You will rarely hear a song by The Warning that doesn't involve multiple time signatures. What I find so cool about that is their songs are maxed around 4 minutes long and they typically work a couple three shifts in time signatures.

That is indeed a PRS in Dany's hands and Ale has a custom Spector 5 string that is the model for a Signature Series bass that Spector will offer in her name, and with The Warning's logo on it. She's 16. Not bad, huh? Even at these young ages (2 are still teens), they have many accolades and accomplishments, like a song on Metallica's Blacklist album, a viral (23 million views) cover of 'Enter Sandman' when they were 14, 12, and 9 years old, and a concept album.

You summed it up about 45 seconds in with three words, “They can play!” At 16, 19 and 21 these sisters can all sing lead and are phenomenal song writers due to their classical training on piano from a very early age. Superb reaction/breakdown Steve! The Villarreal sisters are amazing songwriters and performers. Each one of their original songs is great. Their second album, "Queen of the Murder Scene", is a concept album. It follows a girl's journey into unrequited love; from infatuation and obsession on into stalking and murder, then madness and... It is a masterpiece. It was nominated for Best Rock Album at the 2019 Independent Music Awards. Their 1st full-length LP, "XXI Century Blood", is also very good and is packed with many great songs. The video for the title track, "XXI Century Blood", was nominated for and won many awards. Their very 1st released recordings are from their 6 song EP, "Escape the Mind"; and it is amazing. Despite being courted by numerous offers from many major record labels, The Warning have stayed independent through the years; relying on crowd funding to finance their projects. They refused to give up creative control over their material ... down to even the clothes they wear on stage. After 7 months of negotiations, The Warning signed a 5 album recording contract with Lava/Republic Records/Universal Music Group last fall. They decided to release 1/2 of their completed 3rd album in a 6 song EP called MAYDAY. The Warning do not come from a family of musicians, however, their parents are huge fans of classic rock. Both parents are professionals (civil engineer and dentist) and they enrolled their daughters into a private Catholic English speaking school Liceo de Monterrey, Mexico. They also started the girls with classical piano lessons at ages 6, 4 and 5 years old. Regular family functions included gathering around the TV with popcorn and watching LIVE concert dvds of legendary bands like Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Queen and AC/DC. When their parents got them the video game Rock Band at ages 8, 6 and 3, they went nuts playing it obsessively. A year or so later, they got "real" instruments with lessons from professional teachers: and the rest is history. Amazing they are 21, 19 and 16 years old and have already written and arranged #44 original songs all by themselves! The oldest, Dany (Daniela) plays guitar, keyboards, lead vocals on 75% of their songs, backing harmonies. Pau (Paulina) plays drums, keyboards, lead vocals on 25% of their songs, backing harmonies. Ale` (Alejandra) plays bass, keyboards, backing harmonies. The drummer Pau begins writing around 75% of their songs. In her songs, she starts with a concept, then works on chord progressions and basic song structure on piano while adding lyrics. She then brings it before her sisters and together they transpose each individual instrument's part; making changes along the way. They also complete the lyrics together; since Pau may only bring one verse and a chorus. All 3 must unanimously approve of each instrument's part and each vocal harmony before it becomes a completed song. Nothing is set in stone until it makes it through the gauntlet. Pau has said if not for her sisters, her songs would be different. Both Dany and Ale` write equally great songs; just not as many. I was fortunate enough to get to meet them after their show January 16th, 2020 at The Whisky a Go-Go in Hollywood, California. The Warning are from Monterrey Mexico, the members are the Villarreal Sisters. Daniela (Dany) 21 Guitar, Piano, Lead and Back up vocals. Paulina (Pau pronounced Pow) 19 Drums, Piano, Lead and Back up Vocals. Alejandra (Ale pronounced Ah Le) 16 Bass, Piano, Back up Vocals, but she will sing Lead on some songs. They have been playing as a Rock Band since 2013, They started playing covers of their Favorite songs in 2014 they posted a video to KZbin of them playing a cover of Metallica's "Enter Sandman" and that video went viral to date that video has over 22 million views, they recorded an EP in 2015, they recorded their first Album in 2017 and recorded their second album in 2018, all as an Independent Rock Band, in the summer of 2020 they were signed by Lava/Republic Records in September of 2020 they traveled to New Jersey to record their Third Album with Producer David Bendeth and on October 8, 2021 they released half the Album an EP called "Mayday" which this Song "Evolve" is part of. This Year Metallica is Celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Black Album and Metallica asked 53 Artists to record covers of the 12 songs on the Black Album, and got all those covers and put them in a 7 LP of 4 CD set called The Blacklist, and one of 53 artists is The Warning, they recorded a cover of Enter Sandman with Canadian Pop Singer Alessia Cara.

Great reaction, yea they are great musicians, I personally love their live performances best they remain tight and active. Evolve is one songs from their latest EP Mayday. Dany the singer is lower on this but she can sing very high as well. Disciple is their newest music video from this EP and its really great, Also they along with Alessia Cara were invited to remake a song to go on Metallica's Black list album, they chose Enter Sandman. I know everyone everyone and their mother have covered that song, but you may be very surprised on how they did it. And it is amazing. Thanks Steve for the reaction.

Thanks Steve for reacting to The Warning. I'm glad that you liked them and as always you have great insights from a musicians point of view. As for Dany's voice, I agree that this song doesn't really show case her vocals. I think you can pick just about any other song that she sings (Pau the drummer sings lead on a few songs) and you would get a better idea of her voice. I will say that her vocals have improved greatly in the past couple of years. It's one area what she has really been focusing on. Both "Choke" and "Martiro" from the new EP better show off her voice. Pau's drum kit is an interesting setup. She has 2 floor toms that she uses a lot and particularly interesting is that she has a closed set of hats over one of them where the ride normally is. It leaves her left foot free for either the double bass peddle or the foot switch that she uses to trigger tracks from her computer.

@@SteveOGRock Well... just getting the exposure. They "started" a long time ago. 2012-2013 is when they started. I'm just tossing this out there because I don't want anyone to think The Warning are an overnight success. They have paid their dues to get where they are.

To further clarify, they have been known to recording companies for a long time, and had received multiple contract offers, but all came with stipulations that they'd change their music, stage presentation, and such, which they were not willing to do. Thanks to their Kickstarter and later Patreon support, they were able to progress as independents before finally hooking up with Lava. Even then, the negotiations took 7 months, because they wanted to retain full artistic control among other items. So yes, they've definitely paid their dues, and they have not come out of nowhere. There's an anecdote that one exasperated record executive asked them whether they'd rather play for 12 or 12000 people; they replied that they'd rather do the music they like, dressed as they like for 12 people than do something that they didn't like for 12000. They've played to bigger audiences than that at festivals in Latin America, in any event.

Very tight indeed. When playing live, all three of them have a clicktrack in their earpieces so that every song is exactly how it should be. And I don’t mean that in a negative way, because playing live to a click has its own challenges. And sometimes the clicktrack fails but they can easily play without it.

@@Brinta3 Pau did a masterclass at Soundcheck Xpo 2022 in Mexico City. The topic was music composition. She described how The Warning write and perform their songs. I would highly recommend you find that on their KZbin channel if your interested. I believe it’s available with or without English subtitles. You’ll actually hear the click track they now use in studio and live. It’s pretty cool.

Love reactors that talk about the music and give an honest review and cool analysis. My laptop died so I can't post my usual "mini" bio of The Warning I leave for new reactors of The Warning. So I'll give you a brief one. The Warning are three sisters from Monterrey Mexico. They are, Alejandra (Ale pronounced Alleh), the bassist, 16. Paulina (Pau = Pow), the drummer co-lead vocal, 19. And Daniela (Dany), lead vocal, lead and rhythm guitar, 21. All three are gifted pianists, that's their musical foundation. They started as a band in 2012, went viral with their cover of Metallica's Enter Sandman in 2014. The Ellen Show invited them to play live on the show where they were then given tuition money to attend Berklee College of Music in Boston. While in Boston the girls were given a tour of Harmonix Studios, the creators of the video game Rock Band. It was Rock Band that influenced the sisters to want to learn other instruments than piano. While there they were shown a preview of Rock Band IV and were surprised to find that their song Escape the Mind was an included track in the game. They had another song included as a DLC later on called Survive from their first full album XXI Century Blood. From their they were invited to play at large rock festivals in Mexico with legendary rock bands like Tesla, Alice Cooper, Motley Crue etc. They opened for the Killers and Def Leppard. Riding on those successes they wrote and recorded their second independent album Queen of the Murder Scene releases in late 2018. They promoted that album extensively throughout Mexico and South America, playing at large festivals and a tour of Argentina. In December of 2019 they began writing their third album that they planned on recording independently in early 2020 and have a 23 city tour that went through Mexico, the US and Canada. They broke records when they launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund the tour and record. The COVID 19 pandemic shut down those plans. But secretly after a gig at the Mercury Lounge in NYC in Dec 2019, Jason Flom, founder of Lava Records (Republic/UMG) started a seven month negotiation with the band to sign them to his label. In August of 2020 The Warning announced they had signed to the label and would be heading to New Jersey in September to start recording their first album under a label with legendary producer/engineer David Bendeth. Spending three months in New Jersey recording they finished in December. They then went home to Monterrey for Christmas but returned to New Jersey in January to edit and mix the album. In May of 2021 The Warning began releasing their first new music in nearly 3 years with the song and video Choke. In July they released Evolve and Martirio in September. Martirio is their second song to be written and sang in Spanish. Also in September they released their reimagining of Enter Sandman with Canadian pop star Alessia Cara for Metallica's Blacklist album. Finally after announcing their first concert dates they released 6 of the 12 songs they recorded as an EP in October called Mayday leaving 6more songs to be released prior to an anticipated tour in. 2022. There you go a brief bio of the greatest rock band of the 21st Century. Check out any song from their KZbin channel and you will not be disappointed

If you want to get a great sense of how tight, powerful and energetic they are live and Dany's voice (without the layers of metallic pop production in this mix) try their most recent live-in-studio recording of Choke, the first single from the current EP. Dany shows off power and range, but her voice still has the raspy warmth, which I find to be a very distinctive and desirable lead vocal sound.

Dany has much stronger vocal performances than this; this song emphasizes the instrumentals. You may want to listen to Choke (which has a problem with getting blocked) or Martirio (in Spanish) to get a better idea of her vocal abilities. Another one you might enjoy is Disciple, where Dany trades off vocals with Pau (the drummer -- yes, she sings leads too, although Dany sings most). Gill already recommended their version of Enter Sandman, with Alessia Cara. Since everyone has heard Enter Sandman to death, a lot of people have no interest in reviewing yet another cover. But this one really is different -- it's a complete reimagination of this song while still paying homage to the original. Salty Showers' discography is excellent. You'll note a lot of informal and behind the scenes videos. They do that frequently. They maintain a very close connection with their fans through their Patreon community and other ways. You've surely noted that The Warning Army is an enthusiastic bunch. Loyalty (and superb music) begets loyalty.

Fantastic reaction and analysis Steve! Always love hearing a musician's opinion on The Warning, and your breakdown was particularly thoughtful and informative. I understand where you're coming from in your comments about Daniela's voice, but I think you might find it to be more impressive when you hear other songs that better amplify her dynamic range. Yes, it's probably not what you would call a distinctly unique, knock-your-socks-off, other worldly kind of voice, but for the majority of this song she's singing in a much lower register. However, she can do so much more. I'd be intrigued to hear your thoughts after you hear her sing in other offerings like their latest single, Disciple -- plus you will get to hear a bit of a call and answer verse exchange with her sister Pau, the drummer, who could sing lead if she wasn't the drummer -- or Martirio, one of their two songs sung in their native tongue, a hauntingly beautiful power rock ballad. And speaking of haunting ballads, I think you ought check out their latest "cover" of Metallica's Enter Sandman, which they have re-imagined into a very evocative, atmospheric rock lullaby that also packs quite the punch as it builds and builds to a fascinating crescendo. Never heard Dany's voice described as husky, LOL. When you have a free moment you should listen to a live studio version of this song, done when they were on vacation in Spain. Great reaction. Ok, if you prefer more raw, natural talent and straight forward classic hard rock/metal, and teenage angst, I strongly recommend their earlier works first. You'll find real gems off of their first album XXI Century Blood album, and definitely work off of their Queen of the Murder Scene album, ESPECIALLY from their live shows. Nothing is technically perfect, but it's all full of classic energy, stage presence, audiance interaction, and just great concert parties!! Check out Copper Bullets, Dust to Dust, Queen of the Muder Scene title track, Survive, Unmednable, Exterminated, Sinister Smiles, P.S.Y.C.H.O.T.I.C., Narcisista, and other great tracks. But, if you prefer more technical perfection, trained vocals, melodic metal, more general audience radio rock (but still very good), check out more of their latest songs off of their latest EP Mayday, which Evolve is a single from. Evolve and Martirio are my favorites off of Mayday. Z, and Animosity are good angsty metal numbers, with Choke and Disciple, in my opinion, will probably be more general audience appealing. Of course, I think all of The Warning is great, and deserves lots of attention.

Hi Steve, nice reactions and impressed that you actually reply to comments. Evolve was a great performance from all 3 sisters but in my opinion it showcased their song writing ability and their talents as musicians. Dany's vocals were not showcased as the song did not need to stretch Dany's range, which is really incredible. Dany and Pau both have great vocals and you can see on your discovery that in some songs they will even share vocals and their harmonies are also great. May I suggest a song Dust to Dust with Pau taking lead vocals, Survive, where both sisters take lead vocals. 🤘

These girls can definitely F’in get it! At just 16, 19, and 21, they will be taking over the rock world! They are one of the opening bands for Metallica on the final day at the Rockville festival in a couple weeks, were one of the bands Metallica asked to cover their songs for the Blacklist album, and they are getting airplay on SiriusXM Octane channel and Fox Sports live programming so you will be hearing plenty more of them! They have their own sound and a variety of song types but are definitely hard rock. Check out Choke or Martirio to change your opinion of Dany’s (the lead singer) vocal chops. If you like this type of rock then check out Disciple and Z from the same EP Mayday. Maybe you should check them doing Dust to Dust at Whiskey a Go Go. The drummer is the lead singer in that one. And the strange voice that comes in halfway through, it’s their manager who’s been roped in for a part in this rock opera the song is from.

The only thing you didnt mention was the siren that came in during the bridge into the final verse. 7/8 time signature change. Straight up vocals, Daniela doesn't embellish her voice like a pop singer.

Learn the history of these young ladies, the bass player is 16, the drummer is 19 and the guitarist is 21, they started out 7 years ago with a Metallica cover of Enter Sandman that went viral on you tube, and landed them on the Ellen DeGeneres show and she had someone who donated 10 grand for each sister to spend a semester at the School of Rock, where they outshined everyone they were in class with. They started writing their own songs soon after and now have 3 albums of original music plus one of covers. All of this is available on you tube. I highly suggest you watch all of what is available, there is many live performances as well opening for bands like Scorpions, Def Leppard etc. ALL IN 7 YEARS, when they started Alexandra the bass player wasnt even as tall as her bass was long!! Watch all their videos chronologically you will be AMAZED and you will truly appreciate the greatness that is this band. When they were still all teens they were writing songs of fantastic maturity and sophistication, songs the few if any teenagers could ever compare with. They just recently did a collaboration with Alyssa Cara on the song that got them started 7 years ago, Mettalicas Enter Sandman, bringing them full circle. This was done on request FROM Mettalica and is one of 5 bands who chose this song to cover and are all on the Mettalica Album "Blacklist" . The Warning did a version that is not just a band trying to play a Mettalica song well, but they did it in a completely new way, a refreshing original rendition that made the song theirs while still respecting the band that wrote it. It's the best version on the album. This also is Available on You Tube and I urge you to go ahead and listen to it first, then go to their original cover of 7 years ago and watch their videos chronologically from that point. After this you will be a true convert, a member of the Warning Army. And will be more then just a fan, you will see them in almost a scared way, the best power trio to exist for over 30 years!! You need to research these amazing sisters Dude. Metallica invited them to do their own rendition of “Enter Sandman” for their just released “Blacklist 30-yr album” comprised of 53 artists including Miley Cyrus, Elton John, to name a few. They did a cover of same when they were Bass 9, drums 12, and guitar 14 that went viral and now has over 23-million views. (Need to view this first to see how they have evolved in 7-years)! They are now 16, 19, and 21 years old respectively and they just released their 3rd album “Mayday” of which “Evolve” is one of six great songs! You have been warned!

Martirio or Animosity would be a good candidate for showcasing Dany's voice better. Evolve is kinda straightforward in terms of the vocals. That, or some of the Queen of the Murder Scene songs where she changes intensity during the song (like Crimson Queen, The One, Stalker, etc)
