Opie is so bitter towards Denny because Denny is hokey but legitimately talented, as far as being a radio stations ideal jock. He’s quick, concise, well spoken, and has his timing down. Opie is the exact opposite of all of those things even though Opie spent more than half his life striving to be exactly like that. Denny is everything little Spudz Buckley dreamed of one day becoming and that’s why everyone can enjoy the silly, hokeyness of Denny, Opie gets legitimately sour and hateful.
