In 1984 Stevie won two WC Handy Awards, for instrumentalist AND for Entertainer. The blues is sort of held at arms length by some. The Handy organization has worked to change that. The awards are held in Memphis yearly, and are legit. On the podium while accepting the award, Stevie broke down and wept. He was inconsolable. Finally he gathered himself and apologized. He explained that guitar had been a natural occurrence, but that he was humbled by the recognition of his vocal talent by “people that truly knew”. He was still unknown to the general public, still hoping that his talent and passion would support him- something that eluded 99% of blues men before him. True award, true talent, true story.

There simply has never ...ever... been a better music show then "NIGHT MUSIC" on T.V. Every show...week in and out was a true master class of talent! And there truly was no fiercer or brighter star on a Strat then Stevie Ray. What a jewel of a performance. I worship and cherish every note.

It was Vaughan who became an all-time Blues legend after the very 1st note we heard him play. It was he who was ear-marked and destined to become the "Heir Apparent" to BB King as the new King of the Blues for the younger generation of Blues fans. His loss is a blow the Guitar community and the Blues community has never recovered from.

This video is cool for a number of reasons: Its Stevie Ray Vaughn; Seeing two beat-to-hell pre-CBS Stratocasters being played by two awesome players(Respect and RIP to SRV and Hiriam Bullock); Hearing a group of diehard Jazz/Rock musicians cut loose and go Roadhouse band ala the Blues Brothers; Seeing bass guitarist Tom Barney break a string at the end of 'Crossfire' around 5:41 and not even sweat it; he just nods at SRV as if to say, 'Let's keep the party going'. Mark of a real pro. Great performance all around.

Actually, the string unwrapped at the headstock post when he bent it at the end of the song. It happened to me once, the string was cut a bit too short. I loved it how that Jazz bass stayed in tune.

There are very few artists, in my opinion, that play and sing as good live as they do in the studio. Srv was one of those few who could do it better on stage than in the recording studio.
