Phenomenal performance by Stevie Wonder backed by the the Mitchell Ayers Orchestra. One of Wonder's most moving songs ever.

Like few others Stevie Wonder carries the note straight to your core, to the marrow of the bone, and he leaves it near the source.

I just love this version. His clavient is so funky. The song is tinged with sadness and is also uplifting. It's really simple. It reminds me of 'You got what you wanted' from Ike and and Tina. Another brilliant song.

He is the best. I love his immediate attention to detail when the crowd started to applause a 2nd time and he thanked them without skipping a beat. Not as easy as it sounds when playing an instrument and singing.

Don't forget Stevie was still only 19 in 1969 and might only have been 18 if the performance was made prior to his birthday in May. Can anybody tell me which artist nowadays has anywhere near the same talent as him at age 18 or 19? Thought not...................

the best one is the one where he is standing. it's also on KZbin. much more powerful. he really throws his whole body into it. wild pleading notes near the end. it has the original melody. this version we watched here, as stevie usually tends to do, he improvised some new notes at the beginning.

On this day in 1969 {March 8th} Stevie Wonder performed "I Don't Know Why" on the syndicated TV program 'The Hollywood Palace'... One month earlier on February 15th it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; eventually it peaked at #39 and spent 7 weeks on the Top 100... It reached #16 on Billboard's Hot R&B Singles chart... Six years later in 1975 the Rolling Stones covered it; their version peaked at #42 on the Top 100... Mr. Wonder will celebrated his 63rd birthday in two months on May 13th
