...to all the moaners , who complain about 'miming' etc....someone has mentioned below about the musician's union thingy ....AND this Wogan show was a LIVE broadcast , 3 times a week , so to help prevent any LIVE cockup ...special arrangements are made for shows like this. I was at a ''LIVE to Japan by satellite'' broadcast in June 1989 , when someone messed up the playback of a taped performance , meaning that the band were stood waiting for the intro for around 5 seconds ...then it suddenly came through, but cut short - meaning that Paul and the band missed the opening of the harmonies on 'My Brave Face'. I bet 'someone' on the sound-desk got a severe telling off by Paul after the broadcast was over...

It's very interesting that he is using an almost exact raspy style of vocals he used in the mid 70s. He pretty much stopped singing like that in 1980 and onward. It's really cool he sung like that on this great song Figure of Eight. I honestly think this is his best song that he wrote in the 80s

The 89 90 era of rasp was due more to age than effect like it was during his excellent vocal period of the mid 70s...don't take my word ...listen to maybe I'm amazed off of wings over America...then play maybe I'm amazed off of tripping the live fantastic and you get a solid illustration of this . He is my favorite musician of all time so I am very familiar with his work. That awesome 70s rasp was last heard on tug of war..the song "the pound is sinking is the last time his vocals were truly comparable to his 70s zenith
@michaelfrazia45694 жыл бұрын
A final note...listening to this in 2020 is much different than listening in 1989..due to the current state of his vocals this sounds smooth and powerful...albeit not as strong as his 70s stuff....when i was listening in 89 I was disappointed in the deterioration of his vocals

@@michaelfrazia4569 I have to wonder if Paul not touring much (at all) in the 80’s till 1989 weakened his scream. I saw him in 2002, and his scream on “Maybe I’m Amazed” was better than what he did for Tripping the Live Fantastic. His voice had a resurgence during that 2001-2007 period when he was out on the road more.

This is all lip synched, which makes it even weirder that the backing track of Figure Of Eight isn't even the record. It's some pre-recorded live off the floor version where Paul's voice is especially raspy which may mean that it was done as a last minute thing. I wonder what the deal with that show is. And of course he wanted to play and not talk to the host. Good hell, if that wasn't obvious to everyone. Let the goddamned band play after introducing them, Sue.

@@crosmas Yeah, this is from the Put it There movie. I think Paul recognized that this is the best version of the song and right before his voice sadly started to go. He was able to use that style of singing he used with Wings in the 70s. He couldn't do it anymore in 1989 and onwards. His voice finally started to give out his 89-90 world tour.
