"To teach something, is to learn it twice" I learned that just tryin to get friends to play in the early 80s. I toldem, just accept a year if soundin like shit, plus it's fun along the way...None of them stuck it out. So disappointed! Teaching makes you see things from another angle, and REMINDS you of the mistakes YOU made as a student. That's also why people should keep journals fir anything they pursue.

I watched SRV at Red Rocks in Denver from about 10 feet away at a live show. He would play power chords and finger pick leads at the same time too. I would put him in the top 3 as well, with 2 people below him.

I'm 62 and a retired public school band teacher...been playing guitar since 1975...and have been an A 440 'slave' for lack of better words. Anyways, my old age, Arthur Itis, and a newfound love of SRV's power blues & endurance during soloing have let me feel "OK' about E-flat. And ya know what? I can practice/play longer and stretch some bends to outrageous distance! So, I put a capo on the other day. OK. Ran some tunes...and now just have to deal with what my dumb brain terms the 'misplaced dot' syndrome. You know what I mean as you're ahead of me in this challenge of having played tunes/licks for years launched from a 'dot' and now I'm in the 'space' zone(!) (Chuckle to self.)

I was a fan in my teen-years when SRV was active. I went to his concert in Melbourne [AUS] (1986), which was just incredible. I was devastated when he died. Thank you Mr Art of Guitar for your videos, where you show great musical ability, humbleness and a commendable commitment to teaching. I applaud you. I was a bit of guitar player once so know enough to appreciate your teaching and the theory. In your view, to what extent was SRV learning from others as well as inventing things himself? There is certainly an SRV style. What impresses me most is that SRV, Hendrix, Clapton etc. didn't have online videos and teachers. Where / how did they learn it all?

I've watched quite a few of your videos now and I truly appreciate the teaching you're offering for free. I feel like this one really stands out (previous favourite was Prince). You nailed so much more of the nuance of Stevie Ray Vaughan's playing that I feel is missing from other people's commentary. I'm not making any promises but this is 100% the best video I've seen of yours to inspire me to follow your program, so I'll be checking it out. And as an experienced, working musician, I mean it. Really amazing work man

U r a great teacher I just caught your interpretations of SRV's tools are really spot on,,,i just wanted to say there was q reason for the LH neck..it makes the high E the B and G the shortest strings giving them yes the least amount of tension and making the biggest bends just a little easier and gives the bottom 3 a tad more tension therefore just a bit more tone and SRV often called the open bottom E when he snapped it to end songstress with thumb and forefinger his fav note....and for trem being LH he just liked it on top mad it more accessible to him,,,just sayin

I say "Bird" when it's a really long shot. A Van Halen live concert (in Japan) set was playing on the radio tonight and Eddie was killing it. Love SRV too though. Lucked out hearing him give a free concert in San Francisco at Pier 37 (if I remember right) in the early 80's. He was up on a pedestal by himself with just the guitar and the hat. First time I ever heard of him and now I wish smartphones had been invented already.

Now I'm a little older and would like to play that sorta stuff more, but it's soooo far out of my comfort zone. It's like relearning the guitar almost. I downloaded an app of Texas Blues licks that I've been practicing, but this'll take a while to even get close to SRV.
