. One, your filter is NOT statically charged, more dust passes through. Two, its a cheap build. At the least get Filtretes red tier. (Higher than basic.) If I read his filter right, its a filtrete. Now I'm not saying get the highest tier either. I'm saying get a filter that has static charge.
