Despite people saying Harry wasn't worthy to sing with her, he did an amazing job. He wasn't trying to be the amazing Tom Petty. He loves Stevie and looks up to her so much. His cover of The Chain was on his 2018 tour's setlist every night. He exposes so many younger fans to old, great music like Stevie, Fleetwood Mac, and so much more and inspires them to explore 60's, 70's, 80's, and 90's rock they probably wouldn't have been exposed to otherwise, as he did when putting these types of songs on his Beats 1 playlist this week. Fans are listening to what he listens to and discovering legendary music because of him.

Here’s the deal...nobody is ever going to be able to replace Petty- sadly, we lost one of our few original musicians, way too soon. He was a distinctive musician; multi-talented. But with that being said, and this kid simply filling in- (as it’s a sad fact that Tom can no longer)... he did a righteous job of the song with Stevie Nicks. Maybe this will even cause some Harry fans to learn who Stevie Nicks and Fleetwood Mac are! Then a new experience will open up to them to be able to hear some amazing music that otherwise they wouldn’t have ever had the opportunity to know of. There’s no reason for us not to see this as a positive collaboration ❤️✌️

Similarly, I hope a lot of Stevie Nicks fans discover Harry Styles. She recently compared his newest album to Rumours and they’re great friends in real life and play together frequently now. There’s a reason so many legends love him- he’s legitimately great. Harry performing Landslide and Leather & Lace with Stevie at the Troubadour in 2017 right when his solo career was starting and then singing The Chain as part of his tour set list really got his fan base into Fleetwood Mac and Stevie. She is highly revered within the fandom. He had a show in LA in December last year (2019) and they lost their shit when she came on stage. This performance and him giving her induction speech just cemented it and added to their journey.

This is bittersweet for me, I've grown up listening to Fleetwood Mack and Stevie Nicks and I'm 50 now, but it's totally heartening that Harry Styles is so very intent on, well rocking it well.

I love Harry too. Very respectful! What is important here is that Stevie likes him enough to perform with him. All Steve's call. She knows no one can replace the sound of Tom Petty. But Harry is worthy of the attempt. Harry and Miss Stevie--I LOVED IT!

I was born and raised listening to 70's 80's 90's rock. And I'm only 15, it was the only music I listen to. A lot of people on here are saying this song opened up legendary music. But for me, this opened up music that is going on now. After I heard this, I checked out Harry styles and it's opened up a whole world of music for me.

there’s so many people in this comment section congratulating harry on “shedding his boyband image” or “trading in his boyband past blah blah” but i honestly think he’s never changed?? he’s always been harry. of course his style and confidence has developed but these comments are making me realize how wrong the worlds image of one direction is/was
@manateelover34 жыл бұрын
yeah fr hes still the same guy and he always will be and people just perceive 1d to be what makes u beautiful and that’s it when it was actually sm more
@zenaalzoubi89714 жыл бұрын
Well in one direction he truly couldn’t be himself i think everyone’s just happy he can finally do the music he’s wanted to do and start being taken as a serious solo artist in the industry without all the boy band stigma
@Mary-lh9bj4 жыл бұрын
Zena Alzoubi i actually agree. he wasn’t able to 100% be himself in the band. my point is that i don’t think it’s as drastic of a change as people who didn’t follow one direction think. they just didn’t give harry (or the other members) a chance when the band was active. harry is truly thriving and seems to be in his element now, but it’s not a night and day difference from who he was in one direction
@Mary-lh9bj4 жыл бұрын
Zena Alzoubi i guess my point is that the “boyband stigma” should have never existed

Harry Styles is the most genuine celebrity of his generation and his talent will stand the test of time! He’s just getting started with his dual careers and he’s going to become a living legend ... He’s already an iconic performer and he deserves the acclaim he receives! People need to quit underestimating him, just because he was in a boy band! He’s proven he has always been meant for the stage✨

don’t hate to admit it! he’s a super genuine dude with a lot of talent that goes so much further than the boyband persona, and a lot of the songs that he wrote for that boyband are also very good. i love that he brings influences into his music from other eras and mixes it with newer sounds. it takes a lot of talent.

Geez, talk about big shoes to fill. Good for Harry for holding his own. It's hard to let go of the Rock n' Roll greats like Tom Petty and make way for younger performers, but the torch has to be passed, and it's pretty cool to see it happening this way with Stevie Nicks on board.
