What can I say! I live in South Dallas near Oak Cliff and the Hood where SRV grew up and returned after rehab. He lived only 15 minutes away from me in the late 80's. He IS Texas. I love that man and he really brought the electric blues to mainstream! God Bless SRV!

As for the Jimi-Stevie Ray comparison...I heard it said, not long after Stevie was killed, that if Jimi was king, Stevie was the only true heir to the throne. Regardless of where you 'rank' them, they're both head and shoulders above everyone else. Hell, they might have even been aliens they were so great! 😂👽🎸

My main man Mojo and the illustrious Uncle Ted, dropping knowledge and bringing the enthusiasm! SRV is a personal favorite, and like Ted said, a class of his own. He breathed rarified air amongst blues/rock guitarists. Another one you could randomly pick a song from the back catalogue and you couldn't go wrong. His brother Jimmy, no slouch himself as a guitarist, was an occasional collaborator, as well as a member of the Fabulous Thunderbirds. Loved this reaction, and Ted always brings joy with his big laugh! Until next time, gents, stay groovy, and love seeing blues rock get love on here!

Uncle Ted’s description of Stevie Ray as a “Blues Man” was on point. Most people describe him as a guitarist. He was way, way more than that. Uncle Ted’s toothy grin says everything!

Great song, but if you really want to impress him, show him “Tin Pan Alley” featuring Johnny Copeland, for serious Blues, “Voodoo Chile” from Austin, 1989 for action, and “Lenny” and “Little Wing” from El Macombo for slow but so emotional. Thanks for helping to keep his music alive.
@GBeret833 жыл бұрын
Young man, your Uncle is telling you the gospel about Stevie Ray Vaughan. To see Stevie play live was very much akin to a religious experience inside a revival tent on a hot Saturday night! Stevie was the vessel that scripture poured out of, and that allowed his guitar to speak in tongues.

He was the culmination of Texas Blues; having played with BB King, Albert King, Albert Collins, Johnny Copeland, Buddy Guy. Was such a monster, that while on his last, fateful tour with Eric Clapton, Clapton said after watching SRV perform a few of his songs, he had to leave the venue... because it was destroying his confidence. The Wah-wah pedals he used were Hendrix's, his brother having bought them for him, so that his sound would be as authentic as possible when playing Jimi's songs. Albert King being his mentor, to hear SRV is to hear King play; especially if you watch the "In Session" video.

Love this song & concert. Hes running his guitar amp to a fender leslie speaker like you'd use for a hammond organ to give it that swirly sound.

The Official vid of this song played on MTV back in 84/85 and that was my 1st intro to Stevie Ray and I was hooked. Saw him 3 times and planned on a 4th, but then he was killed. Huge loss! FYI: Notice SRV's thumb wrapped around the neck playing the top frets. That's exactly how Jimi played, except lefthanded of course. One of the reasons for that extra tone in there. You're right tho, the two are in leagues of their own. Check out Pride and Joy, Crossfire, and Little Sister too.

Great video..yes Stevie cud play anything & was unlike anyone...very unique, eyes closed an away Stevie goes, transcended to another dimension...I do believe had he lived he would have been as big as Elvis....both could put their talent to anything ( Elvis could sing gospel, rock, country, blues, opera...u name it he hit it note perfect right to the end plus he had his own style, was humble, kind, best seen live....ALL the things Stevie could do...both were loved by all who saw them and left audiences amazed at their surreal talent. I know its a strange comparison but i do see that "once in a lifetime" talent in Stevie that Elvis had, unfortunately SRV was killed 😕 way too early, wud b like Elvis being killed just as he started...we'd NEVER have known the legend he became...just footage of his explosive short lived talent - like Stevie! Just my opinion of course) Why did he get on that damn helicoptor 😖🥺 after all he'd been through...life can be cruel. Both Stevie and Hendrix last solo performance was Voodoo Child...spooky! I see them as 2 sides to the same great coin 😍 (and yes SRV did do an unexpected extra jam session live at his last concert but that was spontaneous & not solo b4 anyone says im wrong about Voodoo Child being S & J's last song both played) 🤘🏼 Poor Albert King couldnt perform the night he heard about "little Stevie"...they loved each other like a dad & son, in the studio session they filmed of them Albert looks like a proud daddy & Stevie hanging onto every wise word of a much loved dad...at one point Albert says "your good..but you're gonna be better an i'll be right there watching"...sadly not to be, i cried when i saw that. A fantastic session - bittersweet 😕

Please keep going on down the Stevie Ray rabbit hole‼️. Uncle Ted knows where it's at but the nephew has a lot of catching up to do. This song is fun but among the least impressive to introduce a first timer to his body of work. That man and his guitar was a solid unit with no separation between them. The intense intimacy of their relationship was astounding to watch and hear. More‼️ more‼️ more please‼️🎶🎶🎶

So cool , different generations,.sitting side by side, and older gen. schooling the younger one, love it,..and yeah Stevie was prolific, like Jimmy, like Jeff Beck, B.B. King, Chuck Berry, Keith Richards, Jimmy Page, they can play like he said anything, you see how JH played star spangled on his guitar,...Look at Walter, Steely Dan, he was always balancing between jazz, rock, even blues,..and lest not forget Robin Trower, ohh God, blues rock, and somethin, somethin, Peter Frampton,....lol Stevie was in great company, great, great company, sorely missed, very much so, so many gone, we must so appreciate, those still with us,..huh and I love your choice,.huh as we sometimes say in the south libations,..lol and I know your a little older than your friend here but don't know if you remember Schlitz beer?,..my elders use to drink it,..huh to my shock and awe year or so back saw they were still making it, when I was grocery shopping, lol I nearly fainted when I saw it,..lol been around a long , long time. Thank ya'll for this very entertaining reaction, stupendous fun,..keep going, always enjoy, Godspeed, Peace ✌
