From The Stevie Richards Show Episode 10 - Stevie Richards on Raven's ECW Debut & Creative Mind
Raven has a great mind for the business. There is no doubt about that. It's an opinion shared by many in and out of the wrestling business. But what was it like to work with him, to learn from him and to put trust in his vision for the Stevie Richards character in ECW? In this clip, Stevie will talk about the introduction of the Raven character to ECW after his time spent in WCW and WWE and fighting the instinct to reject the ideas he had for Stevie's character.

I love hearing about how Raven helped with the stories backstage and also that he was the last of the territory guys. And he was a producer/manager at wwf because Vince McMahon wanted him backstage for his creative ideas. It just blows mind how talent on and off the ring soctt levy was. Raven is also a Philly guy too.

Raven has been one of my favorites for a long time. My angsty teen self identified with him when I was a kid and as an adult I have massive respect for his character work. Plus, just listening to the dude talk, he's an absolute genius. I know that he's like a literal genius, but as a wrestling mind he's so fucking brilliant.

Great video. One thing that you got wrong is that Cornette didn't not get so much as he thought that it wouldn't work with the Memphis crowd and that they wouldn't get it. Remembering that video, I think that Cornette said that he thought that Scott/Raven was very talented and had a great mind. He just didn't expect that audience to take to it. Raven was my favorite wrestler for a long time. I hated watching him lose the US title to Goldberg back in WCW.

I'm kinda surprised we've never seen anything with Stevie and Raven off camera. Raven did a few things with Sandman and a thing with Dreamer, but I've never seen Stevie and Raven do anything together off camera.

Off camera? You mean like, you want to see them together in real life, and you're surprised you haven't? What do you want to see them do together off camera, get lunch together? It would either have to be a huge coincidence, or you'd have to stalk them. Please don't stalk these men. Just enjoy them on camera.

How mental that you can take something as brutal and simple as a DDT, and make it completely your own. He crafted that body language that may as well be leading up to him taking your head off with a pruning saw. The chair spot was just magical too. If he had gone a bit more 'seething' and a bit less 'what about me', the sitting in the corner gimmick would have been unstoppable.

@Mere_Puffery
@Mere_Puffery 2 ай бұрын
Who the hell can’t understand him? Those captions are SO distracting. And so completely unnecessary. If captions *have* to be used they need to be in ‘normal’ text (like this) and at the bottom of the screen- like regular captions. But they’re not necessary because James speaks English!!!!

Raven should have been the Cerebral Assassin in WWF/E !!!! Imagine him doing the mind game stuff with Rock , Austin , Taker etc... instead of a 1 dimensional hardcore wrestler . Even if they didn't take it as far as my opening comment , there was still TONS more Raven could have done in that company in that vein instead of hitting and getting hit with trash cans .

Not sure if Stevie reads this, but I had a question about something that I discovered in looking back at Raven's promos from ECW and something Cornette pointed out in reviewing the McMahon documentary that I wondered if he had the answer to. Raven cut a promo on Sandman that referenced wishing that he had killed his dad, but that he died before he had the chance in 1999. Vince gave a Playboy interview in 2001 where he was quoted about his abusive stepfather as saying, ""It's unfortunate that he died before I could kill him." Was that something that Scott had heard from Vince that he decided to use or was it just a really weird coincidence (or, more oddly, did Vince steal the line from Raven for some reason)? If Scott used some of Vince for Raven, it could be one of the reasons why Vince didn't use Raven properly instead of Vince not "getting" Raven.
