Legendary song, hearing this as a 16 year old blew my mind and still does today, Lindsey and Stevie were a crazy duo

The guitar licks are unmistakably Lindsey's play style.

Check out "Crystal" and "Crying in the Night." Stevie and Lindsey really hit their stride when they joined Fleetwood Mac. Before that they were starving musicians. Stevie took jobs as a waitress and cleaning houses to pay the bills, and Lindsey was at home writing songs in-between playing gigs.

All the guitars are Lindsey. His performance on this song earned him an invitation to Fleetwood Mac.

I've always considered Frozen Love as my favorite song of all time. This was BEFORE Lindsey & Stevie joined Fleetwood Mac. The entire album is great! Thanks for being one of the few reactors to react to Frozen Love!

As others have noted, Fleetwood Mac - specifically Mick Fleetwood - recruited Lindsey to join the band. The engineer of the Buckingham Nicks album, Keith Olsen, played this song for Mick Fleetwood at Sound City Studios in LA. Fleetwood was impressed and wanted to meet the guitar player. Buckingham was in the studio that day recording demos, and was introduced to Fleetwood. When he was asked to join the band, he said he'd join on the condition that his girlfriend be included. Mick has since related that at first he didn't expect the girlfriend to contribute much to the band, but was happily proved very, very wrong.

When Buckingham and Nicks joined Fleetwood Mac, they took their sound, as heard here on their Buckingham Nicks album, and made it Fleetwood Mac's (new) sound.

If you'd like to have a little compare & contrast fun makr a playlist going back & forth, in order, between this LP & "Heroes Are Hard to Find". FM was already well on the path & the swap of Lindsey/Stevie just sealed it.

Buckingham Nicks were a duo before they joined Fleetwood Mac. Funnily enough, originally FM only wanted Linsday, not Stevie. Think of what they would have lost had she not been able to join. Lovely Angela.

Frozen Love - Stevie - lyricist and original melody & Lindsey Buckingham - music composer, acoustic and electric guitars (also main arranger and music director/producer for the album Buckingham Nicks - as he later became for Fleetwood Mac when they joined in 1975) Lindsey and Stevie met in H.S. - 17 yr old Stevie horned in and harmonized to 16 yr old Lindsey singing and playing guitar (California Dreaming). Less than 2 two years later in 1967 he asked her to join his band Fritz. They later became romantic partners. In 1971 they split from the band and became a duo - Buckingham Nicks. Stevie plays rudimentary guitar and piano - just enough to write her songs though In her demos the main melody is usual in her vocal.

I owned this vinyl album back in the day. Unfortunately I lent it to a teacher in college, and he never returned it. It's worth a small fortune now. The songs on this record were very creative.

Yeah, heard that. I never got an LP or CD returned that I leant to anyone. I had a few LPs stolen, which I recovered because I had put my name on the LP label. Also had to recover a few very precious LPs after a relationship ended. It was “I’m just here to get my records back.” I now know: never lend anybody anything without expecting to never see it again.

This is the song that sold Mick Fleetwood on Buckingham's guitar work. Fleetwood was looking for a new studio and Producer Keith Olsen played this song to demonstrate the studio for Mick.

Absolutely love Stevie Nicks and Fleetwood Mac! Her voice is magical and unmistakable. Definitely must listen to " Gypsy, Seven Wonders, Stand Back or any song from them or her solo. Just a fyi one of Lindsey Buckingham underrated but really good solo hit" Go Insane " is another one I think you would love. Thanks for the memories and bless you your awesome ❤

I have had this album for decades and go back to it at least once a year. Could I suggest " _Crystal_ " as another track from this album that will give you a glimpse of the haunting offerings Stevie and Lindsey would eventually bring to Fleetwood Mac's sound?

Steve !!! Thank you thank you !! I've been wanting someone to react to this for years. Only Angela gets it !! Not surprised it you did it girl. (Now you see why Fleetwood searched them out to join the Mac). Woo Hoo.

Thanks Gary, I wanted this song to be a complete and pleasant surprise for our girl Angela. Glad she liked it! This album never got much press but I bought it back when it first appeared at the local record store because, well, I was 13 at the time and there was this beautiful half-naked chick on the album cover. The killer music turned out to be a huge bonus, LOL

While the Buckingham Nicks LP was a major commercial failure on a national basis, it had healthy sales in Birmingham Alabama thanks to airplay by progressive rock station WJLN-FM. It was a huge hit in Tucson (where I am from) due to our late lamented freeform underground FM station, KWFM (which, against the genre norm, was the #1 station in town for much of the 1970s). Even though "Rhiannon" did not appear on the "Buckingham Nicks" LP, it was a staple of their live performances, albeit with substantially different lyrics in places. Fleetwood Mac frequently reverted to the original lyrics in concert.

It’s Lindsey Buckingham, the sole reason Stevie Nicks was in Fleetwood Mac was because of him, he wouldn’t join unless he could bring his then girlfriend, Stevie , into the band. He was lead vocal on songs, Go Your Own Way, The Chain etc Check out more of Lindsey Buckinghams solo work, try Countdown, Trouble or if you want to see his guitar playing at its finest, the live version of I’m So Afraid from the ‘97 The Dance concert with Fleetwood Mac

Lindsey Buckingham is one of the best guitarists of his generation. He most frequently uses fingerpicking (plays the guitar with his thumb and fingers instead of using a pick). For fans of Stevie Nicks (of whom I am one): you may not know that Stevie wrote what was arguably (in my humble opinion) her best song, "Landslide", also in 1973 - while she was with Lindsey and they were struggling to achieve commercial success as... Buckingham Nicks. Because Mick Fleetwood invited Lindsey (and thus Stevie) to join Fleetwood Mac shortly after he heard this song, Stevie's song "Landslide" wound up instead on the self-titled Fleetwood Mac LP released in 1975. I sometimes wonder how things might have been different if Buckingham Nicks had released "Landslide", instead of Fleetwood Mac... just that one incredible, often-covered hit song could've propelled them to fame and fortune. Stevie Nicks said she was in Aspen, Colorado with Lindsey in 1973 when she wrote "Landslide". That's why her lyrics included the memorable lines, “Climbed a mountain and I turned around, and I saw my reflection in the snow covered hills, 'til the landslide brought me down”. The song was about the struggles Nicks was having with her career as an artist and musician, her relationship with Lindsey, and the fact that she was already 27 at the time ("But time makes you bolder, even children get older, and I'm getting older too"). She later said in an interview with the New York Times that "I did already feel old in a lot of ways... "I'd been working as a waitress and a cleaning lady for years. I was tired." "Long Distance Winner" and "Crystal" are two other terrific songs that also appear on this album; both written by Stevie Nicks. I chose to introduce Angela first to "Frozen Love" because of its unique, dreamy sound (something Angela immediately picked up on) and Lindsey's contemplative guitar work. I will never understand why Polydor Records, which released the Buckingham Nicks album, chose to release the singles “Don’t Let Me Down Again” and “Crying in the Night" instead of "Long Distance Winner" or "Crystal". "Frozen Love" would've been too long, at 7 minutes 15 seconds, for the radio back then. Today, it's a perfect introduction to this fine album on KZbin. Before Lindsey left Fleetwood Mac in 1987 (later to reunite), he played both acoustic and electric guitars on all of the songs (and hits) during the time he and Stevie transformed Fleetwood Mac's sound by essentially merging the sound of Buckingham Nicks with the songwriting and singing of Christine McVie (and the original rhythm section of Fleetwood and John McVie). Any fan of the later (post 1974) incarnation of Fleetwood Mac should thus take the time to listen to (and appreciate) this underrated album, which to me showcases for the first time Lindsey's impressive skills as a singer, songwriter, guitarist, and arranger.
