24:00 Just a correction: Godzilla GMK was not fueled by the angry spirits of deceased Japanese soldiers, but rather the angry and vengeful spirits from victims killed by the Japanese imperial army during ww2. So really the spirits would be from areas like China, the Philippines, Korea ect... This was commentary on how the Japanese government had not taken any accountability for Japans massacres and war crimes, and instead had chosen to deny or ignore anything to do with it. Instead the government wants to forget about its actions during ww2 and sweep it under the rug. Thats why Godzilla had such a hatred and lust for revenge against Japan in this movie.

Shin is what actually got me into Godzilla. You feel a sadness for him knowing he’s in constant pain and is quite literally screaming in pain. It’s a horrible life but knowing what he *BECOMES* which is literally omnipotent I just can’t stress enough how cool this Godzilla is, regardless of some minor design flaws but I think that’s on purpose. He’s not supposed to be like… Comfortable. He’s a constantly evolving pain stricken being that is just trying to die, survive, or both. I think he’s supposed to look stiff and disproportionate because he’s constantly changing and he’s still in his infancy. Sorry for the rant I just love Shin. ❤ You’re obviously welcome to your own opinions.

@TimeyWimey.2 ай бұрын
Id say that the movie would have worked better if it was about Destroyah rather than Godzilla, since the multiple forms thing is his shtick and there haven't been enough movies with him (and none with him as the sole kaiju). As a huge Evangelion and Godzilla fan i can't help but adore the Shin design, not only because it looks intimidating and goes back to the roots as it name states, but also because of the tragedy surrounding its painful and aggressive evolution. Shin Goji looks like so much more than a giant monster; it looks like an otherworldly threat: a Lovecraftian-like entity that the main characters struggle to understand, and, according to Hideaki Anno, that was the path its evolution would eventually take.
@TheRavenArchon19 сағат бұрын
Mentioned this in another comment, but looking like an eldritch horror is actually why I dislike the Shin design. I think it works perfectly for the movie, and was very well designed for what they were going for (and to be clear, I did enjoy the movie), but I also just personally find it intolerably ugly, and I much prefer Goji to have a more iconic, animalistic design. Early Heisei being my preferred design. I also love Minus One's look, which is basically a cross between Heisei and GMK, but also given a lot of the details of Shin - like the scaring and the patchy coloring on its broken and burnt skin

The really sad thing about Tora-Goji is that there WAS an honest-to-God traditional Godzilla designed and modeled, along with a completely different script that had him facing a fire-bird sort of monster (I think the opponent’s name was Griffon, but don’t quote me on that), but it all got scrapped once Roland Emmerich replaced the original choice for director. Emmerich has openly stated that he knew nothing about Godzilla and had no intention of doing any sort of research to at least get some basics down, and thought the whole concept was stupid which is why he went with a disaster movie approach, on top of that being his specialty. But like most things, the original ‘98 concept made its way to the internet, and he looks FANTASTIC. He’s greenish instead of black or charcoal colored, but he looks like a very cool spin on the Heisei model, upright but with less folds and wrinkles in his skin (especially on the legs) and a mouth that looks like it took a hint of inspiration from the American alligator. Emmerich not only disrespected the hell out of Big G with GINO, but denied us one of the coolest looks ever designed for him.

As someone who became engrossed into Godzilla movies early on, the 98 Zilla Godzilla holds a special place in my heart. It was the first Godzilla movie I'd ever seen, and I immediately loved what it was. I loved the look, the sounds, the speed, the music, all of it was a spectacle...which is probably why it fell flat, in the end (with the jets and all). It wasn't trying to give a message through the character like '54 Gojira, or the later Shin Gojira and Minus One Gojira...it's a spectacle monster, like those of the Showa Era, nothing to see here but good times, laughs, and/or action! That was it's flaw; too much about the spectacle, not enough about the seriousness of the situation the movie presented (i.e. a new mutant creature that is practically unstoppable, and is multiplying like wildfire). I definitely think his portrayal in that movie was absolutely weak, and yet: I loved how much more natural of an approach Tri-Star was going with Godzilla in that one; more of a survivor/scavenger, rather than a nuclear blast needing a doomsday sci-fi device that isn't real to kill the monster. I can appreciate the realism of jet fighters taking down a big dinosaur, versus a mad scientist making an even WORSE doomsday weapon than a nuclear bomb to kill something made from nuclear bombs. This Godzilla was fast as heck, cunning, and was the first time we were seeing a Godzilla burrow deep underground and navigate _under_ a city, rather than just totally level it. In a major sense, going the Iguana route was really fascinating to me, esp. as an adult now. Do I hate Zilla? Far from it, he's the reason I love Godzilla today. That said though: I think it's certainly lacking in a lot of core-Godzilla aspects (being way too horizontal, as you stated, not having an atomic breath, and being extremely weak to weapons). Did Toho's monsters look better in the end, absolutely. I think Zilla deserved a C Tier, at least. And with the animated Zilla, a B honestly (because they actually made him use atomic breath, instead of hot sauce indigestion gas from the 98 Zilla film). I think they were awesome to look at at the time they were made (esp in certain scenes with the lighting, because the CGI was stellar for the 90s), and I have a lot of respect for what they were trying to do with the vision of the film being less about a bi-product of nuclear force in the form of an unstoppable monster, and more of a terrifying creature that is trying to live, because it's the only one of its kind (which also made the idea of the baby Zillas terrifying, because a world full of them would be a nightmare!). But I do agree, Zilla is not the best, by a landslide...I do think though Zilla deserved more than bottom of the tier-list. The massive reason we all dislike the film though isn't because of Godzilla himself, I think...it's the human characters...they're all kinda sucky...and that's too bad. But hey, that's just this fan's opinion. Great vid, overall. Cheers.

In regards to atomic colors, Legendary Godzilla and Shin fall under the higher spectrum of radiation levels. With purple then pink being on top with a pink level equivalent to first responders radiation levels at Chernobyl. Radiation level colors go from: Green > Blue > Purple > Magenta/Pink

The Bio Goji design is also the toy that's used on Monster Island Buddies, which represents Godzilla on that show on KZbin.

6:15 here’s a fun fact about the king goji suit this suit was reused in Godzilla vs mothra (1964) right when Godzilla got silked by mothra larva

king goji suit was also used in an un-released Godzilla 1983 short film called Godzilla vs. The Wolfman

I’m fucking weird cuz all three Legendary Gojis would’ve gone into G tier. I’m sorry, but they’re too fucking cool to just put in a mid tier. ESPECIALLY King of the Monsters Goji who in my personal opinion is the single greatest look for this character. Did everything right with only 1 small downside that was slightly fixed: the dorsal plates were a little too small. Otherwise, literally perfect.

It’s funny that as much as Legendary tristar zilla get hate, all Godzilla design afterwards went from flesh fins to dorsal spines/plates after the film.
@TheGunpowder135 күн бұрын
Zilla is an amazing design IF you consider him as his own kaju, separate for Godzilla. Having him be big yet slim gives him the uncanny fast movement that is terrifying for something so big. The comics and show did him justice but as him being the Godzilla? Nah he can’t make a good design better by changing THAT much.

Umm Steve? Be aware you’re using fan made animations for the ani-goji segment. None of it appears in the film trilogy and it’s all done by 華音 or @Canon_MMD. If your aware because of how much Godzilla earth does (which is not much at all) then that’s fine for better shots, but I see no credit for them to their channel.. Link for those who are curious. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aGnUlmmYiZ2aedEsi=ds1KiWvN771_Jcl3 Good video, just so I’m clear, just giving a heads up.

Shin Godzilla's tail is that large so he can reproduce. At the end of the film, we can see humanoid creatures who were in the middle of crawling out of his tail when got frozen.

I'm a Hanna-Barbera Godzilla defender. Yes the design was simplified, this was made for the American Saturday-morning cartoon audience. The voice was done by the same actor who played Lurch on the Adam's Family (you rang?). For some reason if offends me much less than the 1998 Godzilla.

Shin and Minus One are my favorite Godzilla designs ever, and favorite Godzilla movies. Shin...do I even need to explain why? The pure horror of Godzilla's forms is just breathtaking. And Minus One...they somehow made Godzilla look threatening at all angles, which to me, I find almost impossible to do

My favorite Godzilla design does not exist, so my second favorite would be a HARD stalemate between Bio-Goji and KOTM Godzilla while my least favorite remains Zilla (Reason, being a kid in the states I was almost in perpetual argument with my fellow Americans about it) O! By the way, I know his appearance was nothing more than a cameo role, but you forgot *Snow Godzilla*
