Good call on the TLR to tube tyre weight difference. I've never cared to check. Probably would be lighter with a clincher + latex tube than TLR + 40g of sealant. Just lose the puncture protection. Great review, as always.

Note about carbon spokes. I was @ 225lbs when I started riding my winspace wheels. 1st spoke to break was rear wheel at the threads. rim went barely out of true and I made it home. The next time I broke spokes because my derailler committed suicide and dove into the spokes accelerating out of a corner. Took 3 out but the wheel didn't fail. It has been repaired and no problems since. I think the tensions are so high if you lose one you good chance of making it home. But it is a negative that you cant make an adjustment on the road in a jam with a spoke tool

Fantastic review which influenced me to buy a RB set. I rode them for 1/2 season upgrading from a pair of DA C24. They climb as well or even better then the DA. Definitely faster on the flats and not harsh at all. The wide rims maxed out the clearance of my DA900 calipers. I have barely 1mm on each side. Thinner pads would help. Down side, very Loud free hub. Some people love it but it's not my cup of tea.

As always you do the best wheel reviews I've watched. I'm not looking to buy wheels because I bought a set of Campagnolo Shamal Carbons a couple months ago. You want to talk about a pretty wheel, Campagnolo wheels are pretty which is one reason I wanted them. The most important reasons I chose Campy is because I owned a few models and all of them were better than other brands in the same pricepoint. I think the cup and cone bearing hubs are a lot smoother and faster than the cartridge sealed bearings so I was happy to see Campagnolo use them on their Shamal Carbon wheels. I don't like bladed spokes which is another reason I got these wheels. Bladed spokes catch a lot more of that crosswind that throws you around and loss of control. The features of the Drive wheels will catch a lot of buyers especially the weight but I'm not so concerned about weight and I feel weight wennie's obsessions with weight is why we have so many unsafe products on the market these days. I hope those wheels are safe long term, the manufacturer did seem to put some quality workmanship into them. Thanks for showing them to us.

I am concerned about the wheel height. I have used Dura Ace WH9100 C35s and 20 mph cross winds would dramatically shove me (I am 6' 1" and weigh 160 lbs). The lowest profile is 40 mm for the Drive. I understand that the Drive are much wider the the Dura Ace and minimize the vertical profile. Will the Drive wheels be driven just as much as the Dura Ace C35s?
@stevenleffanue
@stevenleffanue 3 ай бұрын
Understandable. We had quite a few riders here who had same concerns. They got the deeper wheels, and months later they not even thinking about it as they subconsciously adapted to how the wheels feel in crosswinds. Extreme crosswinds will affect you no matter what wheels are used , most of the time it's no problem.

hello again, well I finally got around to assembling my Cinelli Superstar frameset, with Campagnolo Chorus 12speed group set, I also bought a pair of those Elite 50V rim brake wheels that you did a video about. I have adjusted the der. many times but can't get the sweet spot, either I can't get it into the large sprocket or it touches the spokes very lightly. I am really tempted to get these wheels, but a couple of things are holding me back. It seems that from the reviews I have seen so far there are some issues; Hub issue from trace velo which had been fixed and got sent a new hub, bearing issue in the front hub for oz in the first batch and spoke tension in the front wheel being too low and inconsistent for peak torque as I read in the comments. The latter might be hard to test for a consumer, but it seems like the product being reviewed is not a finished product per say, but a product still in development. Would I get the improved wheelset where all the issues are taken care of, or should I wait untill a new version is released? It might be me being cynical, but I would think it would be harder to get a replacement part if you are not an influencer or the like. Also thanks for the excellent in debth review, would the wrinkeling inside the carbon rim affect the structural properties in any way or displace the weight distribution of the wheels? Did these wheels have less or more abnormalities inside the rim compared to other brands?

I know that might be because of the humid or water when i kept in the bag, but still wondering what do you have to say about this problem and any suggestion on how to prevent it later on and how to get rid of the rust on the chain surface? Hi Oz. Love your videos. When reviewing these wheels you've covered just about everything but unless I'm mistaken, you don't give an opinion on the freehub pick-up / drive engagement lag. The Elite Drive wheels use a 4 pawl hub with a 36 tooth drive ring and thus have 10 degree angle of engagement. My current wheels have 6 pawls and a 102 teeth drive ring which gives a very rapid 3.5 degree AOE which I love. What's the drive pick-up like with the Elite's out in the real world on the road ? Would I notice the difference between 3.5 and 10 degree AOEs ? One other aspect I don't think you've covered is what are the Elite Drive 50s like in crosswinds ? I've a different set of 50mm section wheels which are badly affected by crosswinds.

Hi , how is the wheelset so far. We have a AD selling these wheelsets . I m looking for racing wheelset. How is momentum of the wheelset ? stiffness sure is hard.
@stevenleffanue
@stevenleffanue 2 жыл бұрын
They are going great. There is less momentum because they are so light compared to heavier wheels but they fly up slight to medium grade hills. I highly recommend them for racing.

Hi there, I was watching all your other videos about waxing chains etc but I have a question I didn't see you cover there: What should we do for out cogs/cassettes to stop them oxidizing/rusting straight away? I cleaned my chain, rear cassette and front cogs with a vinegar soak to remove rust, and rinsed with water to wash it off. It worked very well except almost instantly after drying, the front and rear cogs have orange rust/oxidization all over them. I'm guess normally the recommendation would be to lube them up straight away before it has a chance to set in, but I'm wanting to try your wax method so I don't imagine waxing all the cogs etc. is the answer? Thank you!
@stevenleffanue
@stevenleffanue 2 жыл бұрын
Cassette sprockets should be anodised. If they rust that quickly they must be a cheap type and in that case you can try spraying them with silicone
@mrbrakelol
@mrbrakelol 2 жыл бұрын
@@stevenleffanue Thanks for the reply. Yes it's off an entry level Trek hybrid 7 speed bike. The cassette/freewheel is a shimano MF-TZ31). I will try and spray it with some silicone after cleaning to stop the rust coming back, hopefully this wont impact the wax negatively. Can I also ask where you get your wipperman connex chains and links from in Australia? I'm in Brisbane and I can't find many anywhere, and when I do the price varies a lot. Thanks again!

Almost the same , the hypers maybe a little stiffer because of the 65mm rim depth. Both use carbon spokes.

you know just after I left that comment on your you tube page I look at the instruction manual that came with the brakes to see if there was any info about that. All I found was they say there is a very small screw on the caliper for adjusting imbalance of the brake pads. Well I gave it a try and voila it works, calipers opened up by 1.5 mm. Thanks for the info any how. @stevenleffanue

Good point at 17:10. I don't understand the allure of carbon spokes. Questionable reliability compared to steel, and any benefits they provide are so marginal as to be meaningless to 99.9% of cyclists. Are the freehub pawls steel? I've seen non-steel pawls fail as their end tips wear and round off. Good steel pawls last essentially forever.
