I'm on the completely other side and I absolutely adore this album & band. I love how they've brought the violin more to the forefront as a main instrument. With an album called "The Black" you kind of know what you're going to be getting, it's dark, it's going to be full of melancholy. I love it 🤣 Seeing them live this past weekend made me appreciate and fall more in love with them as a band and as people. They showed me so much warmth & kindness, an experience I won't forget. Absolutely can't wait to see them again. I'd definitely recommend going to see them on their EU tour this autumn. I can understand why it may not be someone's thing though, sometimes we don't want or even connect to the 'heaviness' (emotional wise) throughout an entire album. I totally respect your opinion and music is so very subjective of course we aren't going to like every single thing we check out.

Thanks for sharing your perspective on this Tauri! Totally fair enough. I will be seeing them when they play London this year actually so it will be very interesting to see if live I feel a different way about it after the live context 👀

I honestly like this album, The first song i heard from them was The Black, and the main reason why i like this band so much is because i play the violin and hearing a metal band with violin in their music, just makes me happy and i can't wait to go back and listen to more of their music.

Apparently im into sadboi music as many of the songs on here I consider to be masterpieces. But you are right, there is something off about the album as a whole. I have not really listened to this all the way through like I usually would with albums, but love individual tracks

Yeah I do wonder if I’d heard each song one by one, one week at a time perhaps I would have a very different experience of it. I think as an overall experience it just was a little bit too much for me somehow.

I think the album is great. But i appreciate your honesty, reacting to stuff doesn‘t mean you have to like it and if reaction channels say everything from everyone is the best song they ever heard makes it kind if worthless as a feedback or review (for me at least). Cheers!

I entirely agree. It’s so hard to be honest sometimes, I want to contribute positivity as much as possibly but it has to come from a true place. Otherwise, as you say, the whole endeavour is pointless. I shall stay the course. Glad you enjoyed the album though! I wish I did 😅

“Maybe I need to get therapy and find out what the fuck that’s about” 🤣 Fair criticisms. I absolutely loved this record. It’s so gloomy and I really enjoyed the continuous motifs throughout. This felt like a very cohesive record to me for those reasons. As much as I like fun upbeat poppy stuff, I also like stuff that veers really grim and moody as well. I have Bruno Mars and Darko on the same playlist lol. But tonally, I don’t fault anyone if this is too much of that one particular theme. Shame this one just didn’t resonate with you. Maybe a live show will make you want to revisit it with a different perspective. I’m going to see them tonight and I can’t wait. Absolutely ready to scream my brains out.

I adore this band and this album, they are doing something special with how they integrate the violin into metal music (Continuum and The Black are 11/10 songs imo, masterpieces), between Imminence and Knocked Loose for AOTY for me so far.

I absolutely loved this album from start to finish. It is emotionally tied to me forever though because it came out the same day I found out my mother was diagnosed with colorectal cancer. We live in different states (US) and I was stuck at work all day, so looping this album really helped me process and expell some of my anguish that day. She's still fighting it and I still can't listen to Continuum without getting a little misty-eyed, but Imminence will always have a special place in my heart for "being there" for me on that difficult day. ♥️

As a person who's favourite band it's Imminence, i don't think you ruined the album for anyone and i can clearly see the things that tend to repeat throughout the album. I believe it all comes down to how you connect and feel the songs, not to breaking down every song literally and thinking into every detail of it. For me, it's a journey, i'm guided by everything they write, i connect with it on another level, it's like it flows through my blood vessels. As other said here, most of the time music it's subjective and in the end it comes down to how you connect with it. Great and genuine reaction as always, keep up the vids!
@SteveOGRockАй бұрын
This is a wonderful take, and I think you're entirely correct. There are bands that I adore which have repeating and predictable patterns (hell I listened to pop-punk most of my teens). It can absolutely come down to what happens to connect with an individual and what doesn't. All visceral responses are valid.

This is a excellent metalcore album, the utilization of violin proves that they know the instrument so well. They don’t over do it and DONT DEPEND ON IT FOR AESTHETICS! The use it so well that it does nothing but add to the already polished tracks. Listen and learn all deathcore band (I’m looking at you Lorna Shore). The full experience of 1h+ doesn’t feel drawn out or forced. The album flows amazingly well. I like to disagree that they write bangers, since I haven’t returned to a single track but rather the full album experience

I'm more of a fan of their previous album even though it had similar issues for me (I couldn't sit there and listen to the whole album in one sitting). In my opinion, they're kind of falling into the trap of becoming too predictable and as you eluded to, a lot of this album feels very samey to me. It's not a bad album by any means but it generally sounds the same throughout which does start becoming a chore to listen to by the end. The songs individually are actually really good and have great moments, but as a whole listening experience, I'm good on that.

There's a bit of a running theme with Imminence that I've noticed. They write stellar singles, but the rest of the album tends to be filler. In my personal opinion, that's how the last few of their albums have been.

Hot take I really was unmoved by this album felt a little off. Wasn’t bad by any means just wasn’t breakthrough but sometimes all you want to listen to is just a little bit of the basics not everything is borderline into a new dimension and everything is also not the same as the last. That being said my favorite by them still stands as paralyzed

It's a great 'background' album to have on whilst you're doing other things. It's not really a 'skt down and listen to' piece of music to me. One thing that did strike me is that after hearing the violin motif throughout the album, I did wonder if someone had watched the movie 'Arrival' a few too many times.

I absolutely adore sadish melancholic metal songs, I don't like ballads and slow and quiet songs at all, my emotions are more intense and melancholic metal songs are MY type of "sadness", it's loud, it's despair, it's overwhelming, not .... Quiet soft breaking down, so I feel like songs like these speak my emotional language if that makes sense???

so my question is, have you heard some of the songs on this album before? Cause there were several times I caught your head bob on unusual time change or even random drum cadences that didn't make sense on how you knew they were coming. It made it look like you've heard the songs before. If so, why make a video hyper criticizing it if you've already heard it? An example is @27:28 when you match your head bobs with the drum hits perfectly without hearing the first one as an indication of how the drums were going to be hit. Weird. You getta dislike from me man. That is too coincidental for me.
@SteveOGRock2 ай бұрын
Howdy! Thanks for the attention to detail you’ve paid here. Genuinely first time listen, I see absolutely zero point in pretending to react to something I’ve heard before. If I did, I wouldn’t be doing that for bands like Imminence but rather would be doing like ‘first time listening to Enter Sandman by Metallica’ or some nonsense as the only reason to do so is for views surely. But I’m not doing this for views, I’m doing this for me. What an awful existence it would be to create videos that are just fakery and lies. The part you’re pointing out: as a drummer I usually key in to repeating patterns. This album is fuuulll of predictably repeating patterns (which is a big part of why I didn’t really like it), so the exact head nod on the beat is because at 27:24 the drummer first plays that rhythmic pattern in a more subtle way with just kick + cymbal… so I then assumed he was going to revisit that pattern immediately again when the phrasing looped around. I was right 🤷🏻♂️ There are plenty of times in reactions that I guess things and get it wrong though. Hope that helps explain things for ye 💙

this one was forgettable for me, which is surprising from these guys. most tracks are a very nondescript, samey sort of depressive metal. still love continuum's unique chorus though
