Aloha Steve, glad you decided to turn this into a teachable lesson. While some saw shops gatekeep….to get one into a new saw. Saw shops should seek to understand the customer. “Bad news is, its gonna cost $350 in parts not including labor, and its going to take this many hours at this rate.” first, are you mechanically inclined, do you enjoy projects, and do you want to learn!? Well, here are some videos and this is a After Market kit… you’ll learn a lot in the process. If you build it right and bring it back for a carb adjustment, for the usual rate; ill not only do the adjustment, if you like I’ll show you how that way we can be a resource for you in the future. Awesome thanks Steve. Cool i made the same socket tool to rebuild a 1978 ts185 2-smoke engine. It was either for the wet clutch basket, or the drive gear behind it, cant remember. Was my first split the case full rebuilt.

Most folk drink OR mechanic. Keeps the brew cold. I didn't expect disheartening drama with the beer on the table being unattended so very long. I did a top end rebuild on a Husqvarna 350 for about the same price a few years ago (five years according to Amazon). I would do it again if I needed to, it has worked fine for seasonal (a couple of cords of firewood each year, a few downed trees and limbs) use. Not difficult, in my memory, but your video would be a great resource if I do it again. I do have a carb rebuild on my calendar for next month though. Thanks Steve!

Steve, Great, Great video your making!!!!! This will show people what’s involved in a total rebuild of Bottom and Top End of a saw. I’m glad you chose an aftermarket kit…some are good some not so good. If you know you can get a kit that will preform and last! A lot of good kits out there.

My son-in-law burned up his MS 170, compression of about 40. It's a cheap chainsaw but I'm going to give it a try anyhow. Kind of like you I plan on getting a cheap kit and if it works fine and if it doesn't it will be a learning experience. Definitely enjoying this video series.

That saw might still last for quite a while when properly used with good qualiy oil at the proper mix ratio it calls for. And i would not bother using that TruFuel or any other of those premixed canned fuel brands. I prefer to mix my own fuel so i know what I'm working with.

You can see why dealers usually say its beyond economic repair with the amount of work it takes to strip a chainsaw! Aftermarket parts? I had a Honda mower in for a new piston and rings and crank seals, £250 for OEM parts, £35 for Aftermarket, and it runs fine 😊 at that price it doesn't matter that much if it only lasts a couple of seasons.

You will probably find your old case splitter soon after the new comes in. 🤣😂🤣😂🤣 That's the way it goes for me. I couldn't find the battery pack for a Black & Decker drill, so I went to Lowe's to buy one. The battery was like $2 less than the complete drill kit, so I bought another drill kit. Got home and found the battery pack 😆 so I returned the new kit. I guess the new cylinder head is oversized for the new oversized piston. Didn't see you check that. Looking forward to Part 3.

you can after removing the crankcase bolts toss that in the oven at 400 for about 10 minutes(make sure the wife doesnt have a roast in there!!!) ant it will come apart. same for going back together. the aluminum expands more than the steel. biggest thing going back together is to be sure the bearings are fully seated.

The bigger piston will make it 84.5 cc. So you will have to call it a 384.5... I did a 72cc kit on a 66cc saw, and the bigger piston was actually lighter. Made a very strong 272.

I’ve had good luck buying cheap aftermarket carburetors on eBay. They even include your filters, spark plug and fuel lines.

I got a free 1970s Kawasaki 250 for free because the engine was seized. I replaced a piston and some rings and honed the cylinder and it started right up. If I'd known what I was doing I could have only replaced the rings because I damaged the piston by jamming it into the rod when I freed it up and removed it. I think the new piston cost me $25 bucks in the mid 80s. The whole thing was maybe $30 including the gas for the trip to go get the parts.

My saws I buy them used and I average around 10 years with them I only bout two saws new 1 husky3 years later gave it away the other is a Remington 5 years later still running really prefer stihl over any of them

You got yourself a Farmertec rebuild kit. Cheap? Yes SIR! Junk? you better believe it! Some issues include but are not limited to: Crankshaft failure: twisting, rod failure. Cylinder problems: poor casting quality causing the ports to be mislocated, by eye, it all looks good until you assemble the saw, and you are lucky enough to notice the piston ring and alignment pin on the lower ring are visible at BDC through the intake port, the squish band is too tight or way too big.

If the connecting rod bearing destroyed itself, won't there be damage to the crankshafts rod journal? If so, you'll need either a regrind\polish and new, larger bearings or a new\used crankshaft.

If you are fixing for the customer than yes it's not worth the oem parts and labour's. He got the saw given to him, so he bought scamazon parts to see if they hold up and give great content for his channel. Every one wanted to see a rebuild series.

Brutha man... recently I was cutting wood with my ms250. It was working great.. used all weekend .. 1 thing gas line between tank and carb was leaking at gas tank .. soooo I decided to go to my local stihl dealer, bought new gas line . Went home installed.. Didn't touched anything on the carburetor just pull out .. put back in now this piece of @#^•°¡ 🌰🌰 won't start at all now... Why ???????

Nice video Steve, don’t use the piston clips that came with the aftermarket kit, just reuse the old ones. The spring tension of the OEM ones are way better and the ears on aftermarket ones commonly break off and destroy the engine.

Good thing with the aftermarket head kits is you can learn to port and polish the inlet and exhaust ports. Also is you don't want to pay husqvarna prices but don't trust cheap aftermarket parts but want oem parts at a lot cheaper price look for zenoah engines. As every basic small engine 2stroke engine is based on the zenoah engine

I've had several barrel piston kits that were oversized. I always measure the height of the piston.

Check that gaetor/rubber connecting from the carb too the piston, if there's a hole in it or its not connected correctly it could cause the damage to the piston, that you found.

To remove the clutch Husqvarna have all rype of special tools. And 385., 390., 395 can interchange the cylinder kit.

When I was working on small engines. I would ask? What brand? If they? Told me one of those! I would tell! No! I had been on them before! Pain! Go get. You . Another. If you want! The time and $. Was just to Much !!! For Me. I had a full shop. Take Care! I still get calls? I don't do it. Anymore! I got more of my on stuff to keep running. Getting the right parts? Is a pain!

48mm would actually be a 365 not 372xp which is 50mm. The 372xpw was 51.4mm.
