I love that you respectfully addressed the weight issue. She loves riding and whether shes too heavy is not for anyone but her and her horse trainer to determine. Im so happy shes thinking ahead and with hope for her horses. If anyone could help, its Steve and Tanya. Again , I support them because of the important role they selflessly fill in Britain and that fact that they are so funny!

Kudos to Carly for putting herself out there, and for seeking the help she knew was needed. Glad to hear she is turning things around, doing and feeling better. Please, please, please, wear a helmet when on your bike, if an accident should happen, all it takes is one good thump to your head and a brain injury would mean your life would never be the same.

It's crazy how people put a saddle on and get on top of horses who can't even cope with a rope or a stick waving at them. Walk before you can run, people. I wouldn't dare get on a horse that spooked at a simple rope over his back... imagine how dangerous it could be if something blew against the horse, or your jacket slipped against him, or a stirrup broke, or a branch caught in the saddle, or any number of things happened while riding.

Steve, Will is such a beautiful boy - he’s going to mature into a wonderful riding companion for Carly❣️ This episode is especially interesting because Will’s problem is being fearful, which is very different from some of the defiant, dominant horses you’ve worked with in other videos. I felt such sympathy for him - I just melted when he sat down in the ravine.

Heartwarming, I wish all horses were helped how Steve and his team….Tanya, Charlotte, James and Dan support each other which translates to caring about the horses, donkeys, mules and dogs …😅 while also giving owners/riders skills and confidence but also BELIEF when often hope has gone. A very rare and very special natural affinity they share with horses and people while being honest and mindful when the difficult assessments present with difficult suggestions. It warms my heart to see.

You may be able to ride being overweight, but the question is should you? It can be detrimental to the horses long term health issues! You can do a lot of damage to a horses spine!
@FamilySmith
@FamilySmith Жыл бұрын
@@josiemainecoon Average weight and underweight persons can do a lot of damage to a horse's spine (overall health, really) as well, depending on their level of knowledge, how well their horses are cared for, the equipment/tack they use, and how they train/reward, and ostensibly...punish. Bottom line, it's like anything else. The right equipment, training knowledge, care, size to weight ratio, and love for the horse and rider should be considered.

Hi Steve, I used to be slim, and rode a Shire cross Cob, whom I loved!! I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2002, and due to the side-effects of the drugs and my mobility problems, I gained weight, I can no longer ride due to lack of control in my lower legs and my weight. I have had adverse comments made. I have a hidden disability, so Carly I send you my sympathy and love. People, you need to think how your comments affect others, it does not help! Thank you Steve for all that you do😀

I agree with the fact that many, many people have a “hidden disability” and people on the outside looking in think that they have all the information and form a judgement based on just what they see. That is a sad way to view the world and others. I think that judgement gets us nothing really whereas seeking to learn something almost always bears fruit.

As someone who loves to ride smaller horses. My farriers have told me that if your balance is good, you can fudge on the weight limits a little. Carla looks like she has great balance! And as you said she’s just walking. And her boy is going to grow. 😊😊😊
@louisegogel7973
@louisegogel7973 Жыл бұрын
❤❤ I just learned a new perspective from what you said here! And it makes such good sense that balance is key for being able to handle weight. When I carry a child, esp if they are a weight that is at the edge of my capacity, on my back and they start shifting all over the place, it puts a lot of strain on my back. Very interesting! Maybe we human aught to try having a pretend rider on our backs which or who is in good balance and then shifts around so we really know what we feel like to the horses? It would have certainly been helpful when I was first learning about horses.
@forrestfey
@forrestfey Жыл бұрын
From what I understand there is research done that say that weight of the rider is less of a problem for the horse if the rider is experienced and have good balance. (Also the built of the horse matters. A short back is better.)

I don’t know how anyone can say she is too large to ride. And no one has any business commenting on it anyway. You see horses and donkeys even carrying loads on them, in addition to the person, all the time, all across the world. I think she just lacks a lot of experience and confidence in herself, so she is running into a lot of problems. This should help a lot of novice horse owners. Props to her for allowing it to be shared to help others❤

It looks like the horse was collapsing under the weight of the woman. Perhaps a larger more girthy horse would be more suitable. It's because of concern for the horses welfare that people comment so it's not really that difficult to understand why anyone would be concerned looking at the weight of the woman and the size and build of the horse
@Stardust_Truth_Seeker
@Stardust_Truth_Seeker 9 ай бұрын
Every pound that is added to a horse puts strain on the horse's back. Too much weight can cause rub-sores from the saddle, strained muscles, and pinching of nerves. Permanent damage such as a “sway back” or deteriorated muscle function can even occur over time.

Definitely one of the best vids , i thoroughly enjoyed it from start to end,what a result too!! Carlie was brill and really got her stuff together, her little boy came good too.Carlie is not too big for her boy just to ride out at walk and trot for an short rides to build up his and her muscles,she will loose weight riding often anyway,and will help so much stop those awful dark times, i think she is self aware of her weight just as i am, i am in exactly the same scenario, but speaking as a horse physio as long as she keeps things short and build up to longer hacks over months and doesn't go hunting or three day eventing, yet, i think all will come together.If she has any concerns always speak to the vet of course.Steve as usual you have addressed so many concerns for them both as a team, you and Charlotte are so funny everyone is happy once again, well done.

I love your videos! Regarding the mud and water, sometimes horses have more sense than we do about riding on strange surfaces! What is it with people who want to run around in all kinds of weather on all kinds of mucky, slippery, noisy and rough surfaces? I was out once with my husband, he on my old sensible but opinionated mare, and me on an Amish-trained mare who had been taught to obey whatever was asked without question. Our old mare refused to cross a large puddle on a dirt farm road. I thought she was being ridiculous, so I asked my Amish mare to go first, and she leapt forward into the puddle, which turned out to be a huge deep hole full of murky water which we had to scramble for our lives to get out of, while old sensible mare laughed at us.

Every time I watch a new video I think it's the best so far.......and then you do another and then that's the best. Your integrity and respect shines through every step of the way. It's wonderful!! Are you coming back to Dorset area this year? I loved attending the Portland demo xx

I absolutely LOVE that you did "real world" training with Will!! Not many trainers would do that, IMHO!

I think that is great that you guys are so positive and totally agree with “ If you can’t say anything nice, then don’t say anything at all! My Nan always said that, and it stuck! I think Carla is lovely. The fact she has been through so many struggles and is doing her best for her horse is awesome! And well done to her! for giving up smoking😊 great video guys!!!❤❤❤
